Long time forum stalker but I just had surgery so I have about two weeks off from work and I had an itch to play this so I made myself an archer type character. I started running around and I got kind of bored soloing in this game so I just wanted to know if anybody around level 10 is running around Millenium City to team up with and kick some villainous butt.

Heh, so just when I was about to post the new version of the PTS patch notes, I read over them and spoted a bunch of stuff that has already contradicted and changed, within a day of being posted.

The devs have a near real-time conversation going on with the PTS denizens, and have been extremely responsive to feedback. The entire patch is still in a state of flux.

So again, I'm not going to post them here right now out of context.

The major thing happening is that forms are spreading out to fully encompass various playstyles (not just melee and ranged attackers who are willing to put up with the annoyance of enrage). Multiplicative buffs are becoming additive (Aggressor, Aspect of the Infernal etc). AoPM is getting a small nerf that people are still raging about like the sky has fallen. The other auras are getting buffed, and amazingly, people are bitching that AoRP will be "overpowered". The very same people complaining that AoPM was perfect and needed no nerf, so I don't trust a word they say.

There's many other things under consideration, but honestly, if you want to be a tester and have input, support the game; buy a subscription.

I don't PvP enough to know for sure, but my adventures on the forums lead me to believe that this particular whining is due to some PvPers' perception that a powerful AoRP will break (or at least be a step towards breaking) their precious OHKO force cascade setups. For my PvE menagerie build, the buff is fantastic.

    CO's got a new Grab-Bag and it's got a pretty sweet prize.
    CO.com wrote:
Our latest chance box has arrived, and we’ve loaded this box up with the best prize we could think of… A new Freeform Character Slot! Previously only available to Gold Members of Champions Online: Free for All, this character will allow silver players the ability to create a Free-Form Champion, which is not limited by the power selection of an Archetype Character! Act fast though! This grab bag has a shelf life, and before too long they’ll be long gone.

The GB's available both in the C-Store for those who have the points and as a reward for a new daily mission in Millennium City, granting Drifter Salvage as it's other (and more likely to get) prize. Subscribers still win out as they'll still get a free character slot out of it as well as being able to keep playing the character as Freeform if they ever go F2P.

I wonder if this is an indication of free-form slots coming to the store at some point. While I'd like a freeform character, I'm not interesting in grinding for another box just for the chance of getting one.

Well the daily to get one free isn't too bad. The regular enemies you have to face pop up in the same places that the ones from the Drifter's previous daily showed up at. The catch is that you also have to take down Mechasssassin and Steel Commando for the daily too and the former's Alert-self doesn't count. They pop up at certain places too. I caught them at the Harmon Labs in Downtown and the Dynamic Labs in the N/NW portion of M-City. You may have to wait there as they pop up in a few more places and only in a specific zone at a time.

Hrm, where do you get the daily mission?
I got a quest that directed me to the drifter, but nothing happened after I talked to him.

The Drifter should give you the quest for the daily grab bag + 500 ore, not sure about a min. lvl.
If you are looking for the 2k ore quest check your Crime Computer->Alerts, works at lvl 6....

Look for zone chat or "/Channel_Join MechaCommando" for Steel Commando/Mechassassin locations.

If it's anything like the lockboxes in STO, then the chances are very tiny. Like, 1-in-200 tiny. Probably even smaller because freeform characters are basically the only reason to subscribe to the game.

The notes for tomorrow's patch are up. Looks like there may be respecs needed for a lot of players. Here's the portion that caught my eye as a F2Per.
-All archetypes have had their power schedule adjusted. They all recieve an additional new power.

-Archetypes now recieve powers at 21,25,30,35, and 40 instead of 22,27,32, and 40.

-All Archetypes now get a Form at 14.

-All block replacer powers have been moved to 21.

Also, it looks like they're adding in something similar to STO's hourly Event Calender. This is what to expect so far from it.
-Questionite Ore Bonus: While this event is active, Questionite Ore has a chance to drop from every critter in the game.

-Questionite Story Bonus: While this event is active, Comic Series and Adventure Pack missions and critters reward additional Questionite.

-Experience Bonus: While this event is active, Heroes will earn Bonus XP from every critter in the game.

-Resource Bonus: While this event is active, Bonus Resources have a chance to drop from every critter in the game.

-Story Resources Bonus: While this event is active, Comic Series and Adventure Pack critters award additional Resources.

-Acclaim Bonus: While this event is active, double acclaim is awarded from PvP matches.

-Modification Bonus: While this event is active, Bonus Modifications have a chance to drop from Modification Nodes.

6/2 EDIT: It looks like a new lore-article will be going up now and then on the CO-site labeled News Of The World. Nothing exactly new except for the neat pic attached to the second part of the article that's labeled as 'Power Armor Sneak Peek'.
Meteor Showers Deposit Rarest of Elements

Scientists now confirm that the recent and extraordinary meteor showers seen around the globe were not only notable for their unusual volume and frequency. Researchers claim that these meteors have actually deposited on Earth new stores of one of the rarest minerals known to man – Questionite! Its very name a testament to its unusual properties and unknown potential, Questionite has long been a target of science and a source of intrigue and conflict.

