The game crashed after I made my char, and when I tried to start the game again it turns out it hadn't saved any install data so now it's completely borked. I'd have to redownload the entire thing. I guess I'll just go back to CO till I'm sick of heroing it. Thanks for the info anyway all.

Did you run the updater thats inside the install folder, or the one you downloaded?

The one inside the install folder. It didn't acknowledge that anything had actually been installed before. Neither did windows. Then it started throwing around completely bogus errors about installation paths in places that don't exist and I just gave up. I don't know. I may try again tomorrow but it's not looking good. The crash ten seconds after the first area loads isn't really a good sign.

Nah, Dark armors biggest issue end wise is its heal. Which costs quite literally a third of your endurance bar every time you use it. That combined with over and point of end per second in toggles from nothing but Death Shroud and Cloak of Fear makes it entirely unsustainable.

Though the Dark Melee version will get better when you get Dark Consumption. The SS version is only going to get much much worse when you get Rage.

My Spines/Dark scrapper had the following Toggles (before he was deleted):
Quills, Dark Embrace, Murky Cloud, Death Shroud, Obsidian Shield, Cloak of Darkness, and Cloak of Fear (7 toggles).
    My other Toggle-heavy characters:
Fire/Fire Tank: Fire Shield, Blazing Aura, Plasma Shield, Tough (4 toggles)
Willpower Tank/Brute: Mind Over Body, Indomitable Will, Rise to the Challenge, Heightened Senses, Tough, Weave. (6 toggles, but with Quick Recovery to offset the cost)

Dark Armor has lots of toggles. To think you could only run one at a time.

I'm always willing to have people tag along with me, especially on my newly rejuvenated Fire/Fire tank. Doublespecially if you're a Kineticist. I'm not as good or practiced as the Leps or Narbus, but I can wade through demons pretty damn fast, especially if someone helps Sands of Mu the bosses.

Because people on the Penny Arcade channel tend to be pretty open to helping out lowbies/letting you tag along and for that I am infinitely grateful. Level 1-20 goes real freakin' fast this way.

Oh no, it's not like I *can't* get them past 16. I could have gotten them past 30 during The Rikti Invasion of '09. But I'm so bummed by the way the powerset works that I look at the "good bye 1/3rd of your end just for a heal!" and get pissed.

On another note, I'm thinking of changing my global from Mr. Vitruvian so people know who the fuck I am. Is there a downside to changing the name? Last I heard it was rather seamless.

Ok decided to give the trial another go. Downloading the US version this time. Hopefully it's less broken. I did get a kick out of the character creation though. It's almost 100% the same as the champions online one. Cryptic really copied that stuff pretty shamelessly.

Well, my suggestion to that problem is to get the Theft of Essence proc. Its an IO recipe that only drops under level 30 and costs like 250 merits. But it makes Dark REgeneration actually return endurance to you. With it slotted you have a 20% chance to get 10 endurance returned for each target your heal hits. At the target cap thats 10 chances.

The downside of this idea, is that the proc is really really expensive. Like, 150+ mill expensive.

Dear lord is that analogy ever appropriate! Both of my characters with Dark Armor are stuck in the Teen Level Hell simply because they can't exist without stamina at this point. They simply take too much endurance to survive.
Granted, one of them is also Dark Melee which is just as endurance heavy, but even my Super Strength/DA brute can't last for longer than a few minutes before she's wiped out.
Maybe with any luck having Stamina naturally will make them playable. Since they've both been stuck in the teens for years, I'm kind of hoping that will be the case.

Um, Dark Melee is one of the most endurance efficient primaries, y'know. The only one that beats it is Claws.

Unless your attack chain is an unslotted Siphon Life -> Siphon Life -> Siphon Life. Then it gets endurance heavy.

Anyhow. Total up the endurance cost on Dark Armour's toggles sometime, you'll find it's not that far off Fiery Aura. If you don't run Death Shroud (and you shouldn't run Death Shroud if you're fighting spawns of less than 3 enemies) it's pretty low cost. The endurance cost is only really prohibitive if:

    A) You have Dark Regen with no endredux slotted, and fire it off every time it recharges.
    B) You run both Death Shroud and Cloak of Fear. (One or the other is usually best, though they're effective together)
    C) You pair it with a high endurance cost primary, like Broadsword.

