I actually think we may see a storage bump, a bump in the quality of the camera... MAYBE a case redesign at most.
But I also don't think Verizon is getting a new iPhone in may/June. This might be a pretty low-key year for upgrades to the iPhone hardware, but coupled with some great software updates, unless they really surprise us with something nobody out there has right now and not a lot of people are thinking of (cause lets face it, the iPhone has all the important / good hardware features at this point).

Except Flash. Grumble, grumble.
I don't really expect Apple to stagger their releases for Verizon... for one, it'll piss off Verizon folks for being stuck with the "inferior" version of the iPhone. And then there's the fact that Apple doesn't really make special arrangements or compromises for, well, ANY company. I remember reading a Wired article on the relationship between AT&T and Apple, and it's always been "it's Apple's way or the highway." With that in mind, I really don't see them creating many differences between the models (except in the few cases where the carrier's tech forces them to, such as the lack of simultaneous voice and data on Verizon's iPhone 4).
In other words, I'd be willing to bet we will see a new iPhone for Verizon in June. But we'll see.

Storage bump, iOS5.
That's my guess.

The only thing that makes me think about getting it now is that while I live 5 minutes from DC, in a suburb that has 4g coverage, I go to school in the middle of no-where in southern VA, where they won't likely get 4g for a looooooooong long long long time. I have an old ipod touch, so I know how awesome ios is, and my droid is getting on my nerves recently......
Yeah, we're overdue for a storage bump. New form factor, maybe some new feature that isn't universally useful. Beyond that I'd be surprised. But surprises has happened before.
Spent a productive day at work beating Rothgarr's Pix'n Love Rush score. There's no phone signal so this wasn't uploaded to Game Centre. Getting back home and on Wi-Fi I look up Game Centre but my new score still isn't up. 'I know.' says I 'maybe turning the phone on and off will cause a Game Centre score sync. It did. In the wrong pigging direction!

Goodbye high score. Grump, grump, grump.
So what you're trying to say is... you never really beat my score...
I AM DA CHMPIONS!!!
EDIT: I've actually had entire sets of achievements disappear. I had gotten maybe 10 achievements in Rage HD. The next day they were all gone...
So, I took the plunge on Ascendency, and am really happy with the purchase.
The help stuff is pretty huge, which makes it a lot easier to get started.
For the question about refitting ships, you need an orbital dock and then you can switch around the parts on a ship in orbit with it.
Overall, it is a really deep game so far, and I'm glad I picked it up. I can see myself sinking a lot of time into it. Especially nice on the iPad.

Yeah, back in high school I'd start a game of Ascendency in the evening and finish up sometime around... 3am on a school day. Achieving peace between 5 other aliens is very time consuming.
Though I did get the Gaia's Navel victory once (Achieve victory without leaving your home planet, mentioned in a PC Gamer mag some years back).
Take the telepathic race (the one's whose racial bonus is instant communication with all other races at start). Then start researching everything you can for trade and start making nice with everyone.
It's a lot harder than it sounds because the Galactic Peace victory only happens when EVERYONE is at peace with each other. And there's always one asshole race that wants to fight everyone.

I'd be surprised if they didn't announce SOMETHING decent, especially with the overwhelming number of Android devices due out. I'm tempted to hop on board the Android train but there are a ton of games I really like playing on the iPhone.
Wishlist for the next iteration
Better Camera (flash)
Faster Hardware (the 3gs equivalent of 4S)
HDMI or VGA video output, I'd love to play some Cave Shooters or Infinity Blade on a larger screen when I am home. I'd even settle for Hulu Plus and Netflix when traveling over a friends or hotel room.
iOS updates
Block phone numbers/texts
WiFi Hotspot
Swype
Better enterprise apps/security
Updates for Safari
Remove the 20 MB cap
Make iTunes not terrible
Anyone know of an app that when on, or say an alarm is set, the only calls that will cause the Phone to ring are people in your contacts/added to a list?
Working swings sucks sometimes. You go one day past on your Dell account, and you get nonstop phonecalls for a week or two straight starting at around 7am, even after youve paid the fucking thing. Yes I could turn the ringer/phone off, but I've gotten those 3 am death in the family calls, and my aunt has been in and out of the hospital for the past couple months.

