Secret Avengers spends way too much time in space.

Well, it's a lot easier to be secret IN SPACE.

    "Ride or Die?" asked Goku

"Ride or Die" confirmed Dominic Toretto, as they took off to find the Dragon Balls in hopes of reviving their friend Sonic

So Avengers #21 is the literal definition of padding. Had they added one panel to each of the cliffhangers from last issue, this would have been entirely unnecessary. On the other hand, Guedes' art is really nice, with a fun pop-art inspired pair of splashes; and his Spider-Woman actually moves and has the anatomy of a real person. Her breasts jump out from the page - not because they're exploitative or thrown at the camera, but because he accounts for their weight as she moves. It's a nice reality all too commonly missing.

Hawkeye? He seems like he would be an odd man out in space.

The costume makes me think it's the Human Torch. Could just as well be Pym.

Everything about Secret Avengers is screaming "Come back, I miss you!"

Curse you Secret Avengers, I swore you off when your second arc was terrible and Brubaker stormed off abruptly!

Did they ever even resolve the plot with that shadow council guy they had kidnapped at the end of that arc?

I'm starting up Secret Avengers when Hawkeye joins in, because of reasons.

I'm not picking up any of Remender's books, and a guilt about it is consuming me. I'm interested in jumping onto his SA run, because it will probably give that book an actual purpose and direction, but I just don't have the cash to add more books to my pull right now.

The idea of semi-cosmic Avengers heading out to space to kick ass and take names is really tempting, though.

That panel someone posted with Captain America telling his teammates to torture the enemy is keeping me away from Secret Avengers. I can't afford it anyway so that's a good thing.

    Quire.jpg

Well that was from Warren Ellis' run

and while he had a few good stories he writes a fucking terrible Captain America because he is incapable of writing someone who is a good person

That cover makes a ludicrous amount of no sense but it is also slightly worthwhile for Namor choking the crap out of Ol' Blue Eyes.

It would just be more drowned Avengers because the extinction team doesn't screw around, word up yo.

I wish Marvel would just release their full solicits now, this new way they're doing it is pretty weak.

Bendis' Moon Knight has been pretty good I must say. I was a little worried about the direction he was taking the book in, mainly because of the change he made to the way Marc Spector's mental illness has worked over the years, but I think that this new direction has worked very well.
Moon Knight going toe-to-toe with Count Nefaria these last few issues have been really great, and the way that the Wolverine personality Spector's cultivated has now become the dominate one by killing all the other personalities in a homicidal rage means more hacking and slashing in the issues to come! Everything seems to benefit from more Wolverine.

If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten in your presence.

I hope Echo is not dead though. That would be pretty terrible. I'm sure she isn't but if she does I won't be impressed by Bendis fridging her like that.

This week's Axel in Charge. They had a summit at Marvel this week to figure out the post AvX status quo.

    And who was there?

Brian Bendis, Jeph Loeb, Jonathan Hickman, Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, Dan Slott, Rick Remender, Kieron Gillen and Mark Waid. Brubaker couldn't make it.

What specifically did they talk about? "We were there to talk about what happens next for the Avengers, the X-Men, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Huk and Thor."

The writers of each of those characters were in attendance. So obviously one of them, as expected, is the new Avengers guy. Is this more evidence for Hickman?

    Could it be... Mark Waid!?

And why does Jeff Parker never get to go to these things?

  • AriviaArivia I Like A Challenge Earth-1Registered User regular
Loeb. It's going to be Jeph Loeb Avengers.

Because the world is a horribly disappointing place a lot of the time.

Also Hickman on Avengers would go a long way to making my 2012.

The fact that Gillen was there makes me happy, dude deserves more work.

Smart bets on Avengers are Hickman, Waid or Slott. I would love to read Mark Waid's Avengers and Marvel is pretty damn happy with him right now.

he holds a high ranking position and is likely at a lot of meetings for stuff he doesn't actually write/touch

    Full April Solicits, finally

Captain America declares war on the X-Men, the mutantist.

Daredevil is now becoming a hodgepodge of artists, which is what I didn't want to see happen to it. There's plenty of good artists out there, pick one to stay with Rivera, unless he's leaving too.

Probably Slott is only providing plot or an ideas man, I can't see him doing three books a month.

    The Secret Service #1
Mark Millar (W) Dave Gibbons (A)
    Variant Cover By Bryan Hitch
From The Writer Of Kick-Ass And The Artist Of Watchmen Comes A Collaboration Decades In The Making. Says Millar:
“Secret Service Is The Ramifications Of [How] America Is Struggling On The World Stage, Funding Is Being Seriously Undercut To Balance The Books And Some People Are Trying Their Best To Take Advantage Of The Fragile Global Situation. The Hero And Sidekick Guys Who Lead The Book Are, I Think, The Best Characters I’ve Written.”
