Now the fucking gates of el presidio mission refuses to load no matter what I do. Sweet. Guess that's it. I wish I could get my fucking money back.
I'm amazed how you seem to be the one sour grape in this entire thread, though it sounds like a couple of things have just been completely terrible luck.
What? Sour grape? This is the one post I've made where I'm pissed off. I can't play the game I paid 60 dollars for and I've tried literally every possible fix for two hours now. My other posts were about story complaints and writing issues. I was actually encouraging a discussion about important elements in the game that I found to be poorly done. You'll have to forgive me if I don't fawn all over it like some high schooler. It's a great game, but that much is obvious, what I was addressing was how it could be better. But I guess I must be a sour grape because I'm one of the few who actually makes interesting posts.
Sour grape doesn't make you a terrible person, so stop being a goose, wasn't an insult, simply something I noted. On why your game is doing what it is with that mission, if you have it installed to your HD if its the 360 version then try uninstalling it. Or load a previous save perhaps.
Also how is it that any of you guys are paying the full price for this thing? I keep trying to advertise the gamestop deal, which is still good until this Saturday by the way, that lets you get it for only $20.

Eh? I must have missed them. Sorry about your luck but I think that the troubles you are having is affecting your opinion of the game. Also when you develop a AAA game get back to me. I will be "fawning over the game like a high schooler" until then because this game as a total package can beat most other games of this generation.
Yeah that was funny but if I can't get this fixed I think I'm entirely justified to be pissed. I really want to see it through to the end but I literally can't think of anything to fix this. I uninstalled it from HD, re-installed it, restarted my xbox, loaded a different save, did side-missions before the mission, you name it.
And Jubal if you don't see the validity in having a discussion about how a game is made regardless of it's quality I'm not even going to bother giving any kind of rebuke because that speaks for itself.

I guess it depends on how much you enjoyed the gameplay since it sounds like you might need to start over, maybe. Hardly an expert or anything. That's damn far into Mexico too if I recall right...

It's not exactly a "deal" when you have to trade in two titles that are easily worth more than the $40 you get taken off. That is, unless you have one of the few obscure ones listed that they accept.

The real kicker is this mission worked last night but I got tired and turned off my 360, figured I could do it again tonight. My last recourse will be to leave the 360 off and unplugged from the wall socket, try loading the oldest save tomorrow and if that doesn't work then that's it.
Fucking hell and I thought I was being a little harsh by calling him a sour grape.
Is there things that bothered me in the game? Yes there was. I am not going to delude myself and say the changes that I would make would in turn make the game better. IMO there is nothing in this world closer and more endearing than family. What better motivation would a character need than to save the ones closest to him. It may be a simplistic driving force but it is the most primal and the one closest to my heart.
I have read several issues around the net that Marston wasnt believable because his wife and/or child were alive and his only driving force was to get them back. That his only driving force was to get his whore turned wife and the spawn of that relationship. To me this makes John a more interesting character. You do not see this in most games and their respective character development. There is no need to complicate matters further, as simple is good if it is done well.
There were times in the game that I thought I should be able to make the morality decision on if Marston could sleep with a whore or choose to develop more of a love interest side story with Bonnie but that would detract from the character they developed for John and in the end I was happy with it. The final moments between John and Abi is as good as you can get in this regard in gaming and cinema.
Other things I thought were a bit overdone was the government agents and their constant "Your bad were good" banter on the final missions and there wasnt enough bonnie. After you save her from being hanged she just disappears until the end of the game. For Bonnie she was such a strong character that I felt she wasnt used enough but in the end, after the encounter between her and abi, I feel it was done well enough.

You can also plug in a USB thumbdrive, load your profile and save data onto it, unplug your HDD and try running the game that way (pretend you own an Arcade 360 for one mission). Though it does sound like if you shut it off in the middle of a mission something might have gotten corrupted. I would suggest refraining from doing that in the future ;-)

Eh most of the stuff on that list looked like crap you'd want to ditch, or games so old you've probably not touched in forever.

