No real axe in UMK3, at least not that I remember. I know some characters had weapons that would come out during certain combos though

He just had a projectile, Scoripion's teleport punch, and a slam move. I remember thinking the slam move was bad ass when I was younger. That's probably why I liked him so much.

Now I have the urge to go and play one of the older MK games. Does anyone know if the xbla one is a decent port?

UMK3 is no longer available to buy on XBLA, due to some sort of rights issue

    MKII is available on PSN

Oh, that sucks. Oh well I guess. I don't have a PS3 as well so I guess I'll just have to get over it.

Wow that really does suck. I was telling some girl about the new MK, and she was wishing she had that to play with her kids, as she used to play MK. I told her UMK was on XBLA

I've come around on this whole thing. The original trailer was fucking garbage, but everything else I've been looking at so far has me at the much-pimped "day one". I really want to give it a spin, though. Not just so I can eat crow, but because I really want to fucking play it.

Psshhh. I was playing MK when I was 8. I mean I'm not going to knock anyone if they don't want to expose their kids to that, but hey.

Wow. Those two videos were really really good. I was actually finding myself impressed at seeing the battle damage lasting through the rounds. It was also a nice touch in the Tag Team that when one of the teammates bit it, they got knocked into the Acid Pit there. Also very very brutal. I'm pretty excited for it, now.

Really? To each their own, but I don't think the violence is bad, and I was playing it quite young when I was a kid. I'd be more worried about said kids watching MTV than playing MK.

Man I must have really missed out on the later installments of the series.
When did Reptile become a lizard man? I remember in MK2 he was just a green ninja just how I liked him

That's because Subzero, Scorpion, Reptile and Noob Sabot were basically just pallet swaps. Probably done out of necessity rather than design.

MKII is no longer available on PSN unless you've already bought it

Unlike UMK3 on XBLA however, there is still online play

This is just out of curiosity, but how was the net code for it? I own it because a bunch of friends and I were hanging out one night, saw it, and had a blast playing against each other. Then it never got touched again. I know I'll buy this, as it will be fun and looks to be going back to the roots. But as a competitive fighter, has it ever been/will it ever be? What was it like playing UMK3 or MKII online, if the net code was good.

Actually, they change color based on their mood, no matter what the surroundings.

Uh, so, how about that new MK, eh? Hope a PC version's not too much to ask for...

Was it against Barraca? I remember as a kid trying to do anything against him in MKII led to a blade slice. (B,B+P) On the consoles, that move seemed to win me a lot of matches against my friends :)

And C'mon Vergo, PC+ video games? Like that'd make money

To be honest he's looked kind of dumb for all the 3D games. He just started off looking really stupid in MK4 and has looked progressively slightly less stupid in every iteration.

It's been a while since I played Deception, but I don't remember MK ever having a dashing mechanic. Looks like they do in this new one, and it looks like each character does fight a little bit differently, unlike the older MKs, where every character was the same besides their supers and fatalities.

Here's hoping they don't fuck up the netcode. GGPO preferably, but even if it's on par with SSFIV, I can live with that.

Exactly this. Reptile is my favorite character, and i preferred him when he blended in with the humans, and only briefly revealing that he actually was a reptile.

When you beat MK4 with Reptile, he demands to go back to his people, and then Shinnok vaporizes him. This is immediately after you defeated Shinnok. Poor reptile, always getting dumped on by midway.

That was just about the most pathetic ending in the whole game. You win the game and you get killed. Great?

That game was so horrible on so many levels.

I love the sound Jarek makes when he falls.

Also, the truly terrible part about that ending is that it's Sonya's and Jarek's ending as well. Just, Sonya's ending ends with a radio conversation and she doesn't get tossed off, and Jarek's ending cuts off after he smashes the walkie talkie.

Assuming you're talking about the original MK you're all a little older than me. I was 7 when I played my first Mortal Kombat. It was MK2 on the Genesis. I will say it was the game that got my parents to learn the ratings system.

    Hmmm....

Watching the demo battles a few pages back, one thing caught my eye. I'm sure they're not even close to deciding the final layout for the character selection screen, but I noticed the bottom corners-bottom left, the always-dependable 'Random', but bottom right was a face icon marked 'DLC'.

Which can't help but make me think about post-launch character additions to the roster. I know this is game's sort of a Star Trek-style reboot, where Midway (or whatever we call them now) have to just nail who's in and who ain't for a definitive lineup spanning apparently the first three games, but I personally wouldn't mind some of the more inventive but well-design characters from later on making an appearance, like, say, Drahmin:

    http://mortalkombat.wikia.com/wiki/Drahmin

Definitely not someone I'd expect to see in this game, but a more than acceptable DLC supplement.
