One thing I saw a lot was tanks getting "burned out" on tanking; I suppose it was purely coincidental that it tended to happen when it came time for us to start doing Karazhan again to get someone new geared up.
And this is why being able to buy a previous tier's gear with badges isn't the end of the world.
It's such a good thing because NO ONE wants to have to run some new guy through all the raids to get him geared up. Now they can get "caught up" on their own time.
The geese complain of course because oh noes! people are getting their 'welfare' epics. The same geese would complain bitterly if they had to gear up by running all the older content in turn and would manage to be conveniently busy if it came to helping someone else get geared up.
Arms warrior in my H FoS pug rolled on Seven-Fingered Claw "For his offset." When I asked what he would need a 1h weapon for, he said his fury spec doesn't use Titan's Grip.
I would've used it on my combat rogue when I hit 80 if I had it drop or found it for less than 100g, but it was still going for 600g as of a couple months ago.
Then again, I just like the look of a lot of troll weapons and armor.
I had one a million years ago at the beginning of Wrath and sold it for a crisp 1k. Split that money with a mate who needed money towards epic flying. These days I see one or two in the AH for about 100g or so, on my server.
I have absolutely no frame of reference, so if this is a dumb question, please forgive me. How difficult/easy is it to get a 1800 arena rating? There's a shield that's only 350 arena points (I could grind that out from daily random BGs) but also requires a 1800 rating.

It's not that much of an ordeal. A couple of friends and I casually managed that. We were using some sort of proto-dumbass CAVEMAN SMASH kind of beastcleave set-up. It was like a Goldberg match. First came the Bloodlust then came the JACKHAMMER , however more often than not, they kicked out and we lost. But it was good times and I've found that a lot of people just doing arenas for basic reasons stop at around 1800, much like how most people quit the old honor grind a few steps down from High Warlord/Grand Buttmuppet or whatever the Alliance version was.

I'm also working on getting a 1800 rating so my DK can get the PvP sword. Right now after one week our team is at like 139. But when I started I had nearly 0 resilience and only 22k HP. I've made great improvements to my PvP gear (900 resilience now) and HP (28k).
I remember in BC all you had to do was get a few wins and you'd automatically get a decent rating.

Well, I had Deathbringer's Will ninjaed off me last night, but tonight made up for it.
Picked up a DBW for almost no DKP (the damn things drop like fucking candy in our guild runs. It's not off-specs vs infrequent raiders) AND I picked up the Heroic version of Bile-Encrusted Chocker.
We got Heroic Rotface 25 down (barely) and did a bunch of tries on heroic Blood Queen, but morons kept getting MCed on that (so fucking stupid)
Man. I'd have to say that, of all the revamped starter zones, Trolls get the best one, lore-wise.
Motherfucking VOL'JIN. And you help him get his revenge in what has to be one of the coolest fights I've seen in this game. Keeping in mind that you're level 5, yet it makes perfect sense. You're basically a tag-along, yet you still play a vital role.
Also, I will admit I almost cried during the fight. There's a major player punch that they pull that hit me pretty damn hard.
You have to be level 75 to help Vo'jin? if I remember reading that somewhere?
I know it will take me too long to do it but I want to create a racist dwarf and get 3 certain items and shout slogans as the dwarves chase the gnomes out of town for the event

The quest at level 5 has you go with Vol'jin to fight the motherfucking Sea Witch. She's a bitch and a half, but it's your job to help clear out these level 4 manifestations that Vol'jin can't deal with without breaking his concentration, basically. She then freezes everyone and starts sucking up all this power, but she ignores you since you're a dinky level 5. You have to go stomp out these fires that are empowering her.
Tearjerker spoilers:
There's a troll named Zuni who's been running through the training alongside you - he's friendly and loveable and you get to like him. Well, he's helping you and Vol'jin and the second time the Sea Witch freezes everyone, he goes out to stomp the fires. She's caught on, though, and rips his soul out. So he sacrificed himself unknowingly, saving you and Vol'jin.

Well you also used to start at 1500
I honestly wouldn't touch arena if you're looking for gear upgrades. You're coming late into the game, and if you're doing arena to try get yourself a decent shield, then it would be less frustrating if you just went of and got one in an instance.

I dunno if you know how frustrating trying to get a shield in an instance is. :P
Plus, it looks cool, and is apparently still pretty decent for PVE.

Well I suppose it's a matter of taste. I'd rather run an instance or go for pug raids (pretty sure there's a decent shield that drops off Marrow 25 isn't there? A pugs got to be pretty awful not to down him) then attempt to try get a 1.8 rating in say 2vs2.
There are going to be games you'll just lose through no fault of your own, apart from deciding to hit the "join arena" button. Getting locked down, or cc'd while you see your team mate's health just drop is incredibly annoying for me anyway.
I'm sure it'd be frustrating, of course, no doubt about that. Just idly thinking here.
And Marrowgar's shield is healer, not tank. The only upgrades at this point are a) halfway through Ulduar, b) finishing ToC, c) getting to the gunship battle, or d) this shield. And I don't think I overgear the content enough to get anything but a) and d) at this point.
The HHoR i219 one. It's serviceable, but I like to work towards goals well in advance.
EDIT: D'oh! I thought to check after you asked, I forgot the KT 25 one and the one Icehowl 25 drops. They're not necessarily easy to get, since I have to wrangle 24 other people and I've never tanked either before.
Yeah the HoR one is pretty much the best pre-raid shield you can get. The only other one I can think of that you might be able to get without stepping foot into a raid is the Northern Barrier which is a BoE drop from Hodir 25 and occasionally shows up on the AH. Granted it's a lot more rare now that Ulduar 25 is old content, but you could try keeping an eye out for it.
Really your best bet at this point is the one from Anub'arak 10 as far as raids go, or getting in on Gunship 10 kills.
Ugh, just went to Arena Junkies to read up on current Arena ideas, strats and compositions. Those are among the worst forums that exist. Giant animated signatures and avatars all over the place, unintelligible posts abound, and general goosery stacked to the high heavens over there. It sucks that is the mentality PvP draws, and if you don't act like an idiot then you are a fail baddie.
AJ is terrible though. Damn near every post is _____ is the end of wow, and it's a slap in the face. I was able to get a little bit of useful information, but if you ask a question it ends getting answered by 10 trolls and maybe one semi serious response.
Wish there were some EJ like forums for PvP or arena atleast. Some facts. I had to search for hours to find the current patch spec of choice for a team composition. Not to mention the lack of any sort of general strats anywhere, everyone just assumes you know all the basic and advanced tactics.

Isn't AJ exactly that, the PvP version of EJ?
I mean, they're absolutely nothing alike, but I thought they're related.
Like, what talent specs generally works better for Priest / Mage Comps? Could Psychic Horror counter the difficulty of running into priest/rogue teams, or is it better to have powerful bubbles?
Is anyone a regular Arena player here? what comp do you run with in 2s and 3s? What fights tend to be difficult for you? Are there any team comps that have too low of a chance to beat any other comp it isn't worth running?

Their tears feed my soul. If I had a soul.

Why do you need our validation? Do what you want to do. If you think WoW would be fun, play it. If you don't think it would be fun, don't play it.

I knew it.
That's quite a spec he's got there, and Glyph of Healing Touch on his balance spec.

My and Decompsey's guild stopped killing Hydross way early on. Way too much of a pain.
