BBC: Cocaine worth $1bn seized in The Gambia
At least two tonnes of cocaine with a street value of some $1bn has been seized in The Gambia, bound for Europe.

In addition to the huge haul of drugs, the Gambian authorities have arrested a dozen suspected traffickers, and seized large quantities of cash and arms.

    2 tonnes @ $1B = $500M per tonne = $226,808.8 per pound or $498,951.607 per kilogram or $498.95 per gram.

Hypothesis: Someone at the BBC has no idea how much drugs cost, and not a minute to check their facts.

Fact: US and other sources quote the street price of cocaine at around $50/gram.

Conclusion: I need to start selling cocaine to the BBC.

Isn't the street price the price of cocaine after it's cut to something like 1/5th it's strength?

Me and my brother routinely have loud arguments about the relative merits of Apple technology. I am extremely skeptical anything will actually be used by people, whereas he routinely is proclaiming that all his problems will be solved shortly.

Of course it's a different piece of technology each week, all of them cost a bunch of money he doesn't have, and he still uses a computer with Windows 7 and mostly Microsoft development tools, office applications etc.

The problem is in the drugs industry that doesn't sound like a totally ludicrous amount. I mean, there's a reason people go into it despite it being illegal.

I heard that there was a not-insignificant number of people returning their iPads, because they were expecting it to do more than it could.

I also heard this from my father, who spouts opinions about things as if they were facts and vehemently defends them until I ask for a reference. *shrug*

Hey! Come back here with my goal posts!

I didn't move shit and you know it.

My comparison was made in the top.

It's pretty clear the Wii was a huge hit for Nintendo, and pretty much prints money for them.

It's just not actually a particularly good gaming platform.

    The analogy shoudl be obvious.

It's just not actually a particularly good gaming platform.

That depends on the definition of gaming platform. I contend that it's a very successful casual gaming platform.

I'm not really sure the Wii is defensible mang. At least not as far as we are interested in it.

And really I would argue that even its casual games suck. I can dig me some casual games. I love to hang back with some bejeweled and a web browse game now and then. But almost nothing on the wii appeals to me. Casual shouldn't mean bad.

Sort of like how kids movies shouldn't mean only kids should like them.
