But then I saw the writing and it's been so long since I played a good JRPG (I was a fiend for them back in the snes through playstation 1/2 era).
This looks like it'll be well worth it.
*edit*
Did you guys do all the sprite work? It looks fantastic.
Yeah, we did EVERYTHING. I (Robert Boyd) did the design, coding, and writing, Slash000 (Bill Stiernberg) did all of the graphics, animation, and map designs, and Gordon McNeil did all the music. All in all 3 people made the game (although we had some help from others with debugging and playtesting).
That is really, really amazing. And if I'm not mistaken it was a pretty short turnaround too? Jeez, you must be sleep deprived haha.
Bought it but won't be able to start playing until Sunday. Looking forward to it!
Sleep deprived is right. I'm still tired from the past week and I got a good night's rest last night. Other than doing a quick bug patch for any major issues that people discover in the first week, I'm taking a break for a couple weeks.
Oh and we got our first bit of sales data:
12/30
897 sales
1927 trials
Conversation Rate of 46.55%.
Keep in mind that because of the way that Microsoft counts days (GMT), CSTW was only up on the marketplace for about 9 hours that day (it went up around 5 am Pacific Time). So the 31st should be even better since we'll have a full day to get sales.
The nice thing is that with about 900 sales, we'll probably nab the #1 Top Downloads spot for XBLIG and this is despite our game being $3 when most of the games on the service are $1.
Not going to happen. Too expensive (at least 3 or 4 thousand dollars for the dev kit & ESRB rating), too much work, and other markets like the PC and mobile phone are much more lucrative.
But really, cj, you should have a 360 by now. You love RPGs and you love shmups. The 360 is easily the best shmup system of all time (besides the awesome stuff on XBLA & the occasional retail release like Death Smiles, XBLIGs gets like an awesome shmup or two EVERY SINGLE WEEK) and the RPG selection isn't shabby either.

You hate the live setup but you're okay with the psn?
With its horrible online interface, no party chat, shitty servers, ass backwards store that is confusing as hell to navigate and being generally awful?
I mean live aint great ESP since the NXE patch making indie games impossible to fin but seriously does psn suck

I bought that special edition controller exclusively to improve my Galaga Legions game. That new D-pad is delicious.
It works, but that game still kicks my ass. It's Ikaruga tough. As in, I get Game Over on Stage 3, just like Ikaruga.

Can anyone help me figure out where I can buy the game? I've been searching for some time on my dashboard but I cannot find it

You should seriously look into a Windows Phone 7 version. From what little bit I've heard its not too hard to port over (outside of managing controls, which would be easy for an RPG like this) since it uses the same XNA framework. As long as you can get it as a "Xbox Live" game, you're sure to sell a ton, as the Live games tend to sell far and away better than non live games, probably due to achievement points. I know that "Twin Blades" one of the XBLIG is a "Xbox Live" game on WP7 so its possible.
Would definitely triple-dip on any of your games if you did.
@Aegeri - there is always the option to create an account with a location in a non-restricted country. It´s usually not the fault of MS by the way - most countries don´t allow videogames that are not officially rated. And indies are rated by the dev community, so that does not count.
So any idea when we can expect a PC release for BoD and Cthulhu?
My goal is to get it done by the end of Feb. First time I've done something like this so I could be off on that estimate, though.
I don't know how much longer the 360 will be a viable game platform for me to be using all the time, but I'll have ready access to a PC for the conceivable future. Once you get them out on computotrons, I'm an instabuy on this jazz
Cthulhu Saves the World is a great title, and is definitely thebest XBLIG turn based RPG at this time. Any self-titled RPG fan owes it to themselves to indulge in this title, and enjoy it for all they can. While not a title for every gamer, this is everything that makes RPGs great, and at $3 it is such a steal!
I actually sorta like how confusing the maps are. It felt slightly Cthullu-esque.
Though with the limited forced random battles I find I don't care anywhere near as much. If I'm having trouble navigating I'll just start spamming the fight command until I've shown the locals that you don't fuck with Cthullu.
Got out a while ago. Any chance of a sequel if this does well?
Well the Cthulhu story is complete with the end of this game, so there won't be a story-sequel to this. Our next game will probably have a lot of new gameplay elements that differ from BODVII and CSTW. However, some time in the indeterminate future, and after our next project, we will probably do another game in this sort of style. How well CSTW does sales-wise will have an impact on where we take this as a business though.
About 20 minutes in, loving the humor/gameplay again! Are IPhone games a different programming language? I could see you guys making a killing on the app store.

Great job once again guys!
It's coded in C#/XNA which is XBLIG/Windows/WP7 friendly. iPhone apps are written Objective C. I think there might actually be a framework to port XNA stuff to the iPhone though called Monotouch:

If it weren't for that, I'd have bought the console just for Deathsmiles.

That ought to work unless you're in a country that doesn't have XBLIGs.

So disappointed. I have never been able to fathom idiotic region restrictions for downloadable games and similar.

Never used it though, not sure how much effort it would take them to port. Would be very cool though.
Mono just takes care of the C#, so they would have to port all their XNA stuff.
Or use this when it's ready http://code.google.com/p/monoxna/
Question, is there a way to look up quests I've received? It said I got one in the first town and I want to remember where to go if I get back to it.
