i would be excited if there was any chance in hell of some dreamcast games that im interested in getting released. the odds of mars matrix or border down being on the list seem pretty damn low to me though.
I always start off sucking at the game until I have some practice and hit my groove. Then I can Jet everything easily. I only needed a guide for the jetpack level...and anyone who has played the game knows there's no shame in that.
I hate Future though. I have no idea how they made it so bad, when they could have just kept the game exactly the same and just given it more levels and more music.
If you only have an Xbox, your alternatives are to buy another console, to emulate them or to get them on Live.
I can't wait to have another excuse to go through Sonic Adventure again
This news really excites people? All the good Dreamcast games are already available to most of the population on other consoles.
My dreamcast is in a box somehwere, with an Svideo connector that I'm not even sure my current TV has. Plus, I can only find one controller, and one VMU which I'm not even sure the battery will hold saved games for anymore. There are some definate gems on that system I'd buy in a heartbeat.... POWERSTONE PLEASE!!!!!!
You don't need to have a working battery in your VMU to store saves, you just need one (two, actually, cr2032s that you can buy at most department stores, the same battery used for most watches and CMOS on PCs and consoles) to turn the VMU on to do file transfers between two VMUs, or play VMU games. When you turn the system on your VMU will beep (actually, it's more like a horrific shriek) if the battery is dead.
Having eight VMUs in four controllers while firing up Quake III is an ear-destroying symphony of destruction.
I still have friends on my Xbox live friends list that I met through the sega dreamcast playing NFL2k1. Believe it or not, Gamefaqs didn't always suck. We had a pretty good league going, with some pretty good people. Best console that never succeeded
Isn't it a little impressive to look back and realize we were playing games online "long ago" on a console THROUGH A FUCKING DIALUP MODEM and 95% of the time it worked!
Hell I still have my keyboard and mouse for the Dreamcast - cause rememeber - that console actually HAD a web browser.
My kingdom for remakes or ports of the Shenmue games. Hell, I'd probably trade a kidney for Shenmue III.
Maybe they can release Shenmue 1 and 2 as a package deal, and actually implement the data file carry-over between the two like they intended before S2 became an Xbox game over here (ie. you'd start the game with all the learned moves and collectables you earned from the original, as opposed to what they gave you from the start in the Xbox version).
Seeing that JGR video on the previous page just makes me kind of sad, though - that game had style, identity, the kind of moxie that's missing from games these days. Sonic Adventure had its low points, sure, but damn if it wasn't balls-out crazy in what it was trying to do, from the music to the goofy-as-hell story. The fact that Sonic's theme was a friggin' rock anthem blew my mind back then; and this coming from somebody who's used to Sonic Team's theatrical flair (I like to compare them to the Disney of video game developers, always coming up with original music and stuff like that for each of their releases). Then you had games like Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 5, Blue Stinger, Power Stone - the Dreamcast was the system for pure fun in the previous console generation. I think that's why people look back on it so fondly.
My 4th DC just died, and I will attempt my 4th ressurection. I made a tissue box out of the last dead one.
But because I have zero tech skills, I went out immediately and grabbed a used one ($30!). Seaman, Samba de Amigo, Power Stone 2 (1 is scratched to hell), Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Blue Stinger, Illbleed, Unreal Tournament, Space Channel 5, Jet Grind Radio, Chu Chu Rocket - and MOST OF ALL - Fur Fighters - still get played on a semi regular basis by my family.

Crazy Taxi is the #1 game I want on Live right now. My wife doesn't play many games, but she loved CT back in the day, apparently. It'll be soooooo nice to play it without those god-awful triggers on the DC controller. Those things hurt after a while.
BTW, holy shit, iPhone is getting ChuChu Rocket??! YES!!! I never owned the full version, just the demo that came on some promo disc with the web browser. Oh man, that's awesome.

JSRF just isn't that fun.. getting rid of the paint combos was silly, as was separating the spray and chase phases, instead of having to spray while getting chased. There's something I can't quantify there, too. No idea what, but the game just wasn't enjoyable.

