You see it makes sense for Cole to be bald. More aerodynamic. And what if he got his hair caught on something while free running? It would really hurt.

xagarath, elliotw2 and greeble said bald. I was just going with the convo. Don't be pedantic.

The dude from Fracture, Baldur from Too Human, Default Male Shepard from Mass Effect, and Desmond from Assassin's Creed have the exact same haircut as Cole.

Gears of War's Marcus Fenix has a do-rag covering his head, basically side-stepping the choice of what hair to give him. And the dude from Prototype has a hood, also avoiding the hair problem.

Cole's look and sound makes sense in the first game because he was basically electrocuted and lived. I can see his hair growing back, but looking less ragged? Having his voice go back to normal? Just doesn't jive.

Default shepard and Desmond both have hair, even if its short. The other two I wouldnt know but they're hardly huge games either.

This doesn't lend credence to this epidemic of short haired main characters.

And again he didn't just have hair, he had a completely different character model, with the voice gone as well he was unrecognisable.

Buzz cut, bald, doesn't matter. It doesn't help the character look any less generic.

Anyway. I'm never going to convince you that the original Cole looked generic, sounded ridiculously gruff and had silly animation, and you're never going to convince me that the initial design for Cole in Infamous 2 was a bad idea.

So I'll continue not playing Infamous, and you can keep playing and enjoying it.

    Problem (not) solved.

Actually, the new voice is an improvement.

And I hope the morality system is gone too. That will prevent Cole from having to brood over what kind of poster to place around the city and have it affect the color of his lightning bolts.

I thought Cole was bald in the first game because of the big electrical burst that happened on his body, you can see the remains of his hair even.

He was bald in the prequel comics though. But I put the electrical burst down as the reason he sounds so gruff. Tightening muscles and what not. In one of the dead drops it's insinuated that he wouldn't have control over his powers for a while.

They are updating the morality system to sit in more of a shades of gray area, rather than a flat "unfailingly kind superhero" or "massive douche-bag" choice. That's what they say anyway. Still waiting to see how it turns out in-game, along with his new look, before I become furiously outraged and declare I will not buy the game based on some trifling perceived affront.

I know I'm being irritating and inflammatory, but I really do think that the stuff I'm touching on is important in a game that's half power-trip, half role-playing.

Character image, character voice, character animation, the morality system, melee, and climbing. These were all things that bothered me at least a little in Infamous. Otherwise I would have played it. It's a fun game. So really it just missed the mark for me.

Infamous 2 looks to revamp all that from the videos they've shown and the articles I've read. It's disappointing that Sucker Punch decided to backpedal on the character redesign, but everything else looks great. And from the most recent video, they seem really excited about adding fun melee for Infamous 2, which was seriously lacking from Infamous. It was even something they touched on in their post-mortem in Game Developer magazine.

So yeah, Infamous 2 looks fun, and I can't wait to see the next-next version of Cole. Seriously.

And with that I'm going to bow out for a while, because I'm obviously irritating some people.

edit: Fine, one more thing: I've played with the flying and grinding abilities. Just because I didn't play through the game doesn't mean my friends didn't.

Btu surely you can understand the frustration with them taking a character from a game that sold well and was received quite well and completely changing him? How do you think that feels to those who enjoyed the first game and took the time to play through the whole thing? There's a massive disconnect.

Yeah. In that context, it's going a little too far with a redesign for a sequel. I like it, but I can definitely see where fans could feel confused and frustrated.

Some of them are clearly meant for comedic effect (Bald Mario anyone?) but Stalker guy looks pretty bald under that hood to me. Altair I'm not sure about either. Alex, are you sure we don't see him without the hood early in the game? I can't remember, Prototype only kept my interest for like 30 minutes. And as for Sam, when he's not hobo-ing around the streets, he's pretty bald (Double Agent in particular). My biggest problem with that picture of him though, is that he really looks like he's wearing eyeliner.

Yeah, he was bald in Double Agent. Double agent also sucked. In the other games, he just has short back and sides, not even a buzz cut. Sam Fisher doesn't belong on there.

Of course I was. I'm fond of the Cole I spent an entire game with, not some douchebag in Mirror's Edge pants with random tattoos. The new design took what was left of Cole (since nothing can be done about his voice, his looks were all that was left) and shat all over it in the name of making him friendlier and likable to some audience that probably didn't even play the first game? Fuck that.

If there has to be some sort of natural character progression that's fine, but that wasn't Cole.

See, the only thing I really disliked about Infamous was the character design, and I wanted it changed.
It's nothing to do with there being a lot of bald game protagonists, it's to do with Cole's original design being ugly and dull.
The more the sequal moves away from it, the better.

But that's all my opinion. I can see people not liking inFamous' art direction. Greyest city I've ever seen. But I loved the animation and the story. And the combat was fun too. Felt like a modern beat-em-up. Doesn't make bitter bald guy more enjoyable, though, I realize.

First off, he had pretty god damn similar pants in the first game, they just didn't have the scottish flag on them. Secondly, you're complaining about his fucking clothes. What, do you never change your clothes or something? You really wanted him to still be wearing his clothes from the first game?

People that want a friendlier and more likable Cole probably haven't even played the first game? Yes, I and everyone else here that thought old Cole was a fugly meth user clearly haven't played the original game, that's why you clearly have a far more reasoned argument than us... I'm not sure what absurd vendetta you've got against aesthetically pleasing design (or hair) but I find it bizarre to say the least.

And again, the Game Informer cover I posted before is actually what I'd expect as a middle ground between ugly Cole and good looking Cole.

We're not really looking at this whole hair/no-hair thing from the point of view that matters most: the barber's.

You're at your shop, and this guy comes in. The same guy that's been leaping around the city shooting lightning out of his ass. And he wants you to get in close proximity of his head with a sharp metal object. Sorry pal, but unless you're doing your puppy-drowning playthrough, I don't see that happening.

They could make it part of the morality system. Evil Cole threatens to kill the barber's family if he doesn't get a regular shave an' a haircut. Good Cole respects the man's fears and decides to let it grow, and you eventually look like Electric Jesus.

Seriously, I do think a reasonable person would be afraid to go near Cole, no matter how many times he says, "Trust me, I can control it." Leaving the responsibility to Zeke, or himself. It's a lot easier to shave your own head then give yourself a decent haircut.

Anyway Alex Mercer definitely wasn't bald

But the thing is people you're forgetting the zillions of counterexamples (mostly in RPGs)
Actually thinking about it now every japanese game I know of has a hero with a substantial mop of hair (I really can't think of any bald/buzzed japanese leads) while western developers seem to enjoy the buzzed look. Maybe it's a military thing?

The thing is it's pretty difficult to make hair not look like a piece of plastic sitting on someone's head as opposed to the ease of sending that chrome-dome hero out into the world

Actually, it seems that showers don't affect him, since he mentions how he wanted hot showers back at the start of Infamous. I'd guess that rain and showers don't conduct enough to kill him, while a large body of water does.
