There's the aforementioned windows clipping issue, but you can also walk into the ball of yarn on the table in the top right of that room. Quite a few treasure chests can be stepped into.
Astral Cave 3 seems buggy as well. It has one chest that I cannot open, plus beating the Black Hole boss doesn't seem to give you the Master Hilt. It just disappears.
There's also some glitches with the soft reset. I used the soft reset during the aliens beaming up the cow scene, then reloaded my game and every person I talked with had the cow theme and scene in the background. I wonder how many soft reset exploits there could be...hmm...
Loving the game and the music, and I'm taking a break before tackling the end game.

Basically it would be a pain in the ass.
Yah the only one that would be particularly easy would be WP7. Which I have (Which may or may not be part of the reason I suggested they look into a mobile version for that)
I'm really surprised you don't have a US silver Live account Aegeri. I am pretty certain that is all you would need to buy this and download it to your xbox. Once it is on your box for any account all the accounts on it can use it, regardless of region silliness.
Hmm....I've never spent funny money on something out of region, even then, that shouldn't pose a serious problem.
Bought BoD VIII to support the homies, but didn't play it very far. Too old school for me. This looks more up my alley. Will buy to support for sure, and can't wait to check it out. Good luck with this.
Has anyone found any secrets or noteworthy easter eggs (beyond the parody-driven ones)?
Anyone beaten Highlander mode?
Where can we talk about this stuff without spoiling the crap out of everything? I am also curious about the most popular and effect party/skill combos. I actually found that my best party is the original four.
Umi has great offense (FLOOD) and the best boss debuffers along with being a good healer. I couldn't not use her.
I'm really surprised you don't have a US silver Live account Aegeri.
I had no idea I could do this. Also I have a credit card so funny money is not an issue, hooray! Do I have to do anything special to make a silver US account?

You just need an email address and a valid US zip code. I have accounts for the UK and Japan, and by SHEER COINCIDENCE, my UK account apparently lives in Abbey Road Studios.

Anyway I'm still experimenting myself with the various party members, trying to find a good balance. Although I see some players that will change up their party based on the situation, but I've only just acquired the 5th party member so I'm still experimenting.

