Morgan Webb says, "Mario Galaxy needs more 3D!"
Could make the thread about terrible video game reviews. I personally would like to hate on reviewers incapable of judging a game within the limitations of the system it is on. I don't care if that Wii game doesn't look as good as a game on one of the HD twins, I (somewhat) care if it looks good for a Wii game. Also reviewers reviewing games from genres they don't like.

I think if we simply ignore the "needs more 3D" comment she doesn't come off as being all that unreasonable. Maybe everyone should relax a little about a slip up on a podcast?

But the style works perfectly well on consoles. Most publications have lauded EAD Tokyo for their pleasing aesthetic, technical expertise, and overall polish.
If she's complaining about jaggies that's a hardware limitation.
I'm not really sure what she means by both the 3D comment and the one about the style only working on handhelds. I can't expect everyone to appreciate Super Mario Galaxy 2, but I'd like to at least understand the criticisms of high profile reviewers.
If I had to guess about the 3d comment, it probably means that the game does spend alot of time in 2d mode, and she wanted more 3d sections.
It does, from what I've played.
Also it sounds like this wasn't an official review, just a small discussion about the game. What's wrong with saying it doesn't look good on a HDTV when it doesn't? Unless she brought this up in the actual review (which they mentioned they gave it a perfect score), I don't see why she shouldn't.

Well, she claims to like platformers in general. I'd say her general assessment, aside from the limitations of the SD console, is that she feels like she's just sort of "done" with Mario. The shine has worn off (and let's be honest, we're talking after two decades...that's pretty good), and despite liking platformers she just couldn't bring herself to love this game.
I can get that.
It's actually exactly how I felt about the first Galaxy.
I can agree she needs to get over the SD aspect, though. Hey, if you need to break out an old SDTV to adequately judge it, do so. I don't care. I'll agree that on my HDTV the Wii looked like rotten asshole more often than not. Oh fucking well. Either get over it and review Wii games within the limitation of the console, or just keep your mouth shut on them. The graphics are sub-par. We know. No need to say it.
I wasn't really commenting on the video but reviewers in general. To be honest I didn't watch it, I don't like Morgan Webb at the best of times.

Mario Galaxy looks great and it is supposed to be "cartoony". That is the art style. A sensation of happiness and nostalgia emanates from that game that few can match.
I think it is unreasonable to expect those games to "grow up". That is kind of missing the point. Still, the end of the the first one was much darker than usual.
Nostalgia, in no sense is a four letter word. I wish it would stop being used as such.
Very true. But again, it can wear off. I can stop feeling nostalgic. It's okay.
Not necessarily saying that at you, but there is the implication that Mario Galaxy survives on nostalgia alone. It certainly wields it, but there's more there than just that.

"Grip 'em up, grip 'em, grip 'em good, said the Gryphon... to the pig."
What I like now is that the graphics in the game actually match the drawings in manuals of the old ones. It is like they can now fully realize their artistic vision. To be honest, however, I don't really see a new direction they can go after galaxy. They may have to actually work on story now.
Somebody for whom the Mario nostalgia has finally worn off
She and I would get along
Hey, I didn't really like Super Mario Galaxy but, I had good reasons.
This chick thinks the graphics are bad and the game makes her feel as though she is four years old so, it gets the shelf?
She shouldn't have a job anywhere near this industry. We've got enough idiots already.
She's like Glenn Beck or any person in media being someone or representing something "fresh" or "crazy" just to make money. Glenn Beck doesn't believe a single word of the shit he says, he does it because he gets ratings for saying it and makes money from that. Morgan Webb is not a "gamer", she's a hot as shit girl who wants nerds to think she's just as hardcore as them because it makes them think they can one day get a girl like her. No, sorry, will never happen. Even if in the farthest reaches of insanity a girl that hot is hardcore into gaming, they will still never go out with a typical pasty-skin glasses wearing nerd. She goes out with rich guys or male models. She makes money because shes talks about gaming like she does it every day, which is a total ruse.
And also for anyone who doesn't know what she looks like.
I can understand the "needs more 3D" comment as Mario does happen to have a very solid 2D game on the same platform that was released not too long ago. The 2D sections in Galaxy 2 are really fun, but there really are an awful lot of them for a 3D Mario game.

I haven't been able to play straight platformers (IE, all you do is jump around and perhaps collect things) since like.. forever. It's fucking super boring.
Good grief that jaw could crack walnuts between it's mighty molars.
In this case I actually agree with what she's saying. In essence, it's like comparing a Pixar film to some other 3D animation for kids, let's say, comparing Toy Story to, um, I dunno, Horton Hears a Who?
Pixar will make a film for children that is cartoony, it has your slapstick comedy, a mostly simplistic, morally black and white plot, etc, so that kids can understand and enjoy it. On the flipside, they also work in soooo many adult jokes, references, etc that will go completely over the kids' heads and give the adults a good laugh.
Whereas Horton is really, really simple, there isn't any subtext for adults, and it is pretty much only enjoyable for the young. This is the situation that Mario finds itself in, with it's incredibly simplistic stories, art design, environments, characters, dialogue, etc, and beyond the gameplay, it has nothing for adults.
Anyway, I think this is what she's trying to say, perhaps she's not using the right words.

ok?
she is a girl
and girls do not know about video games
sorry but them's the facts
No.
It clearly lacks 3D and needs more of it.
Also the style only works on handhelds.
3DS is going to be a GODSEND for her.
But we already have an Alpha Protocol thread.

She has very bad taste in things
she prety h0t tho
It's not even a valid complaint, really
Super Mario Galaxy did some really neat and exciting stuff for the 3D platformer
I can only assume that the sequel follows suit
