So has the movie managed to do better box-office wise this week, or is it pretty much doomed at this point?

I'm deeply saddened this isn't getting the recognition it deserved. Perhaps they picked a really shitty date for it (same day as Expendables), but there's no reason it should be getting ignored so much. I thought there was still a market for wildly different, pop-centric movies like this.

I've pretty much had a beef with every movie I've seen this year, minus this one and Toy Story 3. I just hope the blu rav version is loaded with extras.

I dunno, the movie was fun but it had a load of flaws. I can't be too surprised that it's getting hammered at the box office.

It has been sittin' pretty at #10 consistently.

Then how does that explain Vampires Suck on place 2? I mean all of these movies have been shit for years. Doesn't seem to decrease viewers.

Anecdotally, it sounds like it's losing a whole ton of theaters and showtimes this weekend, so I can't believe it'll do very well at all from here on out.

This makes me very, very sad. But then again, the target audience for movies like that (and the dozens of movies the writers had made previously) is the kind of person whose taste is, shall we say, less than cultivated.

Knives should be using up Guts, and if she ain't using up Guts (cause you're probably at triple-zero) then she's using up health. Or the game bugged in your favor and you should totally take advantage of that opportunity.

The "Rolling Crystal Flash" should be his Down+Triangle (don't remember what button that is on the X360, the top button). This is unlocked once you get to stage 6 and you should look for a section where
there's 4 NPCs standing just outside a couple of trees whose leaves form the star pattern. You'll be inside a Zelda 2 (NES) house, and you want to go to the right to find Comeau's Secret Shop.
Make sure you have about $52 stashed on you, too.

Knives only uses up Guts if she actually does something; if you're using Stephen Stills, and call her out without any enemies on screen, she won't attack and doesn't take any Guts. Kim's Knives move is extremely broken if you don't get Mr. Chau, because even if you're out of Guts, you'll still be gaining Health.

Reviews and word of mouth have been fantastic, and flaws only really come into play after you've seen the movie. So I really do think it's the initial 'hipster vibe' and 'Michael Cera' that's killing attention, which is a pity, because I thought he was a really good (if different) Scott, and this is about as hipster as... as... as something which isn't very hipster.

The trailer also didn't make the movie look as good as it really was supposedly. Everyone I've talked to about the movie said the trailer sucked, which is why they didn't go and see it. Which I think is wrong because the trailer was awesome.

I cleared Stage 2 with Kim this afternoon, and I'm really digging the new moves earned by leveling up. So far they've all been useful, and add a nice new depth to the combat system. Pulling off a good counter is always satisfying once you've gotten the timing down. This really is a great game, "rushed" or not.

therefore, Scott Pilgrim is a hipster comic! DUH.

I think it's mostly the fact that it's Michael Cera starring in what appears to be an offbeat romantic comedy (despite the trailers showing clearly its game trope-inspired gags and effects), and somehow people relate that with "hipster". Again, these are probably the same people who willingly throw money at junk like, say, "Vampires Suck". But this isn't the place for movie discussion (head over to the D&D Scott Pilgrim thread for that). Let's focus on talking about how enjoyable it is to beat up on tons of goons with Scott & co. to a groovy soundtrack.

The Hurt Locker did terribly in the box office, because viewers will actively avoid anything Iraq related, and they want it as far away from their mind as possible. It took the Academy Awards for it to go crazy in DVD and Blu Ray sales, thankfully.

I'm sure Scott Prilgrim will be just fine in the long run.

Wasn't it because some absolute dumbfuck of an exec only put the movie on limited theaters for like a week?

Apparently he was less concerned about the Iraq theme and more concerned with the fact that it was an Iraq movie written by a woman.

The widest release The Hurt Locker got (according to Box Office Mojo) was about 500 theaters.

For comparison, most blockbusters these days open in at least five times that many theaters.

Woo I finally went out to see the movie. Was supposed to see it in a Drive In as a double featre with Vampires Suck (of all things) but the wife thought it started at 9, when it started at 8. So we caught a late showing nearby and I loved it. Even she didnt mind it and I was worried it would be a little too wierd for her.

Didn't realize how closely the game mimiced the movie though.