I must point out that 'high endurance cost primary' is a bit misleading, as powersets are balanced to cost the same endurance for damage output. Broadsword is technically 'heavy' because it overkills by a LOT sometimes. I find it easier to ignore enemies on low health and let Death Shroud finish them off. Very endurance efficient that way. Claws is 'endurance light' because that's the bonus to the set. Dark Melee is endurance light because Shadow Maul's endurance cost does not take the AoE portion of the power into account, and it's easy to catch 2-3 enemies with it and it does a TON of damage, and the fact that it gets Dark Consumption.
    Woo thanks Kay!

I was thinking of making a AoE scrapper, the sets I was thinking about where Spines or something that could go with /fire.

I have that /fire Brute whose 35 but it is a pretty fun set.

I think I'll have to go with Dark Armour though it seems like it will be a good time.

With respect to what you want, and what I was saying, Claws/Dark Armour could be a set for you to try out, or even Claws/Fire. Fiaryn made a Claws/Fire lately, I'd say Claws/Fire would outdamage Claws/DA by a fair amount (Burn and Fiery Embrace wooooo), but once Dark Armour gets Oppressive Gloom, it'll be more survivable.

Claws is a very fun and frantic set with great AoE and Single Target capability, and Follow Up is a really nice constant tohit and damage bonus.

I can get you from 1-20 in an hour. I'm not being funny.

Even when fitness goes inherent I still think this game should start at 20 and go from there. Fuck a 2-power attack chain.

What's a good archetype to start with to get a good feel for the game? I was thinking mastermind with the pet stuff or whatnot, is that ok? Can blasters do any soloing or are they total glass cannons? Other such questions. Pretty much just looking for something that'll let me get some general gauge of the funtimes gameplay during the trial. Getting pretty tempted to go back to CO after all since I had plenty of fun with that, but I want to give this thing a chance first. If it's less like WoW and more actiony it might be better for my personal tastes.

Recommendations are contingent on how much teaming (with pugs, or us in the PA channel) you want to do: some archetypes like defenders really need a team to shine, whereas others like brutes can just smash their way through with ease. Would probably go with masterminds and brutes as the most balanced solo experience at this point though, factoring in the fact you won't have access to veteran attacks.

This is the way to go for new players. You want to be able to both kill stuff pretty well, and be fairly tough. Blasters are lots of fun, but glass cannon is a good description, though they are far less glassy than they once were.

Awww, no one's talked about what we spent all day doing? Okay, well, to start off:
After all the talk of getting my teen characters...out of the teens I decided to join Gear and I think Lep and the rest in a farm level. Shower-Man was in the midst of celebrating getting from 18-25 when we stumbled across the most disturbing character on Virtue in awhile
    screenshot_100921-17-43-14.jpg
"It's just a tiny fairy. they're all like that" you say. But then I say Nay Nay. "She" was role-playing as a seven-year old girl. In AE. In the rikti war zone.
There is no way in hell they're actually seven, which just makes it so damn creepy. Hopefully, someone got a pic of "her" bio, because it really ups the Pedo-Factor to 11.

Anyway, after that, we managed to figure out the best way to Farm Money. Yes, again.
Step 1: Rack up a bunch of AE Tickets/Reward Merits. Doing some farms with any of us is a very easy way to do this.
Step 2: Go to the redeemer of your tickets/merits of choice.
Step 3: Buy as many Level 10-16 Bronze recipe rolls as you can get your greedy little hands on.
Step 4: Drop them all in the market.
Step 5: Take note of the fact that at some point, one of things will be worth a shit ton.
Step 6: Any recipes that *aren't* selling, should just be sold to a vendor.
    Rinse, Repeat.

Logging on to all my character with tickets, I racked up another 100 million inf. And as most of the people here will tell you that's not even the max.l See, the reason why you do level 10-16 is that if you manage to get a really good unique, it can sell for astronomical numbers, just by itself.
I'm sure someone else can show up with the actual facts.

Finally, Tube was looking for some...representation, so of course, Ol' Ronnie was glad to offer his services!
But, while flying to a mission, we stumbled upon something rather cool.
    screenshot_100921-20-30-34.jpg

WAAAAAAAY the fuck off in the distance of Cap Au Diable, is this island. It has no mission entrances, no badge, and no indication that it serves any purpose outside of A Cool Thing. Just a neat thing for the devs to put in.
