Remember how we had Greenberg saying how Halo 3 outsold a bunch of PS3 games like God of War, Uncharted 1 + 2 among others? Well Sony responds:
PS3 hardware’s performing strongly then, but how do you feel first party PS3 software’s doing? Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg suggested yesterday that Halo 3 has outsold a large number of PS3 games – including the Uncharted and Resistance franchises - combined, based on NPD figures.
Well I’m really happy with them because as I said, we’re selling more than we ever have done before. Secondly, I’m not too fussed about the competitive bits or people’s comments because at the end of the day, I’ve only got my focus, and that is giving consumers a great experience and great content and I don’t care what anybody else does. If we are doing that and if we are measured by the enjoyment and the engagement that we have with our consumers and we can have a successful business then that’s what it will be. Our DNA is about innovation and giving people technology that they didn’t even realise they needed at the time and about pushing the envelope.

I'm pretty sure Twitter's limit exists due to SMS limits.

Edit: Okay, I thought they were the same, but SMS is actually limited to 160, not 140.

No, that's right. Twitter reserves 20 characters for the username.

No no, giving people technology they didn't realize they needed is a good thing. When it actually happens.

When marketing people say that, though, I think they really mean they are using marketing mind games to convince people they need something that they don't really need, by inaccurately comparing it to things they needed but didn't realize they needed.

    Or something.

    Edit:

But wait, I'm a volunteer license examiner with ARRL/VEC. Me plus two more VE's can merge and form Voltron. Well, form a license examination, which is one of Voltron's more boring forms.

So what does that make me? Microsoft? The register biscuit that sells you an Xbox Live membership card? I don't know. :-P

No. At the very least, it is a huge failure on the part of the marketing because the marketing should make them "realize" they need the technology.

Maybe that's what happened. They sent someone back in time after the PS3 being the most successful game console ever, that guy told them how successful it was, and they got all arrogant and started prematurely claiming they were the video game industry, falling flat on their faces and creating an alternate reality.

No. What had happened was Microsoft bought Nintendo as expected. And combined, the only thing they could create successfully against the SONY juggernaut was a one time, one way device.

So they did study after study and discovered the right moment in which to place the right person to make the change to more evenly balance out the marketplace. However, it was a long term project and involved a singular devotion to the cause.

Come on, Sony. Competitive analysis IS important. If you don't understand your place in the market, how will you convince the people who fund "giving consumers a great experience and great content" that they should keep funding it?

We know you care about this. Issuing press releases like this which suggest you don't insults our intelligence, and elevates a trivial super-minority "console fanboy" argument to center stage.

For what it's worth, CNBC are reporting the top 10 selling games in the US of 2010 so far. They don't provide any specific US figures though and I think the few worldwide figures are just based off publishers press releases (FFXIII selling 5.5 million for example).

I'll just post the GAF summary cause a lot of the text is pretty worthless.
    1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (14.7 million worldwide)
    2. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (14 million worldwide)
    3. Battlefield: Bad Company 2
    4. Final Fantasy XIII (5.5 million worldwide)
    5. Wii Fit Plus
    6. God Of War III
    7. Pokemon SoulSilver Version (8.4 million combined worldwide)
    8. Wii Sports Resort
    9. Mass Effect 2 (1.6 million worldwide)
    10. Pokemon HeartGold Version (8.4 million combined worldwide)

I did say that they did a study on when to send him back. You see, in the old future, Nintendo and SONY did partner together. It became so famous that SONY first bought Nintendo (until divesting themselves of the non-video game bits which MS picked up in a desperate move to gain some 'street cred' in Japan) and maintained a stranglehold on the industry. Until The Experiment was a success.

Ken almost failed early on however... The key was to keep the partnership from happening and thus ensure the balance. Or at least a more level playing field. Why do you think SONY helped fund the development of the 360?

Actually, that chart may conflate the issue some more. The March numbers actually place GoW3 at 1.1M vs silver's 1.02M. So, nintendo must have rolled in some of the 63k more units silver sold in april to make that chart look better, so we can't really tell that much about the other stuff other than that, barring a massive upset in the unreleased May numbers, Silver really should be beating GoW3. And somehow BF:BC2 managed to climb a massive upset in the same period...

It looks like Microsoft is already flexing their star power for their upcoming Project ‘Natal’ press conference featuring Cirque De Soleil with Jennette McCurdy best known for playing the role of Sam Puckett on Nickelodeon show iCarly. Straight from her Twitter account:

“I’m really excited to be co-hosting the Project Natal Xbox event Sunday featuring a Cirque De Soleil performance. E3! Woohoo!”

Oddly enough, the circus act is coming full-circle because Nintendo launched the Nintendo 64 at E3 back in 1996 with Cirque du Soleil performers, and this year Microsoft is launching Project Natal with Cirque du Soleil performers.

Even last year Microsoft had two Beatles present the fantastic game The Beatles: Rockband with enough enthusiasm they could muster. Let’s see if that McCurdy can win the Microsoft gaming press over. ‘WooHoo!’ indeed Jennette.
What. So they are going to host the show with a child actor while using performers in the most gay circus acts possible.

What. So they are going to host the show with a child actor while using performers in the most gay circus acts possible.

MS are entering Sony levels of dumb here. I mean c'mon...really. Yup because a gay circus and iCarly are supposed to make people want Natal. Are they trying to out stupid Nintendo's M. Night Shamalamadingdong WiiMusic conference? O_o

But... but... Hanna Montana PSP is so much more mature than all that kiddie stuff on the DS!

Seriously though, it's kind of amusing to see this kind of thing after all the crap Sony & Microsoft have given Nintendo for it in the past...

...Is iCarly even popular? I mean, I've never even heard of this Jennette McCurdy girl and they're calling it "star power".

I guess MS didn't want to spring the extra money at the actual star of iCarly and instead opted for the cheaper supporting cast.

Edit: If my daughter is anything to go by, then yes, iCarly is super kewl!

the idea is to get people to watch so they can hawk their product. Unfortunately, combining a bunch of random popular shit together does not work. The people who like the children's TV show are not the same people who like that circus.

They should just complete the circle, and hire Jamie Kennedy to make "jokes" at their conference.

My 5 year-old niece and 8 year-old nephew are obsessed with the show. When its on, they're dead to the world.

It isn't technically part of E3.

Laprise, citing the need to surprise his audience as well as airtight confidentiality agreements with Microsoft, would speak only broadly about the show's themes.

"It's a story about humanity, about a quest and about overcoming obstacles," he said. "In history, there have been discoveries that have made us leap forward as a civilization. But those technologies demanded that we master their language, the language of machines. This time, it's the machine that's adapting. The human is at the center, doing what comes naturally. Moving, jumping, talking. And it's up to the machine to interpret what that means."
This is going to be fucking hilarious.