You're telling me. I was in great lakes IL for bootcamp/A school when I got my dreamcast (well Waukegan actually. Got married, got an appartment) And was signed up for seganet (It was free for like a year, they never started charging. I was using netzero in my apartment for my internet) and it was the most amazing thing ever.
As for the webbrowser, I remember 3-4 years later, deciding whether to hook up my xbox or PS2 online, I didn't have a PC at the time, and was amazed neither one had a net browser. The DC was truly ahead of its time.
I remember when I was stationed in sicily, and playing Phantasy star with my nephew. And many other DC games over the net. It truly was amazing.
Sega has had their shit of fuckups, but they have pioneered a lot of things, and their competition with other consoles helped others succeed (madded was a better game when 2K was kicking their ass. 2K5 is still my favorite football game, and now madden is sloppy and lazy IMO)
I still hope that some day sega will get back into the console business. Evidently they're still losing money just selling games though. Not surprising when you look at some sonics. I have a feeling my fondest gaming memories will always go back to the DC. The lil system that could, yet failed

Yeah it just has none of the tension of the original. Getting rid of the chases in favour of walled of arenas was an awful design decision. Finishing off a wall with seconds to spare before the police jumps you or finishing a level just before the time runs out was fun. You almost can't fail in JSRF (even the spraying was dumbed down), it's just so sedate.
I think Professor K felt the same way: he is way more excitable and has better lines in the original.
I never played the second Shenmue. What a disappointment of a series, though... Weren't they supposed to have 8 Shenmue games? The first one was the most amazing thing I'd ever played (obviously). That game was a masterpiece of art and interactivity. I'd like to play Shenmue 2. Powerstone is probably an eyesore at this point, though it was ridiculously fun.

Shenmue 2 is okay, but the first is better. 2's just going to set you up for an epic continuation that's never going to happen.

While it was supposed to be 8 games, I believe part one was part one, and part 2 was like 2-4 or some shit like that in their original plan. Shenmue was fucking amazing.. yeah some of it was tedius at time, but just like the DC, way ahead of its time. Some of the gameplay sucked, but most was awesome. Great world, possibly story, and interactivity. Some hated waiting till certain times, but I'd screw off at the arcades, talking to the people, or racing forklifts

All of a sudden I feel like playing 1 n 2.
Completely agree with this entire post. This game was welllll ahead of it's time, and the creativity involved still amazes me. I'm surprised there hasn't been a similar, episodic content version of this game yet. It could easily be done and play out much like any movie story would. I still recall all of the material they were proposing before the first even hit retail, it made me excited for gaming again when the playstation industry was inundated with carbon copy sequels.

PS2, all it was (at the time, I will admit amazing games, great system) was FF10 CGI that claimed to be real time graphics. It took them a good 2 years to overcome the DC

Very wrong!
-Rival Schools: Project Justice
-Last Blade 2: Heart of the Samurai (unless you're crazy rich and own a Neo Geo)
-Garou: Mark of the Wolves(same)
-Maken X (PS2 version sucks)
-Grandia 2 (PS2 version sucks)
Heck, any PS2 converted game was probably better on the DC.
I'm getting the odd impression that people have different tastes. And yet, all of them are absolute.
Also, keep in mind that what's making the port to XBL are SEGA made games. So expansive lists of all that was good and right with the system (I've seen greatest hits lists that suggest about 25 or so 'must have games') is just going to be petty arguing in this particular thread.
In other words: You're both right. No need to get silly about it.

There are a bunch of DC exclusives, and there are a bunch of multiplatform games where the DC version is the definitive version. It's pretty dumb to dismiss an entire console's library down to six games.
I always thought it was interesting how the Xbox was about as close as we could get to a Dreamcast 2 without there being an actual Dreamcast 2. Pretty much every major Sega Franchise that saw a post-DC release except for Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter ended up on the Xbox.

The Xbox S controller feels like using a DC, right down to the colors. Also had a lot of great quirky games.
Maken X is about as obscure as they come, but it was made by R&D1: the Shin Megami Tensei developers.

There are plenty of third party PS1 games on the PSN store. I'm not saying we should ever expect anything other than first party Sega Dreamcast games, but odds are there wouldn't be anything expressly prohibiting it other than the conversion and QA costs involved.
Then again, I don't know what sort of licensing went on between Sega and the developers of DC games themselves - that sort of thing is pretty easily handled with PS1 games, since that was Sony.
edit: Yeah, the Duke was basically a giant ripoff of the DC pad, but with an extra stick. The S always felt like a mixture between the DC pad and a Sidewinder to me.

Alright I concede. I wasn't a big fan of the DC so I guess that's why. Maybe one or two games on there were good to me, but otherwise I was pretty glad to see it fail. This could be why this news only slightly excites me, depending on what games we actually get.

That might also be true. But I was also a pretty die-hard Nintendo fanboy when the DC was out. So to see Nintendo's greatest competitor (*cough*) fall through was a pretty big WIN in my book.