Some perhaps, but you'd have to have them in the first place. I'd say very few people here actually found themselves wanting to trade in on that deal... so most people paid full price.

I'm pretty sure Rockstar gets their cut regardless of what kind of deal you might have gotten on it (assuming you didn't buy it from some guy in a trenchcoat hanging out in a backalley).

Every cent
the voice acting (for the most part), the graphics (again...) but the immersion, story, side missions, free roam, the mexican stand offs, hunting everything!
I love this game.
Dutch is dead, and I've been told I can go home to my wife. (I lost most of the song, thanks to a *&%$ing bear attack taking me off my horse)
I've been spoiled about the final ending for all this, but how close am I to it? I'd like to finish the last of the challenges first, so Marston can die a Legend (just the 6 disarms in a single clip to go, any suggestions?), so should I be avoiding the farm for now?

One thing you should really be aware of before you continue:
As soon as you go to the farm and begin the missions there, you will change into a new outfit and be unable to change your clothes until, well, until the endgame you already know about.
Hmm, it appears that Dastardly doesn't work when you drop the woman in front of the stopped train at the station. The train ends up just pushing the body down the track.
So my little problem fixed itself after I racked up a huge bounty for fun and pardon letter'd it then tried to start the mission. Now I'm in the great plains rolling with a high-powered pistol and tons of snake oil just killing everything.
Completed this game yesterday. thought it was fucking fantastic. Haven't felt so strongly about an ending since Snake Eater. For me that's saying a lot.
Endgame Spoilers
I loved the mission when you kill Dutch and the song that plays as you leave. I thought the bonding with the family was fantastic. I thought kicking down the barn door and going out butch cassidy style was just brilliant. Swapping to jack and killing Ross was just the perfect way to end things. Really just overall i have nothing but praise for the whole ending.
I really miss playing as john. He was just a really likeable character. Which is strange, all things considered.
Also, some non spoiler praise. I absolutely love the soundtrack. Haven't stopped listening to compass since completing the game.

I go into Journal, to Stranger or Challenges and it gives me info on what I need to do for a specific mission, but is there any way to scroll that info down? If the text runs off the page I can't read the rest of it, doesn't seem to be any way to move down? What the hell Rockstar?
Hit Y
That is about the least intuitive possible control option for doing that! Thanks.
Really old but, this still doesn't work. I forgot you can click Y to read info on challenges so fair enough, but for Stranger missions there is no way I can see to scroll the text down.
Anyway, I just got to West Elizabeth. The music here is dead eerie and bears are coming out the fucking walls man, I can't get 5 feet without being multiple-beared. Luckily they are pretty slow and dumb so a buffalo rifle shot between the eyes is pretty easy.
Did the last part of I Know You during a massive thunderstorm, that was pretty cool.
Some thoughts on Mexico
Loved the ambient music, it has been my favourite place for music so far. Really enjoyed the missions as well, especially the various assaults on forts and the sneaky mission. I wish there were more opportunities in missions to use stealth + throwing knives.
Found the end a bit of a letdown though. After 25 hours or whatever hunting Bill Williamson I kind of expected a showdown. Not "Oh there he is. And now he's dead without a fight." But whatever.
Reyes is a massive douche.
Apparently I'm almost 70% of the way through. How long is the storyline for West Elizabeth compared to Mexico and New Austin? I dunno how much of the 30% I've got left is story and how much is other stuff. I'm a bit sad that it might all be ending soon.
The guy is sitting on some TNT. The sadist in my makes me want to shoot it, but I don't want to if it'll screw me over later.
edit: Heh, just bought a paper. Love what it says about the race I won, and the allegations against me.
Hah, I remember that event.
I don't remember if it was a hideout quest or just a random event, but yeah it was escorting the guy through the mine, right. And yeah, he sits down on the stack of TNT at the end. For me, I was thinking how that was a very bad idea as I was walking away. And like on cue, as soon as I turn the bend, I hear this Kaboom behind me.
I honestly don't know if that was scripted to happen, or pure dumb luck. But god I busted a gut laughing on that.
