Oh God, I jumped on the Burnout deal. I couldn't resist!
Yeah, It took 2 hours to download the demo, and another of uninstalling and reinstalling to get it to actually have sound, but I was convinced to buy it in like 3 minutes of actually playing.
Can you tell me the install path? It sounds like the demo actually has all the same files, so if I could copy it to where steam wants it, it should just verify them and not download another 3gigs, right?
The demo IS the full version of BP - so assuming that Steam gives you the serial key (right click on the name in the games list) you can just enter that into the demo and not have to move anything!

Install path of the game on Steam? That would be "\Steam\steamapps\common\burnout(tm) paradise the ultimate box".

My only complaint about Burnout so far is that I made the mistake of looking at the legendary cars listing, assuming it was part of the ultimate box. The DLC costs $8 for 4 cars, so I suggest not looking at what those cars are.
I didn't buy it because that's more than I paid for the game, but now I'm a little sad.

Yeah, when I saw "ultimate _____" I assumed it was the package with all the dlc. Not so. In fact, there is no such package.
I think it'd be nice if there was a matchmaking system that prefers to match you with members of groups that you are in. Of course with options for what groups you want to play with.
Then instead of connecting to the PA server, you pick the PA group. It could even have an option for tying a dedicated server to a group, which is then automatically used for players in that group. It'd be like the system in L4D, but actually useful.
I think a lot of people don't have any experience with good matchmaking systems and just assume that all of them are bad. In the forum for the CSS beta, I saw someone suggesting matchmaking for 5v5 matches and there were multiple people making it very clear that they hated the idea, without making it clear why. Then again, Counter-Strike players.
Is there a way to purchase something if I'm outside of the country in which my billing address is located? Can I use proxy servers or something? I want in on this Burnout deal.
I am stationed overseas and have a US billing address. While Ihave been over here I have used a proxy for all my purchases with no issues.

Valve's Portal 2 presentation at E3 was packed full of gameplay videos showing off new features and an intriguing story line. While co-op gameplay wasn't shown, Valve developer Erik Johnson did reveal one new bit of info. Valve is planning to allow PS3 players play with PC/Mac players.
When questioned on the cross-compatibility between Steamworks and Steam, specifically playing co-op on a computer with someone on a PS3, he said it was "something the team is gunning for." We also confirmed with Valve developer Mike Dunkle who said "The plan is you will be able to play between console and PC."
What's interesting about this scenario is that it could theoretically be applied to any of Valve's online games, meaning the entire Orange Box and any other games on Steam and consoles.
For Xbox 360 owners, we did inquire whether this was a possibility as well. Johnson commented that there are no current plans to bring Steamworks over to the Xbox 360, as ultimately the ball is in Microsoft's court.
Burnout is installed and I just got back from town with a new wired 360 pad because fuck Microsoft and their shitty hardware. Wireless adaptor my ass, ruddy thing couldn't find it's own USB lead.
I really struggle to see how console Portal could work - I have a pretty tough time get the portals in the right spot at the right time with a mouse.
I'd have thought cross-platform play would be a bit one sided.
I played and beat Portal on the 360, and never had a problem with the controls. I now have it for PC and need to go back and play it on that. I did however had control issues with TF2 and Ep2 (I had already played HL2 and Ep1 on PC) on the 360, just not with Portal.
I tried to get Burnout running last night, and it wouldn't even install. I downloaded the game just fine, but when I clicked "play," and it started installing, after the "Installing Microsoft DirectX (step 1 of 2)" portion, I got an error that the application wasn't signed to run on XP, and the install would abort.
Can't seem to get the 360 wired pad to work. Its the official one for PC. It's detected in oblivion just fine but in Burnout it doesn't show up at all.

edit: We should get some Burnout multi going.
iirc there was a problem with wireless adaptors that could be fixed easily by popping it open.
I saw a couple pages on the issue a few months ago, but I cant find them now.

That is a pretty BIG DEAL.

Shoot. Thanks for the help but I still missed out on the Burnout deal. Oh well, maybe I'll pick up something else.
Dead Space is more than worth 10 bucks you heathens!
I agree but I burned out on it, played it for a week straight waiting for Fallout 3, got all the achievements, got all the ingame unlockables, beat it at least 7 times, once twice in a day. Of course, this is just a testament of how damn good the game is.
Dead Space is more than worth 10 bucks you heathens!
Not to me, at least not now. I played most of the PS3 version before getting a bit bored and selling it, but I'd snag the PC version if it was at the $4.99 price point.

What difficulty did you play it on?
Either Easy or Normal.
I didn't get bored because it was too easy, I got bored because the gameplay didn't seem to change that much other than the "hey, play this '80s arcade game where you shoot down asteroids for five minutes".
I'm not saying it's a bad game, but since I'm on a budget it's not worth $10, and it's disappointing that this sale is merely a return to the same price it was on sale for the last five times it was on sale.

If you didn't play it on hard, you didn't play Dead Space. But more to the point, I've heard the infamous asteroid shooting minigame you seemingly got stuck on is a lot easier on the PC.
But I guess to each his own. Survival Horror games aren't everyone's thing.

Rather than get into a needless pissing match about how inaccurately I think you've read my posts, I'll simply say that yet another "sale" on Dead Space that makes it still more expensive than the retail version doesn't turn my crank.
If EA bothered to actually put it on sale for $4.99, I'd be downloading it right the fuck now. If anyone somehow missed the other fifteen times it's been on sale for $9.99, it's certainly a better bet than Mirror's Edge or Spore.

As you gain license levels, they add more cars to the road.

Mirror's Edge for $4.99 USD
Dead Space for $9.99 USD
Spore for $26.79 USD
Spore Complete Pack for $60.27 USD
Bleh.
Dead Space 50% off for $10
Spore 33% for $27 (that's just for vanilla, no addons)
meh. Might get ME just 'cause it's $5. That's about it.
edit: Dammit, simulposted!

WoW was on the previous image, with the smaller maps. Pretty crazy that it's smaller than all those other games. They fit a lot in, I suppose.
On an unrelated note, if I don't like things jumping out at me, I'll hate Dead Space, yes?
I don't enjoy FEAR, for example.

Mirror's Edge can be completed in one sitting, much like a $5 footlong.
It's very worth it for $5.
