Alright I concede. I wasn't a big fan of the DC so I guess that's why. Maybe one or two games on there were good to me, but otherwise I was pretty glad to see it fail. This could be why this news only slightly excites me, depending on what games we actually get.
So basically you're saying that you never really liked the system, don't know much about the software library, and don't understand why people would be excited that some of it's games are being re-released?
Hmmm.
So basically you're one of the people from the year 2000 who didn't know anything about the Dreamcast, but still hated it just because.
Do you know anyone who has one? If you ever get around to actually playing one for a bit you might change your mind.
I own one that works perfectly. I was also a bit of a collector. :P

You have no soul.
That might also be true. But I was also a pretty die-hard Nintendo fanboy when the DC was out. So to see Nintendo's greatest competitor (*cough*) fall through was a pretty big WIN in my book.
I'll admit, I stopped being a Nintendo fanboy when SEGA started going nuts trying to Frankenstein every new console they made to each other. Around that time, the PSX emerged and Square officially announced FFVII exclusively to Sony. I knew where my gaming dollars were going from then on.
Dreamcast didn't interest me much at all, except for Phantasy Star Online and the amazing Soul Calibur port. And Space Channel 5...

I feel sorry for those who missed out on the Dreamcast, it was like a love letter to 90s style gaming full of blue blue skies arcade goodness with easy controls and games that get going immediately. It felt like every week there was a great new game coming out or being announced. Even with the PS2 release looming it was a time of real optimism.
The controller for the DC was great, except the Dpad. Holy shit the Dpad on the DC is infinitely worse than the 360. Which makes it near impossible to put in codes like "up up down down" etc.

Also the fucking cord comes out the bottom
What the fuck was that shit
They even had a clip on the back so you could make it come out the top so even they knew it was horseshit
This news really excites people? All the good Dreamcast games are already available to most of the population on other consoles.
Welcome to Wrongville
Population: urahonky
Oh c'mon. :P
The only good games were: Powerstone (although I hated the game), Sonic Adventure, Shenmue, JSRF, Ikaruga, Resident Evil: Code Veronica.... That's it, right? All those games are available on other consoles except Shenmue, but really I don't think that game has aged well at all.
JSR on the DC and JSRF on the oXBox are actally different games entirely. It's not a port, but a sequel. So JSR is still only available on DC. Also, while Power Stone 2 (awesome game) is techincally available for another console, I say it doesn't count since it's the PSP. That game practically requires a big screen just to tell what's going on.
EDIT: I'm trying to ignore the Future hate in this thread. I definitely agree that the original JSR is a better game overall, but there are a lot of things I dig about JSRF. The speed, the bigger areas to skate, the optional challenges. Sometimes I'm in the mood for something more relaxed and open.
Also, I think part of the excitement over these old games hitting Live is that they'll be in HD. I don't care how many Wiis you duct-tape together, they can't render Sonic Adventure 2 in 720p.
You know... I just realized that I haven't played Code Veronica in forever. And I won't be able to, as my DC is missing cords, I have no VMU and... I probably don't even have the game anymore. Who knows where that went? I can't believe there isn't a version available for download on the PSN.
In fact, how is it possible that the entire series isn't available for digital download yet? Isn't 5 even on the list of downloadable games for the 360?
Meanwhile... yeah, the DC was really best at being an "arcade-at-home" machine. And it was glorious.
-Rival Schools: Project Justice
-Last Blade 2: Heart of the Samurai (unless you're crazy rich and own a Neo Geo)
-Garou: Mark of the Wolves(same)
-Maken X (PS2 version sucks)
-Grandia 2 (PS2 version sucks)
Heck, any PS2 converted game was probably better on the DC.
Except the Dreamcast version of Garou had the shitty sound issues.
I've never played the original or the sequel and it always looked pretty neat
I want it to come to XBL and be called Jet Grind Radio just to piss off the purists.
Anyway, as hard as it might be, you're probably better off finding a oXbox copy of JSRF. The differences should make that much of a...difference...to most people.

The PS1 versions of Resident Evil 1-3 are available on the PSN for $10, $6, and $6 respectively. That's about as far as it goes. Code Veronica is also available on the PS2, but it's not as good as the DC version.
They should make a Tokyo Bus Guide sequel that is basically Crazy Taxi with buses.

Every RE is on the DC except for the first, and you can get that on the Saturn. :P So technically Sega has all the best versions of RE.
Except for the fact that when you're sitting down with the controller in a normal position it's better to have it come from the bottom, so it's not just drooping down over the top anyway.
Here's a thought: if Valkyria Chronicles had cameos by Skies of Arcadia's lead trio, if we ever get a sequel to Skies - a pipe dream, yes, but one I'd like to entertain nonetheless - would that mean getting some VC squaddies as cameos in that?
I only say this because Skies of Arcadia was an awesome game and if any Dreamcast RPG needed more love on XBLA, it would be this one. I played through Legends last year and it was every bit as fun and satisfying as my first go on the DC.
I actually liked PSO better than PSU. I used to go over to my friend's house and play it all the time.
Is that odd?
Heck no.
PSU is a pretty bad game in many areas. I could go into detail about it forever, so I'm not gonna get started.
Its designer, Sakai, has literally stated in the Famitsu article unveiling PSPortable2 Infinity that they keep adding in more PSO content with every new iteration of PSU because they "miss PSO's fans".
Personally I think the basics of PSU were so flawed that it doesn't matter how much they try to polish it -- a polished turd is still a steamer.
Though I don't see it happening due to the need for servers, I would like to see PSO show up most of all. Beyond that maybe Puzzle Bobble 4.

I'm damned good with a Dreamcast controller.
But I also have just about every fighting game on the Dreamcast, so maybe I just adapted a bit.
Still hate the 360 pad though.

Don't get me wrong, the controller was awesome except the D-Pad. Having to type in those "up up down down" codes got near impossible to do with the D-Pad... And would be impossible with the joystick.

Also, Sega had Treasure.
Best four player deathmatch game ever.

If you did though, you probably had fun.
And rollerblading spray painting games. Man, I loved Jet Set Radio.
And Resident Evil: Code Veronica was fantastic.
Where did the VMUs go, again?

Weren't most of them re-released for the Gamecube as well?
Along with 0 and 4 coming out for it first.

Code Veronica is in contention with RE:0 as the worst in the series. Combined, those two dragged the plot into terribly-written-anime territory.
Also shocking how well the graphics of JSR have held up. Still a blast to play as well.
Into the top of the controller. Or in your pocket if you loaded a Chao from Sonic Adventure on to it.
Does not matter
They could have made the cord come out the top anyway
THEY COULD HAVE MADE IT NOT AWFUL

I remember buying RE:CV on release. Loved the graphics and gameplay, but yeah, the story got pretty silly. I never did beat it.
Screw powerstone 1 and 2. You know why? MVC2 HDR, SS2HDR, SSF4, MvC3, this has to mean powerstone 3 is coming right?
I loved the powerstone games. Even when I owned them on DC, I'd still plop down quarters at the arcade. I'm surprised theres no clone out there.
I only say this because Skies of Arcadia was an awesome game and if any Dreamcast RPG needed more love on XBLA, it would be this one. I played through Legends last year and it was every bit as fun and satisfying as my first go on the DC.
Let us not forget about Typing of the Dead.
Also I will part with vast sum's of money for powerstone 2. My dreamcast is dead and I need a fix.
