First off, he had pretty god damn similar pants in the first game, they just didn't have the scottish flag on them. Secondly, you're complaining about his fucking clothes. What, do you never change your clothes or something? You really wanted him to still be wearing his clothes from the first game?
People that want a friendlier and more likable Cole probably haven't even played the first game? Yes, I and everyone else here that thought old Cole was a fugly meth user clearly haven't played the original game, that's why you clearly have a far more reasoned argument than us... I'm not sure what absurd vendetta you've got against aesthetically pleasing design (or hair) but I find it bizarre to say the least.
And again, the Game Informer cover I posted before is actually what I'd expect as a middle ground between ugly Cole and good looking Cole.
I don't really care all that much about his hair, my biggest issue was honestly the complete restructuring of his face. Then right after that the obnoxious as shit tattoos that seem to be slapped on for no reason. Then dead last the clothes.

Maybe since he has a major memory issue he uses the tattoos to help him remember.

I thought the fugly meth user Cole looked fine. I also prefer his old voice. I mean, if you don't recall, he went through this huge blast at the very beginning of 1, he was all burnt up. People generally don't look aesthetically pleasing after being burned. But apparently to the new design of Cole, his lightning powers make him age in reverse, so any damage done to him, when he drains electricity to heal himself and in the process makes him look younger? haha. Well, hopefully SuckerPunch doesn't screw up something good they have going, I would like to see an Infamous 3... (and that probably won't happen if 2 bombs)

I can't see infamous 2 bombing, especially if they nail the combat and movement like they did in the original.
I had listened to it before thinking it was a new guy. I felt bad because it must suck landing a gig and being told that noone likes you so you're being replaced. But everything worked out.

I actually don't mind the new voice. As BakerIsBored said, he was at the center of an explosion. I put the gravelly voice down to smoke inhalation. It's healed now :P

What about the "old" guy. The guy that got laid off. It must suck getting that gig. :P

That's true I didn't think about that. I can see how that situation panned out.
"So hey umm... we're gonna go in a new direction with Cole."
"Well, alright what do you need me to do?"
"That's the thing, we don't really need you to do anything."

I don't really care for the tattoos either, so I've no real issue with that part of your argument. Still annoys me that you'd bother to complain about the clothes though.

Well, Old Cole VA had to be replaced simply because they were going for the Uncharted cutscenes where the actors are there and go through the motions and he wasn't available for that period of time. That's also why they're keeping the new VA, they already got through all or at least a lot of that stuff with him.
He doesn't have that manly warrior attitude Kratos does, nor that Ben Affleck-doing-an-impression-of-Harrison Ford quality Nathan Drake does. He's not an all-american soldier you'll find in the countless FPSes and he's not the macho superhero you find in Gears of War.
He's dirty, beat up, and bitter with shades of being poor and homeless. It's utterly perfect for the world/city inFamous is set in. His look is a part of his character and the tone of the game; an indicator of how we should think of the city he's trying to save.
To fundamentally change Cole so much is preposterous. If they wanted such a different character: make a new one who isn't Cole. That would've been fine! But to slap the name Cole on a completely different person is just an insult.
When talking purely about aesthetics, inFamous was a unique game with familiarity. It wasn't a testosterone filled adrenaline rush so much as it was an adventure, and it wasn't a grim and ultraviolent dystopia so much as it was just... kind of filthy.

Fascinating. Learn something new every day. Thanks guys.I will say that I like how things are done on this board. Real conversations, respectable posts (nothing that slows down bad connections, like mine between this laptop and my router) and a general sense of ingenuity.
But that's way off topic: inFamous is awesome and if they wanted a different feel, I'd be big on a new character. A woman even! I just think changing a character so much is kind of.. lazy. Even if you don't like Cole, you have to admit it's kind of cheating.
Ever since I read this article on Destructoid about how the industry is basically a hellhole I feel bad for insulting people's hard work on games. But come on. It would actually just be easier to keep him the same AND it won't be so jarring.

Chances are, they would've had to recreate his model anyway, so while it may've been a bit easier (since they wouldn't have had to go through the redesign process), there wouldn't have been that much difference
I loved everything about Infamous but the characters, so that's why I'm in complete favour of the redesign. I don't consider it cheating to make a clean swap, so long as it doesn't contradict things they've already established (which it doesn't).
What I'd consider cheating is making the swap but coming up with some convoluted reason for it, which is what happens all the time in comics and just ends with a confusing mess (since every new writer has their own ideas of what happened, so you get different convoluted stories stacked upon each other and no real definition, just take a look at Donna Troy's entry on wikipedia).
Hahaha NO I'd rather waste away in front of TVTropes than go down that road.
But I get your opinion on the redesigns. Hell I think Cole is the only good looking character from inF1 but I like the character PORTRAYAL of... everyone. I just think the trailer for the upcoming game set a very different tone that was a bit of a contrast from the original. That's my whole argument. Tone.
This sequel is just going in a different direction than I'd anticipated. I'll gladly play it. But just seems like, at best, "Cole shenanigans in a different city with new powers" I either wanted something firmly rooted in the original city he had such an impact on, or a brand new character coping with powers. It could have been a running theme instead of focusing on Cole. That's what I really wanted. I was kind of disappointed it was Cole in the first place. Then I figured 'Well at least it's someone I'm familiar with' Then I saw the E3 trailer and was baffled.
One thing I'm curious about: The game's called inFamous. Is the inFamous (bad guy) ending the canon ending to 1?

I think they're both canon endings. The outcome is the same, just your characters attitude to others is different.
Cole would use the people for his needs in the bad ending, and work to help rebuild the city for them in the good. Then again, this was when I figured that Cole's story was done.
I'd be fine with Cole being ugly if he actually looked like a tramp, or a homeless guy, or otherwise beaten-up or electrified. But he didn't. He looked like an ugly bad idiot who had decided to look like an ugly bald idiot.
That would guarantee it be completely in the realm of stupid.
Which it already is.
It's a superhero game.
The first game had you fighting giant robots and gas-spraying blimps.
We'd all be much better off if it admitted its own utter silliness instead of pretending to be gritty.
Then again, this was when I figured that Cole's story was done.
I don't know how you got that impression. When I played the endgame, it seemed like they were setting up more games featuring Cole.
He still has all that unfinished business, stopping "The Beast" and all. Plus, we'll probably get to see the origin of the Beast from Cole's perspective.
Also, I dig campy comics, but I've always thought Electro had one of the worst costumes in comic history.

Maybe I need to play through this again, but...
Who is the beast? Or is he not in the first game? I really should just go back and play through this again. So good

He is the entire reason this game exists. See: wikipedia article going over the entire spoilerous story.

The Beast isn't really in the first game. He's basically some really powerful supervillain in the future Kessler comes from. He's the guy who ruins the future so bad that Kessler goes back in time to manipulate Cole into becoming a superhero. The game is intentionally vague about where the Beast comes from and what he can do.
Posts
I'm going to his home to eradicate him
Also the tattoos.
I wouldn't mind a different design, just, use the first damn game as something to go by to get something that isn't YoungCole McCoolHip.
Maybe since he has a major memory issue he uses the tattoos to help him remember.
Like memento.

No, same younger voice actor. You can have listen to his voice here. That also shows the redesigned Cole, at least in the animated clips.

Seeing as they didn't bring him back because he was too busy to do motion capture, I doubt he's too bad off.

:^: Can I lime all of this?
Edit: lime is for truth. salmon for lies.
If you find something true, or awesome, or something, quoting it in the colour lime is appropriate. Red or salmon for bad things.

Just don't overuse it. It's pretty generally accepted though.
