My Dark/Dark Defender was made back when Dark/Dark was pretty good. Now it's just kind of depressing.

I have a Storm/Dark Defender, she's pretty decent (for a Defender), but kills veeeerry slowly and thus could do with a damage buff. I think she'd do great damage as a Corruptor, though.

Dark blast is kind of a crappy offensive set, I wouldn't really use it on a defender who needs to pack a punch. It has other strengths of course, but massive damage isn't one of them.
I really like psi because of the multitude of single target blasts and good aoes, but I think something with aim as well would really be key. (Sonic, fire, ice)
If you're keeping freezing rain/enervating field/tar patch/etc up every fight you're really not going to do much more damage as a corruptor, especially if you're solo or in a small group.

Well, the character's level 40. Bit hard to go back on it now!
The idea with my Storm/Dark was to:
a) have a reliable source of immobilise that didn't impede Knockdown effects
b) have two AoE disorient powers to stack in times of need
c) specialise in enemy placement, and being able to keep them there
She does all of these things pretty well, and has a self-heal to top it off. But like I said, she'd be much better as a Corruptor. And, well. I think you're underestimating the power of a ton of DoT cones and Scourge, really. With resistance debuffs, and a (rising) chance of Scourge kicking in, that's pretty neat! Not as hot as Fire or Ice or Sonic, but still pretty neat.
I got in a wierd mood last night. I logged into my Robot/FF MM, the one I considered boring from a few years back. I used a freespec and took a few powers for shits n' giggles (photon grenade, replusion bomb, Elec. fences) and made more intelligent planning for IOs (the toon was made before IOs).
Dropped 200 mil on IOs and sets and took it out for a spin. Wow! Talk about new life. The toon was almost unkillable before, but is almost godlike now. Sits at ~49% ranged DEF, ~35% for everything else. I added some +damage procs to Force Bolt, the Drones, AssBot and Elec Fences, and it definitely upped the damage noticably.
Even with the wonky Pet melee bug, DB is big enough to keep the bots over the defense softcap (~56% with bubbles) while keeping me away in range. (an advantage over Traps, though Traps has other ways to more than make up for it).
I grabbed a team, same type that gave my Necro/Dark fits (+3 purple 8 man) and my pets were nicely durable. Most of the time I didn't shield at all, (bots are at 44% defense on their own without my bubbles); just BigBot and the ProtBots (ProtBots need my extra bubbles, and BigBot to avoid debuffing). I was able to keep busy with my three attacks. Last time I only had the Mace Mastery web immob, so there was less to do (part of my problem i suspect).
Perhaps not as damaging as Robot/Traps or /Dark, but definitely a lot more durable, particularly if pets move out of optimal position.
I have it currently on Freedom, but may move my MM over to Virtue if I can think of a new name I like ("Mechanista", sadly, is taken on Virtue).
Anyone willing to toss out names? Concept: a rogue scientist/engineer who was betrayed and uploaded her personality to one of her robotic creations before "dying". Think "Caprica'.

Actually, are there any sets unique to Defenders now apart from Empathy? They used to have Psionic Blast at least, but even that got 'ported around.

I think Stalkers are plenty fine. They're not the best, but they're far from the worst. I've had more fun on my Stalker than pretty much any character I've made in CoH.
My Defender, though? Pretty much sucked for the past four or five years, whenever they did ED.

Did some testing earlier frankenslotting frost on my fire/ice tanker for range and recharge; it turns out a 15 ft, 90 degree cone can hit a lot of targets. 8 is easy, and I hit the target cap of 10 fairly often. Basically back to the glory days of the burn tanker, except I'm pretty sure things die even faster now rotating through frost, frozen aura, and burn.
Only thing left is to figure out how i'm going to fit build up in, then I should be set.
The one with 4 high damage single target blasts with 100 ft range and two aoes.
Right, if you have a damage booster like kinetics or soul drain to make up for no aim defender psi is the best single target blast set in the game, period.
I was very annoyed that they gimped the blaster version.
I loved the game, it served me well, but the game's new content seems like a rehash. The engine is old, the zones are boxy and small, the combat is slow and cluttered and I'm tired of taking the subway.
I love the base editor and I love the Mission Architect. These are the two biggest triumphs of this game. If the game did more to augment these two features - if it began to explore even more radical content generation, I'd be back in.
Instead, it came up with this. A gimmick really, a means to exploit as much of the existing engine as possible, adding yet another square urban zone in the process. Many of the new missions, not much better (in some cases worse) than the best MArc has to offer.
I understand why many stay loyal to this game, but I can't. Perhaps one reason why I can't, was when I adored the game, I over-indulged. Now, bloated and fat, I can't bring myself to eat another fresh batch of COH cookies.
In an effort to put a greater focus on the City of Heroes franchise, Paragon Studios is shifting resources within the studio. In order to optimize the refocus, there has been a reduction in force that has impacted a small amount of people.

I suspect it was the people who were canned, not the project. Maybe both. But usually when the gobblespeak is that bad they're just looking for a nice way to say 'we changed our mind on something and fired everyone who was working on it'.