Okay here we go then
DUNGEONS
Are there any secret areas/caves that people have found? I know some of the option caves are out there - and I think one is accessible only once you have the Dragon. But the completionist in me is dying to know if I missed anything.
ITEMS
It seems like most of the items are pretty cut and dry upgrades over whatever you're carrying - like BoD but with a bit more in terms of options for elemental effects and such. Any plans to publish an items/location list so we can see what it takes to be fully pimped?
SPELLS/TECHS
I liked how even later levels granted some fairly unique abiliteis. Especially for Cthulhu himself with those H.P. style abilties. But even then, I found myself relying on the same spells/strategy in most battles. For me my best bet was almost always Tenticles, Flood, Multistrike, and then Tempest. Since I focused on getting the most out of those spells, there was no reason to switch it up unless I found a boss or unique fight.
CHARACTERS
I loved Umi despite her being a little fragile. Her Flood spell was quite strong towards the end and was easily doing the most dmg per character. Sharpe was my combo and boss finisher (Sharpen is awesome) as he could deal the most dmg to any one character (and also played the best tank role) and October was my back up mass dmg dealer especially when Umi was healer or debuffing. Some of October's whips actually made her a decent melee fighter too.
I didn't find much use for Paws although he did seem to be the most agile and with some HP/MP. The Dragon just seemed like a fairly standard "soldier class" with underpowered spells (compared to Umi and October) and not quite as strong as Sharpe. The Cleric guy had some great spells and his mass-Seal spell was key in that one dungeon, but I found that I could heal with Umi/Potions just fine without him.
One thing that's worth noting with characters is that each character has a unite move with each other character. So a character that might seem less useful might become more useful with the right character in the party with them.
I kinda wish there were more than just names for the Unite attacks.
While Tentacles! is pretty self-explanatory some of them could use a little elaboration.
I like how some of them seem useless until you think about it. Witches Familiar? I don't care about his magic. Wait a minute, Regen All is keyed off of his magic....
Is there a listing anywhere, either in game or otherwise, of what Level Up path choices are available to each character? I love the fact that you can customize and have to make choices about where you want each character to go, but for future playthoughs, it'd be nice to have a better sense of how I'd like to steer each character's growth.
I have a spreadsheet with all the LV-Up info, but I'd have to clean it up a bit if I was making it public. Maybe I'll release it later if no one's made a FAQ with that info by then.
Anyway I'm still experimenting myself with the various party members, trying to find a good balance. Although I see some players that will change up their party based on the situation, but I've only just acquired the 5th party member so I'm still experimenting.
Okay here we go then
Post mortem analysis:
DUNGEONS
From what I recall there were four special side dungeons (ice, graveyard, swamp, astral), and then there's the super-secret legendary hero battle.
ITEMS
Fairly straightforward, but there were a few really good items worth hanging on to. For example, Cthulhu's CURSE SWORD means insta-insanity for all enemies, which means way more extra damage for Umi's FLOOD, while she has the Dkwater Trident (Water +50%) and Swim Dress (Water +50%) and the Water +50% level up option. I liked Paws' ROCKET CLAW as well since RANDOM ATTACKS actually means huge damage against the single remaining target. October was really the only one with customizability with her tomes, but I just basically went with the flow and used whichever area attack was boosted.
SPELLS/TECHS
FLOOOOOOOD all day long. Experience with BoD teaches you to allocate stats to Agility, Strength, and Magic accordingly, and boosted Magic Umi means random battles were cakewalk. For bosses I liked the Kraken-Armageddon-RainOfFire-Poison combo to build damage and combo per turn, plus Cthulhu's strength-boosted BERSERK and Sharpe's strength-boosted BLADE DANCE were nice as well.
CHARACTERS
I used Cthulhu-Umi-October-Paws for random encounters, and Cthulhu-Umi-Sharpe-Dacre for bosses. Random encounters were FLOOD'd and FIREBALL'd and ROCKET CLAW'd to death. Bosses ate the Kraken-Armageddon-RainOfFire-Poison combo along with BERSERK and BLADE DANCE, while Dacre REGEN'd and buffed until he got HOLY.
Overall it felt a bit too similar to BoD instead of standing out. It even felt like it had the same level up options. I still prefer BoD overall for the originality and music (I miss you tropical victory theme), but CStW was great too. You know BoD was good when you hear the music in the super-secret boss area and go "yessssssss".
Is there a listing anywhere, either in game or otherwise, of what Level Up path choices are available to each character? I love the fact that you can customize and have to make choices about where you want each character to go, but for future playthoughs, it'd be nice to have a better sense of how I'd like to steer each character's growth.
It's nice to have a kind of surprise and have to make decisions about the character growth at each level, rather than being able to plot it out ahead of time, but of course you're referring to subsequent playthroughs which it might be cool to have :P Incidentally iirc someone made a FAQ containing that info for BODVII, or maybe it was a suggested-build faq. Can't remember precisely but I believe he said he was preparing a similar one for CSTW once he gets through the game a few times.
Anyway I'm still experimenting myself with the various party members, trying to find a good balance. Although I see some players that will change up their party based on the situation, but I've only just acquired the 5th party member so I'm still experimenting.

BL covered it pretty well I'll see what / if i can add anything:
DUNGEONS

There are quite a few optional/secret caves in the game. The secret areas are accessed from the Overworld. There's one particular secret cave which contains the secret boss, and I think most who played BODVII (if even for a short time ) should know it when they see it.
ITEMS
It seems like most of the items are pretty cut and dry upgrades over whatever you're carrying - like BoD but with a bit more in terms of options for elemental effects and such. Any plans to publish an items/location list so we can see what it takes to be fully pimped?
Hmm I dunno, not sure. There might be a FAQ coming up by someone who mentioned they'd do one. We'll see. I released an Overworld Map for BODVII after a few weeks post release for those who simply wanted to make sure they didn't miss Bonus caves and secret areas so I might do the same here. But not 'til the game's been out for a few weeks at least :P

Flood is quite useful, yeah, esp. with water power-ups. I'm liking Sharpe too for the same reasons. I'm going to hold onto Paws for a while since BL used him. But I haven't gotten through the whole game yet to decide on the as yet recieved party members :P

You guys should publish a joint BoDVii/CstW players guide with all the maps, level up info, enemy stats, strategies, item info, side dungeons...that sort of stuff...it would be awesome.

Heheh, that's a pretty understandable sentiment. I will say though that BODVII was a rather short game, and we felt like the gameplay and design was a good foundation we could build upon, and that there was still a group of people that would enjoy an expanded game based upon that foundation. Our next few games we're going to go with completely new gameplay elements though to keep things fresh.
I'm really glad you enjoyed the super-secret boss and his little area heheh I enjoyed making that little place and I'm glad we put it in.

