It's like they've broken the game of tennis. It just makes you think, "why the hell did they invent a game which can conceivably never end?"

I'm actually glad this is happening, and with an American to boot.

In the US tennis has been on the decline since Sampras retired, mainly because no one other than Roddick does well (and Roddick isn't as consistent for someone like CBS or ESPN to guarantee TV time to). Querry and Isner are the future of the game here, and this helps put more spotlight on the game in the US.

114 games in the 5th set, that is equivalent to 8 7-6 sets, almost two marathon games alone.

    This is insane.

Yeah, people who've never played in this twilight time don't know that it is hard to see/call the ball.

DeBakker is either really pissed or really happy to face either one (they have to play the 2nd round tomorrow, right?)

8.05pm: In the stands, a woman is laughing. She laughs long and hard and her laugh is the sort of ghastly yodel you normally hear in antique horror movies about Victorian insane asylums. "Wa-la-ha-la-wah," she goes. "Wa-la-ha-la-ha-la!" Will nobody drag her out? Call in the goons in white coats. Get this woman to a lobotomy!

Someone's had a wee bit of the consumption, eh?

I was out all day, first time in a long while I don't watch tennis, and this shit happens.
    My fucking luck;o(
Edit: Also, every fucker who wants to introduce a tie break because of this can die in a fire(I'm looking at you, McEnroe). It's a superb freak result. It will be equally superb when it happens again, in 70 years time.

So in other day 3 wrap ups:

-Roddick and Federer through in 4 sets each.

-Djokovic beats Dent, which sucks, but Dent set the fastest serve record at Wimbledon at 148 mph

-Hewitt wins easily on a retirement

-Davydenko is out (never good on grass)

-Melanie Oudin, the golden girl from last year's US Open, out in the second round

-Mardy Fish loses in 4 sets

Jesus Christ -- I just realized that if you were to win every point during your service with an ace, you could take four straight sets to a tie-break with nothing but aces and you would STILL have two fewer aces per match than John Isner's currently tallied.

That's the most ridiculous kind of shit.

I had to leave shortly before they suspended play. I was petty convinced it was going to go to a third day (which, of all the insane thoughts this match inspires, might be the most mind-boggling to me).

The BBC has gone a little overboard on queen coverage. This has become a royal function rather than a tournament.

    To the tennis!

Why is the Queen there today? Because she knows Murray won't make the final? hi-yoooo

And does Niemenan have to bow to her as well? It's kind of weird seeing players do that, almost like gladiators saluting before they fight, I thought you were better than that Britain.

Pennetta is almost done with Niculescu, so the corpses of Isner & Mahut should be on court soon.

It'd be amazing if Tsonga's match started going the same way. And then, like a shadow passing over Wimbledon, every match started to fall into sync until it was just court after court of continuous, breakless tied-up matches.

    Forever.

I just flicked over from the football and saw what the score was and it sent a chill up my spine.

For a moment I thought Mahut and Isner may have cursed the sport.

8-8 now. If it hits double figures, I'm going back to the football.

it could easily be double figures, but it has rallies, returns of serve, deuces, breakpoints, a match point already etc.
In the Isner match the average rally length is probably 1.8 shots or something similarly stupid.
