Jordyn, we don't really have a bed, either. We have an air mattress that we bought for about $50.
we have a crappy air mattress.
I really want a real bed.
I'm thinking about going to lay on the couch instead, but now Tuque is on my lap being all cozy.
One time in his sleep, Framling said "You tell 'em, Cap'n!"
That was pretty great.
Ours sucks ass. It pretty much deflates halfway through the night, so when we wake up, if any of us gets up, the person who is still in bed immediately sinks to the floor.
We're thinking about just saying 'fuck it' and renting a bed.
Yeah, ours is deflated by morning time too.
I also feel really dumb sleeping that close to the floor. Like it's a damn sleepover or something.
The worst part for me was that we had a roommate in the room next door and trying to have sex on that thing was noisy and embarassing. I hated it.
When I lived in the dorms it was two rooms split by a livingroom and bathroom area ( a typical suite setup). There would be 5 or so people in the living room and we'd just disappear off to my room. Thing is they never heard us right on the other side of the wall it was my friend who lived right below us, they heard it coming from the air vents.
Hey rank, dunno if this has been addressed or not...but here in good old NC, any 8 hour shift requires two on the clock FIFTEEN minutes, plus half hour off the clock. and a 10 hour shift gets 3 fifteens, plus the half. I'm fairly sure that that's federal standard, not two 10's and a 30 for 8. Just...you know...talking. About stuff. That may not even matter anymore. Oh, and pony's right about the discrimination thing...totally against the law.
I'm a brain in a jar, so this doesn't really apply to me.
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

Yeah. but there is a huge difference in the harm chocolate causes than that which smoking causes.
It's all about scale. Do the benefits of smoking justify severely shortening your life? I wouldn't know, I've never smoked and never will. Im honestly intrigued.
I mean of course anything in excess is bad, eg chocolate or booze, but cigarettes too?
Yeah. but there is a huge difference in the harm chocolate causes than that which smoking causes.

You're making the same assumption with smoking that you are basing your argument that chocolate isn't so bad on.
Do all smokers smoke 30 a day? No.
Do the dangers decrease dramitacally when you stop smoking? Yes?
Yeah. but there is a huge difference in the harm chocolate causes than that which smoking causes.

As with anything, everything in moderation.
A non smoker making sense of smoking?
Shut up
You're not supposed to do this.
My personal belief is that you can do everything in moderation, or have one vice, and go to town with it.
I drink.
I drink vast quantities, and I get very, very drunk.

aahh
So your views on smoking are in actual fact a subconscious defense for your blatant alcaholism?
I smoke.
I smoke vast quantities and i get very, very .. smoked.
Also one thing that people are missing out here, and i think it is very important.
Mokst people who smoke, will at one point, decide that smoking is bad. Because it is bad. I dont care how many people say "But i like smoking" Because I like smoking. But i know that it is bad for me. And much like eating fried bread with melted cheese on top with a side of fried fried stuff, as much as i enjoy it i cannot realistically do it for the rest of mylife and expect no negative effects.
And they will decide to quit.
This is where problems arise. Quitting is very very very very hard.
And i think that it is this extremely difficult challange that puts people off the idea of quitting and they decide to tell themselves that "hey smoking isnt all that bad. infact i like it. So shut up."
But for someone who has never smoked I just dont understand the benefits of it.
As in, with chocolate, it tastes nice, or with drinking you get merry and have a good time etc. But with smoking, I dunno. Everyone I know who smokes has tried to quit at some point. Seems like the 'draw' is not enough to counterbalance the serious health risks.

Wow, Toad, you proved me wrong.
I thought every possible retarded thing that could be said about smoking had already been said in the previous 40 pages.
Way to go.
(Disclaimer in case you didn't read the thread: I am not a smoker and I still think what you're saying is a load of bullshit.)

Sorry. I dont smoke nor have many smoker friend. So Im pretty naive about the whole thing.
Could you explain how I was being retarded so that I can correct my views please?
Is smoking somehow now healthy? I know its addictive and the nicotin rush feel, but how does that rush compare to say, eating chocolate. I assume it is more of a strong feeling for smoking to be so addictive.
UKers in particular since it is coming into force this summer.
My friend expressed his total support of it in the pub last night. But then went on to tell me that the british population are too "nannied" by the government.
I think he's dumb.

Read the thread. Rank and other smokers detail why they choose to do it.
I have friends who do it. The one thing I hear from them the most is that it relaxes them and calms their nerves.
I may not like their habit but I'm not going to judge them for it. They know the risks. Some choose to quit, others try and fail.
The "draw" is that nicotine itself is addictive, but also that it is a lifestyle habit. It's not easy to change your habits when you're so used to them. When you rely on a ciggy to calm yourself down, that's all you know to do, so it becomes hard to change that mindset.
To compare the "rush" that a ciggy gives you to what chocolate and drinking can do is the retarded part of what you said. It's different for everyone. For some it's more chemical, for others... more mental.
Just respect that they choose to do it and leave it be.

I never said nor have actively forced people to quit smoking. I just feel personally it is a bad habit and extremely unhealthy.
Heck, its not my life, and I said that in my like second post.
Seems you know a lot more than I about it so I think I understand it a bit better now. I never considered the non chemical addiction, such as the lifestyle changes.
Still, I wouldnt ever smoke. And I wouldnt consider wondering whether eating chocolate is as addictive as smoking as retarded. You were a bit too angry at that point. You could have been a bit more understanding, and less of an ass.

And now... I'm going to go out and have me a very, very drunken Friday night.
PEACE.
Caught this at the tail end of the discussion. Seriously, if he wants to reward others for basically not getting addicted to nicotine, that's his beef. If you think you're of the same caliber, if not better then even one of these non-smokers, I'd look for work elsewhere. I'm not saying you should quit right away. Take your time, smoke your smokes, do your work well so you can get a reference.
Smoking at work is the only thing that makes the work day somewhat ok. I'm sure its been said a whole bunch of times, but I just wanted to say it again, because I am going out for my first smoke break of the day riiiiight now.

More at 10.
Yeah but what I mean is in my opinion you would have to be pretty fucking retarded to smoke.
But you know, it's not my life it's yours so I don't really care.
This is terrible.

I am stone cold broke at the moment though. However, I get paid next week! Huzzah!
Do you eat chocolate?
Do you eat anyhting fried?
Do you drink alchohol at all?
Do you do anything fun that might adversely affect your heath in any way?

Are you comparing smoking to eating chocolate and having the occasional drink?
Clutch at straws much?
Hey, I don't smoke at all. Never have.
Saying you are stupid for doing something that is harmful to your health, but yet also has other benefits is a narrow minded, holier than thou view.
