im 2k short to buy the last power on my good/hard playthrough, and its taking for fucking ever to get there with UGC. there really needs to be a way to still earn XP after youve taken over everything and found everything
aside from that this game is the bees knees though.
I had no problem unlocking everything, but then again I pretty much stopped almost every mugging and healed every group of civvies I came across. Guess I could see if you barreled through this game you'd come up short, but in both my playthroughs I've been awash in XP.
@Septus: While the leech does restore your health fully, sometimes its hard to leech in the middle of a battle. So yes, evil Cole does run out of charge more than good Cole. I kind of wish there was some sort of upgrade to Leech (other than burning an Ionic Charge on Ionic Drain) that made it easier to recharge during the battle.
lol skull bolt and scythe bolts. those are some names all right.
I'm playing Good cole so I haven't run into anything like that. Maybe eventaully I'll unlock "Heaven bolt" or something ridiculous
The Hero karma unlock + Bolt Stream is fantastic.
Get a dude in your sights and you never run out of energy while taking him down. I started my Evil run today, slapped on the Reaver skin and started raining electric death on all that stand in my way.
Muahahahahahahahaha!
Sometimes you don't even have to do shit to strike fear into people. After a few evil missions, some npc said something nasty to me, because he hated me, or something. So I turn Cole around, and suddenly the guy gets frightened and backs away. I then grin as I start aiming at him. He runs, but I'm not firing at him: I'm firing in front of him. He panics and runs the other direction, so I fire, once again, into the direction he's running to, and he panics and runs the other way again. I do this repeatedly until I get bored, so I just run up and shockwave his ass into the water, then blast the water and watch him fry.
THAT is how you be evil.

True evil is blowing an ion storm on one guy because he bumped into you on the street.
Using the Reaper skin for an evil playthrough is a great idea. Only because I actually have a code for that, usually I cant be arsed to use aesthetic changing codes.
So does this game bump me up to Hard difficulty if I do well during the tutorial like the first game?
I just finished my good playthrough, here's some things that came to me as the credits rolled.
Endgame spoilers:
The last fight was too easy. Maybe I was overpowered?
I'd like to have seen Sasha or Alden show up somewhere. I guess Sasha and Nix are too similar so there was no need. And Aldin couldn't make the 1500 mile journey, due to being an old hobo?
Too much of the story was left in the dead-drops. More of it needed to be brought into the main cutscenes and such. But this is a problem with the first game as well.
Let's see, on one hand, there were gun-toting hicks, ice-freaks, and swamp monsters. On the other, some sad sap bike courier was duped into triggering a neutron bomb that killed thousands. Yeah, I'd say Empire City was a LOT more dead than New Marais.
I haven't beaten the game yet, but something's really stuck out to me. Light story spoilers
Just the way Nix and Kuo seem to fight over Cole. And the part where she doesn't want to use the transfer machine until he almost forces her rubbed me the wrong the way.

I'm not that far in, did my first mission with powered-up Kuo, but when Cole says he "did something" with Nix and she cuts him off immediately saying she doesn't want to hear it...that felt true to me. I've had women talk to me in similar ways in similar situations before.

I didn't see their bickering as over Cole so much as that one is actually rather smart and tries to think of the greater good while another just likes to break shit - them fighting seemed natural to me.
To be honest, I don't like Nyx very much. She seems kinda forced, but Kuo rings true most of the time.
Also, just finished my second run through and got the "evil" ending. Holy hell, that is about a billion times better than the "good" one.
Now my problem is,
wtf can they possibly do for a sequel? You'd have to have inFamous Red and inFamous Blue.
Chance on
'Chance, you are the best kind of whore.' -Henroid
The easiest way, short of just declaring the evil end non-canon I can think of is this:
Have a cutscene if you did the bad end in which Cole gets killed somehow, possibly by a heroic Conduit, ideally upon entering a new country. His body, battered and broken, is buried in an unmarked grave.
A bolt of red lightning blasts down sometime later, and Cole is revived, sans Beast powers and in a new place, where nobody knows him as he is now.
In the good version, we cut in when the bolt of lightning hits the boat at the end of 2's good end. Cole is revived, weakened and sans Kuo's powers, but alive and headed to a new place.
Personally, I'd just declare the good end canon, and do this:
See above for very opening. Elsewhere, similar events are occurring; Kuo's grave is beginning to frost over even though it's July. If you wanted to bring Nyx back, hers is starting to glow with heat as the grass bursts into flame. Miles away, a slick tar seeps out of an unmarked grave, and the stones of marked plots are forming into a hand that digs out another. The deaths of Conduits was greatly exaggerated.
And some of them are, you know, kinda pissed when they find out what caused their demise. Cole's stopped the beast, he's fulfilled Kessler's desires...And now he has a whole world he needs to send a message to, before other Conduits take him down or incite a full on war between them and normals. No prepared plans, no fate, just him and his allies out to make sure the world holds together...Or ends up under his electric fist.
That's just me, of course. And this is all assuming that 3 even happens.
Well, with Sanzaru working on Sly 4, Sucker Punch has gotta' be up to somethin'. They've finally become a seriously high-profile studio with inFamous - I doubt they'd let it go without trilogizing it.
Edit: Also, on my Evil run, the game upgraded me to Hard mode as I made my way through the swamp. I figured "sure, I could use the hard trophy." Upon beating the game? No fucking trophy. You don't get it if the game upgrades you.
Asshat minutae.
Chance on

