Ugh, I'm sure there'll be a lot of whiners happy that they're wasting time on something that isn't necessary. Now we'll have to put up with generic bald guy again.
You don't even know what he'll look like yet and you're complaining. He'll look closer to his original self than trannie Mirror's Edge hero.
Played through this game a little bit but got bored again. I think I need to take a break from free-roaming games for a while and then maybe I'll be able to finish this one.
I didn't post anything besides the quote because I'm neither here nor there on Cole's look. But holy cow some of you guys are really passionate about whether this guy has hair or not .
I refuse to purchase the sequel unless Cole is bald and tattoo-less. He must also have stubble, that is the most important. Oh, and a jacket. He wouldn't be a hero without a fly jacket.
I'll wait until I see the re-redesign, but the original Cole was part of the reason why I never played the first. And the new look was part of the reason why I'm giving Infamous 2 a look. It also looks about 10 times more fluid and fun, but yeah.
If they strike a balance between the new and old, it could be fine, but I really don't want the old Cole (Generic McMotorcross) back.
Before anyone starts specumalatin' on Cole's look, remember that the section showing him is a sequence from before the start of Infamous which may or may not reflect accurately on his current appearance. On the plus side, no dumb bro tattoos.

I think a lot of people have forgotten how generic and ugly the original Cole was. Here's some screens posted on Neogaf comparing the two:

I can't believe anyone would let the look of the main character (which isn't an important thing at all) stop them from playing one of the best games this gen
I don't really understand how anyone could say the original Cole looks more generic than the redesign. The new Cole looks practically indistinguishable from the protagonists of a dozen other games. I actually thought Buzzcut McUglyface was relatively distinctive.
It's not that I have a problem with a redesign, though. Maybe he decided to grow some hair. Who cares? What bothers me is he looks like a different person altogether. Younger, even. It's just a bit jarring, like swapping out actors in a film sequel.
Ah well. It's definitely not a big deal. I just like continuity.

It's actually hugely important for me. Infamous is a power fantasy. I'm meant to feel powerful through the main character. If the main character bothers me, I won't be able to get into the game.
I think it's a real bad call. Old Cole was acceptable because he was in an awesome game. New Cole is better, because the original idea for inFamous is What Happens When A Normal Guy Gets Super Powers?
I've never met anyone like Old Cole. No one who talked like him, no one who looked like him, and certainly no one who dressed like him.
New Cole looks like any number of dudes you'd bump into at a bar on a weekend - a normal guy, who happens to have super powers. And now they're caving to a bunch of internet complainers.

It's another problem of listening to the vocal minority. When something happens that people don't like, only those people, who tend to be the minority, speak up. People who like it don't bother.
I still would have been happy if they just removed the tattoos. Growing hair isn't much of a change.
Guys I don't think they sat in their office and went "People on the internet don't like Cole, lets change him". I assume the disdain came from game industry people as well as feedback from fans.
Let us get it straight, you didn't like Cole in the first game? Fine. But if you don't like Nathan Drake in Uncharted you better believe I'm going to claw your eyes out if they throw a model of Raziel in there and tell me that its the same thing.

You see, the problem with the character redesign is that it was too drastic. People played the first game and loved it, and here's the first footage of the sequel and the main character looks and sounds completely different. They just have to pull it back a bit. Make him look a little more Jason Stathamy.
I just hope for a developer diary that explains why they felt the need to make such drastic changes in the first place. It was bad when we heard that the voice actor had been replaced but why a completely different character model as well?
Personally even though I didn't mind the new design, I hate hate hate that they would even think of replacing a character like that. It just didn't make any sense and reeked of the marketing department trying to get into the process too much. If you want a new character like that, then make a new character. Don't parade something completely different around and pretend its the same person. To me that would cause such a huge disconnect. It's a disconnect that kind of turned me off Infamous 2 until the announcement that it's going back to closer to the old design.
I mean I liked Infamous and the trailers and things for Infamous 2 looked really awesome, but I still felt this strange ambivalence towards the game.

I don't think he really looks that different. He lost the jacket, because he's going from New York in winter to the south in what looks like summer/spring. They smoothed out his mouth area a little, and had him regrow hair.
Man, if they allowed the player to customize their own Cole this wouldn't be such an issue. Hell, I was happy to see Cole with some hair and a normal t-shirt instead of that fugly jacket.

I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

Who cares what he looks like? People on the streets just go, "Dang sauce that guy just surfed by on a power-line."
I know you did not just insult Faith

Old Cole looks like a crackhead.

The new Cole is no less generic than the old one, he's just different but I guess that's an issue.
No, they're changing him back
Sorta
Maybe
I imagine they'll compromise. Make him bald, lose the tats, keep him in the motocross suit

I might actually enjoy that version!

At least he doesn't look like a meth-head anymore.
But yeah, if New Marais is supposed to be New Orleans, long sleeves is not a good choice.
But whatever, I can deal. The animations were another sticking point for me, and they've improved from the first game, too.
I like this
UnbreakableVow, meet Bayonetta.
Bayonetta, UnbreakableVow.
I thought Cole was bald in the first game because of the big electrical burst that happened on his body, you can see the remains of his hair even.
Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
