OK, well, out of boredom (and then out of hype!) I read all seventeen pages of this thread. The Live Action trailer was absolutely dreadful and completely ridiculous. However the gameplay trailer was fantastic and pretty much exactly what I wanted from an MK game. I just hope that Kano (MK version) and Shang Tsung (MKII version) are around the corner. As in I don't want a laser-eye shooting Kano or an old man Shang.

Still, with the announcement of the price drop for the 360 and this game on the horizon, I am buying a 360 this week. I was a huge MKII fan back in my arcade rat days and I am not expecting a completely fair and balanced ultra competitive game so I expect that my expectations will be met.

Seems to be that none of the gaming websites have noticed that Sareena is clearly visible in the trailer for the new game.

Though I think she's only been a playable fighter in all of... oh... 2 MK games (Armageddon, and I think the GBA version of Deadly Alliance)... so probably not that popular.

Point of order: Baraka is from Outland, which is a wasteland that is a conglomerate of conquered dimensions. It's not really a hell dimension; just a crappy environment.

"Hell" would be the Netherrealm, which is a literal realm of fire and lava where demons roam and the souls of bad people go.

    'course, not like anyone cares.

EDIT: You sure that was Sareena?

    I see

    Shao Kahn vs Raiden
    Cage vs Sub-Zero
    Reptile
    Reptile vs Nightwolf
    Mileena
    Mileena vs Sub-Zero
    Kung Lao

... Oh hey, there's characters in the background of that final shot with Kung Lao. I think I see Kira .. and maybe Kitana? That could be Sareena after all.

You can also see old-man Tsung in the background shot of the first Mileena fight.

It's great when they try so hard to be mature and serious only to end up accomplishing the exact opposite. I'm sure 13 year olds will love it.

Yeah, when they still had the whole Johhny Cage is an actor turned mercinary still in there I was like "yup, still dumb".

    I think I would've been okay with a surgically-enabled human Baraka, but I don't understand the dreads-especially on a plastic surgeon.

    Maybe he's Jamaican? Don't hate.

The last shot after Lao kills Sub Zero and puts his hat back on, Sareena is clearly visible in the background. Hadn't noticed old-man Tsung though.

Interesting thought.... this game is supposed to span MK 1, 2 and 3. I wonder if we will have to fight Old Man Tsung and Goro? Or later on Kintaro and Motaro? I think Shao Khan is pretty much a given.

There's a character select screenshot from E3 that clearly shows that Scorpion is the first character on the top left. Although it doesn't show Raiden or Shao Khan. Maybe neither will be playable and they'll just be around for the lore? I would be perfectly fine with Shao Khan not being a playable character!

Also, from the other screenshots, we can see that Johnny Cage has the Torso Rip Fatality again and that Reptile has a Fatality where he spits venom/acid down the throat of his opponent. Also Sektor blows his opponent into chunks with his missles then blows those chunks into smaller chunks with more missles.

Yeah people definitely died from the fatalities in MK v DC. They just pussied out about the gore (not showing Joker's shot for example), and had the "good" DC characters do some other non-fatal finishing move, which made sense.

Though the non-fatal "Heroic Brutalities" were only non-fatal in that the character somehow miraculously survives the punished inflicted upon them, even though it's about the same as other, more fatal finishers.

Especially when your character had fullscreen fatalities and you were right next to your opponent. And they only stayed dizzy for like...3 seconds.

Basically making a classic MKII-style game and adding in EX moves, three-tier specials and keeping the combo breaker in? Yes please. And the X-ray moves sound really fun too.

That really turned around my opinion of this. I'm seeing it as less of a rehash now and more of a "Mortal Kombat Ultimates" (Not ot be confused with Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 :D)

Fatalities look really cool. A lot less goof and a lot more brutal. The x-ray attacks are a lot more effective looking than I would have given them credit for.. you really go "Ouch" when you see them, which is not something I can say for a lot of stuff in Mortal Kombat, outside of Fatalities.

The select screen seemed to have room for 26 characters, plus more through DLC, so we should get a good lineup.

Wow reptile looks as vunerable as ever with his force ball. Why do I think character like sub and scorpion will have an advantage for the super like moves. Being able to have an opponent free for a beating.

The "music" in that first video sure is something else. I mean that in a bad way.

Here's an interview which I think has gotten me more excited about the game than anything else.

    http://www.fightersgeneration.com/main.htm

    Highlights

Each character will "play differently". (I'm hoping this just means they put work into their normals, unlike previous 2D versions where they all felt kind of the same)

Tag battle looks awesome. It has assists and your second character can be switched doing an attack. This means you can start a combo and call them in with the last attack to finish it. Basically it'll allow safe switching so you don't get pummeled when a new character first comes in.

    Online:

1 vs 1 (sounds like SFIV ranked)

2 vs 2 (It sounds like this may be using the tag battle where each person controls a character. But they didn't say specifically. It could also be like SSFIV team battle mode)

Online lobbies for multiple players. People not currently playing will spectate the match.

They have the xray combo going on with johnny doing a one-two hit combo to nightwolfs' groin. Then while he is lurched over holding his said groin, johnny elbows him in the back.

It was quite pleasant to watch

Alright, after antihippy's video i am very excited for this. I was hoping reptile would be good, but im not so sure, maybe the forceball will be active earlier in its animation. 26 characters is a lot, but it means probably the entire MK2 cast plus the best Mk3 guys made it. The 3d series did introduce a few really good characters (quan chi, ermac, havik), so maybe they make the cut anyways.

Also, everyone seemed to have a lot of HP.

I didn't mind that the characters played similarly in the 2D MKs. It was a limitation of using real actors. Messing around with proportions works fine for SF but they never look right when real actors do it (ie. SF:The Move).

Now that everything's polygons, though, it would be nice to have different punches and kicks. The old games had different ranges, which people never seemed to notice, but they always felt like the same moves.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this.
