80's/90's Horror movie

There is a movie I watched years ago that I was one of those "Big evil summoned and wrecks havoc through quiet town" scenarios. All I can really remember though is one or two of the scenes.
The first scene I remember is that this guy and his son are driving a long (quite a ways into the movie) and he stops to either go take a piss or check something out. I just remember that he's gone when the monster shows up on the other side of the care and comes in after the kid. The dad sees the monster and gets to the car to find them both gone.
I think this was from the same movie, but I watched a lot of cheesy horror movies at the time. I remember something about a priest not wanting to be killed, so he knelt down while the monster pissed on him or something like that.