I'm a little confused, doesn't the iPhone 4 have a flash?
In what ways do you think the hardware is too slow right now? I always feel like the people from the PC gaming crowd always just say "make it faster", but what's so slow now? I the user experience would benefit more from having more memory.
The iPad, iPhone 4 and latest iPod Touch all support VGA out as long as you have the cable. The OS doesn't support display mirroring so it's up to each developer to choose what happens when their app is connected to an external display. This is definitely the most flexible method although maybe not always what people want and it relies on the developers to implement the functionality.

It's not currently possible to have a feature like that. The development SDK doesn't give that type of access to the phone part of the system, so there's no way for an app to check who's calling and cancel the ringing. Also programs don't can't run in the background like that to constantly check incoming calls.

I use the flash on my iPhone all the time. Not just for pictures but as a flashlight, too.
I can understand always wanting faster processors. And I'm sure there will be at least some speed bump, even if it isn't labeled as a 4GS version.
No HDMI, but I have both component and VGA cables for my iPad and iPhone 4. They work great for apps that support it. I'd really love if more developers used this feature.

Anyway, anybody see this Gravity Hook thing? It's from the Canabalt guys, I guess?
Another great .99 game with an extra $1 of polish, I guess, so it's a bit spendy.
But it's totally the type of casual game I can get hooked on..

Quick fix. Generate a silent ringtone. Put it on your iPhone.
Put everyone you want to be able to reach you on a custom rington of your normal default.
Whenever you go to sleep, switch your default ringtone to the silent one.
Done.

Let's play Mario Kart or something...
What sites do you guys go to for iOS games news/reviews? Right now I read toucharcade.com.
This is the best one I've found; there's also Slidetoplay.com, which I don't visit quite as often, but really between TA and browsing the forums here and at GAF I've been more than happy with finding stuff. Word of mouth is really the best way to find new games; if you follow John Davison on Twitter, he tends to Tweet about a ton of iPhone games.
In other news, I finally beat Infinity Blade today on the way into work! Finished it on the fourth bloodline, but just barely; was swinging like crazy at the end as the God-King and I were both at minimal health. A really awesome game; can't wait to see what else developers come up with using the engine.
So is everyoneloving Ascendancy? I never played the original, but this sounds interesting.
So long as you can handle the 90s graphics, I think it is a great game. I had never played the original either, but I'm enjoying it. There is. Lot of depth, even though all races have the same tech-tree. The various builds of ships allows for a pretty diverse experience every time you play.
I mean, yeah, I'd love even more customization, but it is probably the deepest iOS title I have yet to see, so I'm totally okay supporting the game in hopes of more 4x endeavors coming to the store.

Me too, but I wish they were new and not old games that I already played to death.

Well, if Ascendency does well, maybe we'll see Gameloft knock out a 4x. :P

Not exactly the same thing but I would LOVE Sins of a Solar Empire on my iPad.
I think I just lost my "hardcore gamer" card though. I fell in love with the free Christmas version of Cut the Rope and I had to buy the full game. Its just a really neat looking puzzler that anyone can enjoy. (and I know I'm late to the party)

Don't fret—Cut the Rope and Angry Birds fall under the PopCap clause ("So casual, it's hard-core") of the Hard-Core Gamer Contract. I love Cut the Rope.

Whilst I read toucharcade and slidetoplay for news there reviews are very, erm, shallow.
I'ld recommend reading Podgamer - which has excellent recommendations for games with interesting mechanics and the like.
and wosblog (which is 90% stuff about iOS with the rest mainly be xbox indie games and so on).
They're hosted on the same site, but (no longer) affiliated.
Oh, and there is also iPhoneTiny - which is actually a twitter feed, and has great reviews
Disclaimer, I'm a twitter acquaintance with Craig Grannel and fell out massively with Stuart Campbell (but boy he can write)
I bit the bullet on Ascendancy, it is pretty cool. I'm a big 4X guy but never played this particular one. It has a weird approach to depth (tech = dead simple, building ships = WOAH).

Seriously. The amount of tactics you can come up with using all the ship tech is pretty impressive. The gadgets give you a huge amount of flexibility.
I know back in the day that the AI sucked, so it wasn't really necessary to use any sort of strategy. But now, I'm hoping it's good enough to reward cleverness.

Ok, I want to know, and mainly I just want to know that I'm not the only one: which iPod games have caused you to almost throw or hit or smash your iPod? Mine are both EA games, Risk and Monopoly. Each over impossibly bad luck with rolls.
