So how do all of the stat upgrade items work? In level 3 I bought T-Shirt and a Hat and it upped my stats, but can I just keep buying them over and over again if I have the money to keep upping my stats again and again?
Yep.
And if you get the money to pay off Scott's late fees at the video store you can buy really really cheap upgrade items.
I wondered what that would do. 500 bucks is a lot of money, geez!
Anyone who wants the game to retain some form of difficulty stay away from Wallace's shop. 2 Bionic Arms apparently max your strength and allow you to one and two shot bosses. Although I'm not sad about max speed so I can actually you know... move about.
Can you start a new game without your levels without changing profile?
Halfway through fighting Lucas Lee, the colors on the screen became faded and there was a slight static filter over everything. I remembered the "filming" sections of the level and thought "Wow! Since he's an actor, this is a cool way to show that he's low on health."
Then I defeated him and the odd colors/static persisted. Then I got back to the map screen and they were still there. Then I quit to the PS3 menu and it was still happening. Why did my video cable choose now to start dying?
I downloaded the demo.. I'm digging it. No online co-op?
Nope, you gotta invite your friends over to play Scott Pilgrim after school.
Seriously, everything about this game makes me feel like I'm 8 years old and playing NES again. It's incredible.
It's actually rather interesting. I grew up playing video games, which my fiancee was introduced to them within the last few years (by me, naturally). There's so many things that are just second nature to me now, but she has trouble because she's not used to such old-school gameplay.
So.. I've heard that you have to start from the beginning if you lose all of your lives, but will you also lose all of your money, XP, and stats?
You get kicked back to the world map and have to start from the beginning of the current level if you lose all your lives, but you keep all your XP, cash and stats gained.

Which makes for a weird dynamic in that you're better off dying until you see the continue screen before starting a new stage, if you lost any lives in the previous stage.

Yeah, seriously. If there's something that seems like bad design, just remember it's because games back then were like that. This is old school brawling, warts and all.
Does anyone know what the deal is with those cash filled cases? I have no idea what to do with them.
You hit people with them, if I'm not mistaken. You're talking about the suitcases that are lying on the ground from time to time? Yeah, those are just weapons.

Bah, that sucks. I figured they were something special since there seems to be only 1 in every level.
Occasionally, there are mail boxes you can smash. Sometimes, they have a skull inside, other times there is a pouch in there. You can't pick up the pouch, right?

I don't like how they describe Nega-Scott as being Scott evil twin.

If you pay off the late fees, do ALL of your characters get to buy the cheap upgrades? Or just the one you bought it on? Kind of defeats the purpose, as my Kim is maxed out.

You have to pay the late fee and buy he upgrades all on one go. Once you leave the shop, you'll need to pay the fee again.

That is goofy as hell.
So I guess if you give all of your money to another character on another profile, you can transfer it back to another character on your own profile and max them out at like level 1.

Wait I'm not sure this is true. I paid for it, left the stage, got $20 or so and bought items. However only the one who paid the fine off gets to buy. If anyone else tries it tells them to pay the fine which is lame.
Finally beat Matt Patel. That took me for-fucking-ever (I'm like level 9 or 10 - jeez) - but then I pretty much breezed through level 2 on like, one life only to die at the boss. And he was all pissed off and flashing, too. I think I'm gettin' better.
Also, I think I love this game.

this is not true at all.
I'm not sure if it pays the late fee for every character, but you only have to do it once per character.
If you leave the shop and come back in, the shop menu on the right will still list the late fee, but when you actually go up to the counter and press X, it's replaced by the videos you can buy, without having to pay again.

Man, this game is hard. I'm playing on the first difficulty level and just getting my ass handed to me. I'm doing runs through the first stage to get 500 dollars, and I keep dying, over and over. Well, I make it a little farther each time.
Is there any way to get back to the map screen?
Does Knives do anything when you summon her as Scott? That kiss she blows doesn't do much. I'm not even sure what it does.

I've only played the demo, but things got a bit weird on the map screen or in a shop, eventually my PS3 just decided to reset itself.

pretty sure Negascott's the secret character but don't hold me to that
You just have to restart the level you're on, you keep everything else.

Edit: Beaten to the punch.
I find it's like that in a few brawlers.
Well, that's how it was in TMNT GBA.
A fun little diversion, and you can use it to grind levels if you were so inclined.

Pixel art and music seem awesome, gameplay might be a little too slavishly old school. I always hated waiting for guys to get up in brawlers.
As for your spoiler subject, go redo a level all the way through. There's a chance of him showing up on the map ala a Hammer Bro in Super Mario Bros 3
Lame
You get a move to do a hand spring thing right before you hit the ground after awhile. It is in the move list, I think. I might be imagining this.
