You know what's funny? The most recent purchases of mine are for games I actually already own. I can hold a copy of Burnout Paradise, Red Faction Geurilla, Saints Row 2, Oblivion and Morrowind in my hands. But all of them barring Morrwind are on my now dead 360 and I miss playing them. I've actually completed SR2, Red faaction and Oblivion too! I shudder to think what'll happen when Dead Space and Mirror's Edge pop up at an awesome price.
Personally I've started being frugal during sales as well, if only because of my backlog. It usually works out well enough when I remind myself that I've got games I've bought and have not even installed yet.
But sometimes when you see there's that game, and it's on sale at that price, and tomorrow it won't be at that price...
I restrict myself to only "Game of the Year" titles, and only those which I have written down. Also, by not actually having much free money.
I was actually blown away by the first game so when the second came and everyone was raving about the visuals, I was like "Deja Vu man, seen it before". Obviously it had been improved a ton, but the whole seeing the entire world thing wasn't as big a surprise/shock as it could have been.
exploding a crane whilst actually on it in a sports car? Yeah, t hat was a huge shock.
$7.50USD for Burnout Paradise, that's a fucking meal right there. I just don't have to eat either breakfast, lunch or dinner and it's mine.
But no. Oh no, Steam's not going to get me. My backlog's too big, right? Tell me guys, is my backlog too big? But it has always been too big anyway. Oh god, oh no.
Is there a way to purchase something if I'm outside of the country in which my billing address is located? Can I use proxy servers or something? I want in on this Burnout deal.

Has anyone actually stopped at a store to pick up a sandwich or something and then thought "For that price I could get [game] off of Steam."?
I think it's telling that I have. Possibly more than once.
Well you are in every game thread I read/post in subedii. I'm sure you're posting in a lot more too. I'm thinking you may be in the minority here. A minority surviving on ramen surrounded by a great mountain of real and virtual games

Yeah I've had far too much spare time lately, and I've been spending way too much of it here. The irony is that I'd prefer to spend what time I do get to myself actually playing games instead of talking about them, yet hear I am.
Think it's time for a little gaming and forum hiatus now that E3 is over. Would at least do my wallet some good.
Holy crap, LOTRO is THIRTY THOUSAND SQUARE MILES? That math doesn't sound right.
I mean LOTRO is freaking huge, but... man.
Are they including the parts of the map that aren't open yet, or just the currently playable areas? Because basically the game doesn't even have, like, Rohan in it yet.
Anyway, as far as racing games I've played are concerned. Burnout Paradise feels tiny. Fuel feels gigantomundous (that "word" is appropriate here).
But, Burnout Paradise >>>> Fuel.
That's based on quality though because personally I just can't get into Burnout Paradise. Which is a crying shame, because previously the series had been my second favorite arcade racer.
Counter-Strike: Source is the mac game for next week
Mac Release Status Update
We're taking a break for E3 this week. Enjoy the new Portal 2 trailer and get ready for Counter-Strike: Source to come to the Mac next week.
Mac owners just now beginning to play a game that requires a significant amount of practice to be anywhere near proficient, coupled with an extremely immature and xenophobic playerbase?

This will end well.
The TF2 playerbase is basically identical. The mac users got into that well enough, as far as I know.

Now now, I'm sure new to the game Mac owners will be treated with respect and digna ... HAHAHA ... I almost said it with a straight face.
Seriously though, it is one of the hardest games I can think of for a new person to get into. The only way to learn it is to be shot in the face over and over until you learn every hiding spot/ place where people naturally congregate on every map and where to point your gun so it will be exactly at the level of that person's head in that area. And that's only to get to the point where you're not killed immediately every round. It'll take a lot more to actually be good at the game.

But they've had Starcraft for years now.
Oh, you meant CounterStrike, my bads. Maybe we should set up a server and host some totally chill CS games, because lord knows I'm just as good as an ultranoob in that game anyway.

For the first weekend, if you logged into TF2 from a mac, you got these stylish iPod headphones in game. From what I heard, some people refused to heal anyone wearing these headphones. Plus, the obvious name-calling.
I'm guessing any people playing mac CS will have played it before on PC or bootcamp and now can play it without the hassle.

Yeah, I actually played it the other night (before the announcement, how weeeeiiiird) and while I was never good to begin with I've gotten rusty. Very rusty. I died quite a lot, though it was still pretty fun. I love nothing more than rushing with dualies.

Actually some servers had it set to automatically check and BAN you if you had them.

Yeah I know, I got into counterstrike when it was already well established. It was about at the time condition zero came out (though I was playing 1.6). I was huge into it for years after that. It was my main game. I finally started to get sick of it and was only playing sporadically. Then fighting games came out with good online play. I haven't touched it for a good while now. I don't think I'm going back.
Oh also the trick to enjoying the game is to find a good community. I ended up going toward the few servers that don't allow cussing. That's really a silly rule, but when enforced it drastically cut down on the number of stupid assholes that are in a normal pub server. I mean DRASTICALLY. So I stuck with those.
Wait, there are Counterstrike servers that don't allow cussing? That's like a church that doesn't allow prayer.
Very rare. They were generally run by people more in their late 20's early 30's who were sick of the generally idiocy that permeated the game. I can't point you toward any because the ones I was on are long gone.
Oh ... and then there were the rare odd "christian servers." Those just ended up being really creepy though. I didn't touch those.

The Christian ones are really weird. I joined one where I said "darn" and got a five minute lecture from some random woman about how I was going to hell since I was obviously a "fag" in direct violation of Leviticus 4:13 or something. She literally got out a bible and started reading it to me.

It's a weakness many of us have. However, you can blame steam for exploiting the weakness and hitting our wallets for massive damage!
I just love that engine.
You can fly up really high and see the entire game world.

Stealing a jet and just flying from one end of the map to the other took forever.

Oh, thank god. I alt-tabbed to close just to find this out. I thought F1 and F2 were alternate pages and not a cycle setting.
What a shitty menu.
Just Cause 2 is amazing. Every open world game from now on needs to do whatever they did to make everything work so well.
Holy shit