Now governments, corporations and individuals are all scrambling to discover and extract ore from new deposits of this element and put its properties to the test. Already researchers are finding new uses for this wondrous ore – from new methods of power generation to uses as a structural component and more, who knows what the future will reveal? For now, one thing is certain – though more of this elusive element is now available, its relative rarity is still high, and that can only mean demand will follow!

    Q-Powered Arms Race

As the world economy braces itself for the impending impact imposed by an influx of that rare space-born element, Questionite, technology titans around the globe are preparing for an epic arms-race. The question on everyone’s mind – who can make the most of this amazing new element?

Long since thought so rare as to be unavailable for study to any but the most powerful on the planet, a recent meteor shower seen across the globe has distributed a significant sum of the valuable ore in all manner of locations, many of which are yet to be discovered.

However, one thing is clear – study of the elements’ properties proceeds at an ever-increased pace, as scientists from all manner of organizations develop new tools and technologies with Questionite at the center of their innovations!

An announcement from mega-corporation Argent earlier this week communicated their intent to pioneer new, clean energy using Questionite. The company’s detractors, among them environment protection groups, were understandably skeptical, citing the company’s past record and suggested ties to mercenary groups and alleged illicit activity.

Harmon Labs, meanwhile, is rumored to be working on a top secret defense initiative utilizing Questionite as its primary power source. Given Harmon Labs’ long track record of producing cutting edge technology innovations and its ties to UNTIL and UNITY, speculation is understandably rampant. The most common theory revolves around a new, mobile weapons platform.

    bkxdh.jpg

Steel Commando and Mechassassin Linked to Argent in Kidnapping Investigation

A recent spate of supervillain crime spilled over onto the streets of Millennium City when mercenaries Steel Commando and Mechassassin allegedly kidnapped investigators from the Questionite Exchange research division.

Luckily, heroes were on hand to stage a rescue planned and executed in cooperation with the city’s own MARS response teams. Early leads suggest that the goal behind the kidnappings was the acquisition of an innovative new technology pioneered by Exchange scientists, nicknamed the “Questionite Detector.” Though the technology itself is top-secret, these devices are rumored to allow researchers to find significantly more of the elusive Questionite ore.

Further, while investigations are ongoing, several sources have implicated the pair of power-armored mercenaries as being in the employ of the international mega-corporation, Argent. If true, these rumors would imply that the mega-corporation is flagging behind in the new technology race and is desperate to acquire more Questionite for their projects in development. Regardless, whoever did hire these mercenaries is willing to take drastic steps to appropriate cutting-edge technology to further their goals. Whatever the case may be, it is certain that the new pace of technology development sparked by the arrival of this ore from the stars will only be cause for more conflict in the future.

Sorry for double-posting but has anyone run the UNITY2 mission before? I wanna know if you have to beat Therakiel's Temple first to properly complete Quest Of The Elements. It's just that I've done the initial Element run and I did the Special Assignment but for some reason it's not registering with the person I have to turn it into and I heard that the UNITY2 missions also entail doing a run of the Temple as well.

You do not have to have run TT.

Are you sure you're turning the Unity 2 special into the right person? Because the right person should be Whisper, not Buffy or Doc or whoever you turned the quest into when you did the original, real version of the quest.

So, the Power Armor pass went live today, along with a new AT that takes advantage of the new powers. You can actually build a toon using 100% PA powers and have it be fun and not gimped at the same time, which was really not true before. Eye Beams and Shoulder Launcher are still stinkers, but the new powers are awesome. The various changes introduced in On Alert also allow you to run 3 AoE slot powers at once, which gives some very impressive DPS even on single targets.

Also you can get a Fire All Weapons attack which turns you into a disco ball. A disco ball of bullets, lasers, missiles, and pain.

Yeah, wanted to post about it but I didn't want to do a double-posting again in the thread so soon let alone on the same page. I didn't expect them making the Power Armor AT, the Invincible, into a ranged tank. The new armor-based costume-pack is also pretty nice. I like how it's holographic pieces are separate from the actual armor, letting you use them for non-armor designs.

Plasma Burn is fantastic. I just wish it procced off of more ranged powers. Unless they fixed it from PTS, the only way to build stacks of it reliably was to use your energy builder (with advantage), since Plasma Beam seemed to only refresh existing stacks when it triggered.

Hmm, so it does. Looks like none of the burn abilities actually refreshed the stacks, and that's a bit of a weakness. An extra 1-pt advantage for PB or the energy builder, to make it refresh the stacks on proc, would be nice.

Looks like the Power Armor updates and new costumes have inspired a new Alert.
We’ve received distress signals from Harmon Laboratories, they are under attack! ARGENT has bribed a member of the security team to provide Warlord, a power armored super villain, access to the labs. He’s taken over the area with a small army of mercenaries, and they’ve taken hostages in an effort to learn the access codes the new Harmon Holographic Hexfield Nan-armor Battle Suit Prototypes, which they have already acquired.

