I'm looking for a decent quality editing program to chop up some mpeg files, and I'm flat broke. Any suggestions?

Depends on what you want to do, but VirtualDub might do what you want. As far as editing goes you probably wont be able to do too much more than concatenating multiple videos and cutting parts of existing videos out. It's not really intended to be a full video editor though, it's really more for pre and post processing. If you're looking for a more full featured editor, this is the most promising result Google came up with for me.

EDIT: If you use Linux, i would look into Kino as well.

Might want to try windows Movie maker, it's nothing too fancy, but it gets the job done and is easy to figuire out. Not quite for incredibly professional movies/editing and it does have a bit of a learning curve but it isn't too bad.

Windows Movie Maker is hands down the best video editing program for the consumer.

Easy to use, reliably exports your files, and now can even burn your project into DVD.

More than that, it's all bells and whistles.

If you're just cutting MPEGs, www.womble.com or www.videoredo.com are your friends.

Well, if you're using Mac, doesnt it have iMovie?

But if you're using Linux or whatever, then I don't know.
