Now that I'm actually playing the side quests, I have to say the shitty story hasn't got me quite as angry as right after I finished the game. One quick complaint though:
Vault 106.
It felt like they could have done so much more with the psychoactive drugs premise. Maybe I missed something, but the place was really empty, and the drug-induced hallucinations were pretty shallow. I was hoping for something more creative, like tranquility lane.
Lemme give you an example. The drugs could take you to Vault 106 before everyone went crazy, and then you'd live through the events that led to everyone becoming insane. That would have been awesome.
Anyway, I'm off to the underworld.

A rest (and recover) anywhere option would be good; having to find a century-old mattress to sleep is a pretty stupid mechanic. Beds should just make the benefits of sleep more effective rather than being required to restore health without aid items.
I am over the moon about this voice cast. It's either [strike]insanely good market research[/strike] or they just picked the perfect cast right out of my brain.
Yeah, but who cares? For me, what always made Dorn characters awesome was his voice. From Saints Row 2, to Kirk's lawyer, and throughout Deep Space Nine.
If there is one thing I approve of about the folks at Obsidian, its that they are unrelenting dorks. Its sad we won't get any shuttle crashes and wild TARDIS (TARDISes? TARDISS?), though.

Well, there was more to it, but Bethesda, proving their themselves right about being pussy programmers. They couldn't get their idea to work.
There is a cut item (you can console it in), that was meant to be in the Vault. It was a gas-mask. You had to wear it to navigate 106, or go bonkers. I'm sure there was more to it, and probably a quest, but if you console in and wear the mask, you'll find out why they couldn't do it. They couldn't get the effects to act properly, and once you put the mask on, everything is permanently blue-purple.
To be fair to Bethesda, the environment itself was a chilling place, ineffective survivors aside (seriously, how the hell have people continuously pumped full of psychotropics still around at 200 years?). There are scattered notes around the place, and they tell a great tale. Similar to Vault 92. Thats Bethesda's unquestionable success, their set-ups are some of the best you can ask for.

I dunno, the setup was cool the first few times, but for once I'd like to get the story from something other than a computer or audio recording.
I'll go back though, I think I missed something big. According to the Fallout wiki, [spoiler0there's a part where you see the Tunnel Snakes in a hallucination, which I never did.[/spoiler]
As for Vault 92, I just got there, so we'll see what that's about.
I feel like playing through Fallout 3 once more before New Vegas arrives. But I have a question.
I played Fallout 3 plenty on the PC, but what usually happened was, I would end up trawling Fallout nexus for mods - mod the shit out of my game - play it for a bit - trawl for more mods - play it for a bit - break the game with mods. Make a new character.
I did that cycle about 3 times and although I hate to admit it - I never actually finished Fallout 3 or played any of the expansions.
So here's my question - Fallout 3 game of the year edition - XBOX 360 - £23. Worth it?
I don't care about mods this time around I just want to finish the game and play the expansions - with the added bonus of doing it from my sofa. But is there anything super bad I should know about, (from the perspective of having playing it on the PC before now) before getting it on the 360?

Well, the main questline sucks balls once you hit the vault where stuff goes nutty. Just complete it up until that point and then wander the wastes and it's a grand fine way to spend some time.

Well I got pretty far on the PC, I know it's a great game, but really i'm asking if there's anything shockingly different between the PC/360 version that would be detrimental to my enjoyment?

mods, really. i got my copy first on 360, and it's absolutely fine, but like i said, a lot of things can be fixed with a touch of the modder's tool.
i hear the GOTY edition is a little spotty, though. i know fallout is buggy, but

Well, mods are great. But they almost always eventually break my game. Or I end up spending too much time mod hunting/installing rather than just playing the the damn thing.
I really feel like having a complete Fallout 3 game under my belt before New Vegas comes out, and I thought why not do it on my sofa in front of my obnoxiously and impractically large wide-screen telly.
If the lack of mods is the only drawback, then I reckon I'll do just that.

It depends. If you've really dove into the game and done a lot of exploration, it may feel dry on the 360, just becuase it'll be the same old thing... but without the nifty hat and jacket from your mods that you've come to know and love
If you feel like you haven' seen much or done much besides the main plot, then by all means hop on into the 360 version.
Mods are great IMO. The weather mod especially adds nice chunk of gameplay depth. Plus I like some of the costume/armor mods. I couldn't imagine playing without my M4 and Dragonskin armor.
Fellout is pretty awesome too.

You'd be better off getting some willpower instead of the 360 version. :P

I'm going to get New Vegas for 360, even though I know with all those mods it could be better on PC. Alas, my comp sucks nuts. By the next or next next Console generation, hopefully they make a feature to import mods from PC and put them on consoles.

I sometimes have that problem with games. The answer for me is to just not mod anything at all, and then I'm not constantly fiddling with it.
I'm playing through again, as I got the Goty edition on the cheap on steam. I've found the Point DLC to be pretty excellent, but I hear the DLC is a bit hit or miss.

I only modded Fallout 3 after I played and beat the vanilla game. As much as I loved it, mods have simply spoiled me and I can't even imagine not using at least a FEW in my list (MMM, EVE etc.). Of course, I had the week off when it came out so I beat the game long before any mods had time to come out, so I didn't have much choice.
Just finished Fallout 3 non-GOTY for PS3. Aside from some intermittent minute-long hiccups when engaging VATS and a handful of "stuck and can't move" areas it wasn't bad bugwise. Not sure about you but sometimes achievements/trophies give me an extra incentive to give the game a thorough pass-through. FO3 has a pretty doable list if that kind of thing gets your motor running.
All this Moira bashing is making me sad. She repairs my gear and sells me stuff while I offload various pieces of junk I accumulate to her. Sure she almost got me killed a few times (all in the name of SCIENCE!!!), but I forgive her. Mo's my go-to gal for resupplying and I have no problems with her whatsoever. There. I said it. I can't un-say it.

yea, he really loved Fallout 3 and Alpha Protocol.
If there aren't any 'Friends' references I'd be surprised.

Actually I was wrong... This aired on the 24th and NV was announced on the 20th... :P
Or you could watch this (no-mods) LP.

What do you mean?
This is a good thing. Moira is entirely pleasant to talk to.
In fact, I choose to destroy megaton every time, just so that looking at her face is even more pleasant whilst listening to her talk.
moira's lovely to talk to, as long as your let your gun do the talking