We need Champions to Respond to this Alert, take out the mercenaries, free the hostages, and subdue Warlord!

Completion of this Alert will result in an Alert Resource Reward, and Champions may also be able to acquire pieces of Warlord’s Armor, including his armored suits Depleted Uranium Core, a powerful Offensive Mod!

    Also...

The Cyber-Augmented Suit has arrived in the Q-Store! This sleek new item set can be picked up in pieces for Questionite, and as you collect more of the pieces, you’ll get better stat bonuses. If you equip three pieces of the set, you’ll get +25% damage (non-physical), and at six pieces, you’ll get an additional 25% bonus to non-physical damage, and the Power Armor Costume Swap power.

I can imagine that those new gears will be pretty popular among the min/max crowd. Not the primaries, of course, but a 25% damage boost from secondaries is nothing to sneeze at.

Having primaries with high-rank mods and actual inherent abilities is way better than getting the other three pieces of the set, and the transformation power is novel but not terribly effective when compared with a tuned build.

edit: apparently the damage boost is non-physical only. This makes it stupid because half the transformation powers won't even get any benefit from it. Better off going with the Dillo secondaries for min/maxing.

CO released a 'State Of The Game' report for June to go over what's happened and what's to come. Here's some of the highlights written by the new Executive Producer Brad Stokan.
-Besides a host of power-armor themed parts in the Drifter Store, we have even more related releases over the next week. For the less hi-tech inclined, look for a special become-critter enabling you to step inside a mighty suit of Lemurian Magi-Tech armor! This awesome item offers a slick variation on the power armor theme, with a mystical twist!

-Meanwhile, we’ve already begun development on a brand-new type of Alert, tentatively titled the “Rampage” Alert! These unique encounters will feature villains so daunting, so challenging that they’ll demand no fewer than 10 heroes, of level 35-40 no less! The team is hard at work on finishing work on the first of these epic showdowns, featuring the devious diva known as Gravitar! A hero’s worst nightmare, she represents what would happen if a famous heiress had the raw power to level a city block just to grab a front page headline! In combat, she’ll lay down a barrage of AOE attacks – special FX will telegraph for just a moment whether she will target an area or a specific player. Every attack will be hard-hitting, and players will need to work hard and stay sharp to avoid them.

-I’ve often dreamed of debuting in Champions Online my personal favorite IP character – Nighthawk! Now, that dream will soon become a reality. We are currently planning a brand-new Event featuring this enigmatic avenger, including a number of rewards that no self-respecting hero will want to do without. That list might even include the first in a potential fleet of personal, armed-to-the-teeth transportation devices some call “Vehicles”… but we’ll leave those details for another time!

    Rampage Alerts!

This week’s release unveils the new “Rampage” Alert type! These unique encounters will feature villains so powerful that they’ll demand a team of 10 heroes of level 35-40! These fights are designed to give a bit more challenge to our long-standing and high-level players, primarily via mechanics which demand more teamwork and more dynamic engagement in the battle. Rewards include Questionite Ore as well as new costume pieces from the featured villains!

Gravitar has arrived for a night on the town in Millennium City! That dreadful diva’s idea of a good time is wreaking total havoc to grab a few headlines! We have managed to contain her to a city block, but we need 10 worthy heroes to go in and subdue her before she breaks free or causes more damage! Are you up to the challenge?

Below is a preview of Gravitar’s unique powers and what they do! You’ll need all the help you can get to take her down!

-Force Detonation - Gravitar focuses briefly on a nearby point in space and then unleashes a torrent of force that heavily damages heroes in the area.
-Force Eruption - Gravitar blasts away nearby heroes with heavy damage.
-Gravity Cascade - Gravitar picks a random target and unleashes a chain of gravity pulses in a line towards her target. She does this up to 3 times in a row depending on her current health.
-Gravity Well - After losing enough health Gravitar will begin to create powerful Gravity Wells that pull all heroes toward her before blasting them away for massive damage.
-Gravity Bubble - Gravitar suspends heroes in an area in a bubble of gravitational energies and begins channeling a powerful gravity burst which will instantly kill heroes in the area.

That is a comical amount of deformation on that woman on the left.

...and when you are done with that; take a folding
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.

Annnnd the other shoe has dropped. So much for all the great things that the merger was supposed to produce. Thus far, the only not-shitty thing that's a direct result of PWE's takeover is that the game hasn't been shut down (yet).

Really? They're just merging the accounts so everyone uses PWE's account system.

They're also getting rid of a bunch of community forum features. Oh, and if your @name happens to match an existing PWE account? Guess who has to get a new name.

I'd also gripe about the Zen->CP thing being forced on us, but they're actually just getting rid of CP entirely so it's still just a one-step process. Though there's no details on whether or not we'll be able to buy Zen in-game like we can with CP (i.e. without having to minimize the game and go to an account site).