Yes, actually! I do prefer going in blind the first time and being surprised. The linear, nonchangable customization is a really cool touch; I'm too old nowadays to obsessively min-max or respec just to squeeze out a few extra damage points. Though if you guys do anything in the future in a similar vein, it might be nice to have some kind of in-game reminder as to what bonuses we've actually picked.

Oh man, the tower in chapter 1:
Climbing up a maze of floors to the top of the tower with a grand vista, trying to take the sword which you then have to literally fight, who then joins your party as a "Swordsword."
I was pretty much laughing all the way back to town from that whole event.

His weapons and armor are blades and hilts, respectively, which is another nice touch.
In terms of comedy, I think Dacre was my favorite character. He said something so random at a crucial/climactic point in the game (not gonna spoil it). I remember because I sort of gagged on my pretzel and then spit out a chunk of it.
As far as mimicking a classic RPG, it’s a near-perfect knockoff. The graphics do their best impression of a Super Nintendo game while the music achieves a much better sound than the original hardware could produce. In fact, this is among some of the best in-game music I’ve ever heard, especially the battle sequence music.
If you like classic RPGs and, like me, are a sucker for anything involving the Cthulhu mythos, my advice is to skip your premium cup of coffee at least one time this week so you can afford to download “Cthlulhu Saves the World.” You’re getting about 6-10 hours of play time along with a hilarious, original story. At 240 MS points (roughly $3), it’s well worth it.
Really digging this. You guys have a better understanding of mechanics design than companies like Square.
My party is Cthulu, October, Sharpe, and Paws. Random battles usually end on turn one or two. In BoD I took EVERYONE on the physical path but now I am balancing it. I even made Cthulu a mage. Usually a high powered fireball can take down a whole group, especially if I start with Meow (the best insanity inducer for random battles.)
For boss battles, I just throw up Regen All after a Witch's Familiar, and try to kill the boss before they kill me. Sometimes I have to heal but usually I just have Paws and Sharp use Mirage Attack, and let Sharpe finish with Deathblow. Cthulu just uses lightning- he's really more of a random battles sort of guy.
I like how there are so many options to creating competent characters. I haven't even experimented with Dacre or Ember yet. But come on. A white mage in probably the most offense-oriented RPG ever? Not for me. And I'm interested in Ember but his lack of skills kind of sour my interest and I'm already really invested in my party, probably because their dynamics are my responsibility. That's probably a good thing.
One thing I like is that, even though the weapons you get later are usually better, there is still some choice. Because I was using a mage Cthulu, I had the Trance Sword on for a long, long time. I like that it's not just a vertical upgrade. There's choices to be made based on your playstyle. It strikes a really good balance that Final Fantasy XIII tried to achieve, but failed to.
I like the optional dungeons, just as I did in BoD.
Insanity is a great idea, but I can't really tell which enemies are more dangerous when insane. I do really like the risk versus reward in it though.
The one thing I didn't really like was that it seems like there is less character in this one. It feels like the characters in BoD talked to each other more. It also helped that their Unite techniques were based on character development, silly as it was. It would be cool if you got a PS1 Final Fantasy Tactics style text box during some attacks- maybe the characters talking to each other during a Unite technique.
Also, I think the postmodernist in me is trying to view this game as a commentary on how Cthulu is so ubiquitous now that he has lost any relevance for what he stands for. I know he's probably popular with your projected audience and you are trying to get sales, but it just seems a little overdone to me.
So, just out of curiosity, how do these number compare to your previous game and what you expected? I'm hoping that the publicity on G4 and the positive reviews will help it spread!
Also, just seeing how fast you guys have done the game (and your plans to have it on the PC in a reasonable period of time) is impressive. I haven't even played the game yet (I queued up the download, though), but the hilarious music video was a great first impression. I'm looking forward to it, and whatever else you guys come up with.

Well Microsoft takes 30% of sales revenue. After that, the remaining 70% is split between team members however we decide to do it. So for a $3 sale, our team gets about $2.1, and from there, we split it between the three of us (Rainbow, myself, and our musician Gordon).
Some people say that 30% seems like a lot for MS to take, but honestly it's quite a deal considering they offer the XNA dev kit for free and you only need to pay a $99/year fee to release on XBLIG, and they host and distribute the games and take care of the sales systems and everything.