If they make a third game, they should probably switch protagonists. Why? Because no matter which way you think it through, Cole's story is pretty much over. He's reached the pinnacle of his strength, and either killed the Beast or took his powers for his own. I much prefer the evil ending, because it could leave room for such a sequel, whereas the "Good" ending kills all conduits and everyone who could've been a conduit. Which means no more people with super powers.
There's a lot of talk about how Cole could've been revived at the end of the Hero ending, because of the Lighting bolt, but that's just not possible, because the RFI should have completely erased any and all genes having to do with him being a conduit, which means he died as a human, and couldn't possibly be revived.
While the Infamous ending leaves room for a sequel, though possibly with a different protagonist, otherwise you'd just be playing as evil Cole.

That sucks. I was dead set on making sure I got that trophy so after I got past the intro I set it to hard and started a new game just to make sure it was set right from the start.
I set the difficulty to hard pretty much the second you first get control, and I got the trophy. Difficulty clear trophies tend to be anal about that, so I made sure it was the first thing I did. But it is stupid that the game can recommend hard for you and then fuck you over like that. Not cool.

i did every good karma thing i came across, all the side missions, found every blast shard... everything possible really. and i came up 2k short. its a small complaint but whatever. i kinda wish you could make enemies start spawning again just so there would be something to do post game.

I also did everything, and I'm about 5-8k off. I didn't stop to do every random robbery that popped up, but I can't imagine I passed by 5k. I ran into this problem in the first game too. Did everything, was 5-8k off, and had to resort to finding a respawning group of enemies to grind the rest out. At least this has the UGC stuff to help with grinding.

XP from kills in UGC doesnt count as far as i can tell? i think you only get the XP that pops at the end of the mission, which the creator doesnt have any control over. ive done ridiculously hard combat missions and ended up getting like 90XP or something. its broken.

Did the RFI completely cover the world?. Even if it did I doubt it means that someone with the gene cant be born. A 3rd game that revolves around a new character with a different power set? I'm cool with that.

See, my interpretation was that it just severely inhibited the conduit gene's expression, in a process that proved fatal. It didn't actually erase it, it just kinda shut it down, and in turn it could theoretically kick back on.
This is, of course, assuming they even want to go with Cole for a third game. They might get more milage by setting it 15-25 years down the line and having a new Conduit come out of New Marais, who's heard the tale of The Electric Man a thousand times over and finds themselves developing powers of their own.

Okay so this isn't really a spoiler but just in case:
the hive lord on the island is the most fucking annoying part of the game so far. I have two sources of energy, he spawns a shitload of little things that do surprising amounts of damage, I can barely see anything because of the fog, and even when I stick him with grenades, he just goes underground and they don't damage him at all. Fuck this guy.
And half the time when I roll out of the way of his charge, he somehow hits me anyway and I fly into the water and die horribly

Yeah, that one can be a bit of an annoyance. Knowing WHEN to spam grenades at him is key, as is managing those little pod things.
My first time through, both of the generators got knocked into the water, so I had to jump back onto the boat to refill.

It was mostly frustrating because I beat him on my first try, but after the death cutscene I was instantly murdalized by the little spitty minions when Nix was telling me to get back on the boat. And I had to start over.
I'm pretty sure it saves when you find a shard or do a mission. Could be wrong though.

No, it doesn't as far as I remember. I remember a lot of complaints when it came out where people did the whole first island, quit, then went back to a fresh game with no saves.
It will save things like shards collected if you are running on a save game IIRC, but not actual progress.
I don't know. I wasn't expecting anything terribly impressive in terms of plot or anything, but it all seemed so disjointed in the end. But man, this is one fun damn game.

Also, what's up with the news reports? I mean, days go by as the Beast heads down south, but for some reason no one in the country has any idea what it is. I mean, he's a giant burning man. It's not like people wouldn't see him from far off and be all "Oh shit that's not a hurricane or a natural disaster. Maybe I should tell someone."
e: I guess it's mostly the execution of the story that bothers me. I mean, the game just randomly introduces the swamp monsters and no one questions what they are or where they come from. It's just like "oh hey here's this new enemy, that's okay I guess." And Nix shows up and you're all "hell yeah I'll run around zapping mans with you even though I'm on a strict deadline."
Also when
Kuo gets her powers and lacks even the most rudimentary control over them, then you're just like "PRACTICE" and all of a sudden she can just walk into a bunch of angry men with guns and freeze them all to death and she can teleport all over the place with incredible accuracy and how do ice powers even translate to teleportation and why couldn't that have been one of the powers she gave me argggh
Anyway, just got the
ice jump thing, and combined with the improved static thrusters, I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to Infamous 1. So much fun.
