I'm actually curious how many guilds just skipped Hydross in SSC rather than farm up two sets of tank gear.
From several pages back:
My and Decompsey's guild stopped killing Hydross way early on. Way too much of a pain.
My TBC guild stayed out of SSC because we didn't have tanks with the gear for ages, this was at the same time as refusing to attempt A'lar and just killing VR and Solarian in TK every week as well as the T4 bosses. We ended up downing A'lar in like three pulls once we finally got to her, though.
Like, what talent specs generally works better for Priest / Mage Comps? Could Psychic Horror counter the difficulty of running into priest/rogue teams, or is it better to have powerful bubbles?
Is anyone a regular Arena player here? what comp do you run with in 2s and 3s? What fights tend to be difficult for you? Are there any team comps that have too low of a chance to beat any other comp it isn't worth running?
I started in 2s maybe a month ago. We aren't the greatest comp, or players but we do ok. We started as Ele shaman, and Arms warrior, but as we got into the 1000's I switched to resto. For Mage/Priest, I would suggest Frost/Disc.
There are some comps that give us a lot of grief, namely anything+rogue. Disc priests are really tough for us as well. Now that I'm resto mages don't seem to be as bad as they were before, but they can still be a huge PITA.
That being said there really isn't any comp that can't make it to 1800. There are ones that have no chance of making gladiator, but I wouldn't worry about that. They pretty much gave up on balancing 2's so you will see a lot of the same comps up at the top but don't let that get you down. If you know your class well, you will win a lot of matches. The problem comes when the other team does too, there are some fights where you won't have a chance no matter what you do.

Actually I think we stopped doing Hydross when the guild ran out of those pumpkins you throw at peoples heads. Me and Hurlly (I was the ice tank, he was poison) refused to don our resist gear without those pumpkins, because the graphics on those resist helmets was just THAT godawful. Still have that set of resist gear in my bank I think.

Before following any advice, opinions, or thoughts I may have expressed in the above post, be warned: I found Keven Costners "Waterworld" to be a very entertaining film.
That is a good point. We did Hydross late in the game anyway because no one really wanted to farm the gear. Speaking of SSC we need more bosses that have to be fished up.
I joined a new guild that was progressing through SSC at the time, and the other raiders in the guild farmed 100% of the mats for my resist gear for tanking Hydross, so it was all good for me.
when we were at SSC.. we killed Hydross about 2 or 3 times, don't recall.
At the time, only 2 people bothered to get the resist gear, after the 2nd or 3rd kill, our MT decided that they no longer wanted to play and just stopped raiding/playing entirely.
By the time anyone else got the resist gear necessary to do the fight, 3.0 rolled out and we just stopped bothering.

What is it with bad guys and jaw implants? There was that Darth Malak guy from KOTOR, that dude, Jaws from James Bond Jr and who knows who else. Did I miss the memo where it was decided that Jay Leno is the most insidious looking person alive or something?
Also gonna bet that this is a reward from archeology:
FUCK YES
Now they just have to add a skeletal parrot pet. The reason I chose Undead for my main is cuz I wanted to have a zombie pirate riding a raptor. I have the raptor, I have most of the pirate outfit--but an undead raptor? That'd just sell the whole thing.

Your opponent will be so distracted by your humongous jaw armor that he completely forgets to aim at your forehead?
So reforging sounds pretty great if I'm understanding it correctly.
Say I've got some piece of plate armor with the usual str/stam, and then it has 110 mastery rating and 100 crit rating, but I'm a little short of the hit cap. I can head to the reforge guy and turn it into a piece with 110 mastery rating, 60 crit rating, and 40 hit rating? Sweet. I'm hoping we'll be able to "undo" reforges, so that if I suddenly get hit rating on a new ring, I can go back to 110 mastery/100 crit on the original piece.

It sure sounds like the sort of thing that can't be undone. And IIRC, it can only be done once with each piece of equipment.
So I just couldn't keep this feral druid alive in heroic PoS. I felt like the worst resto shaman in the world. My gear is pretty not great, but I'd never had a problem before. He was dying on the two trash packs before the PoS cave (the frost guys, not even the fire ones) even though I had ES up, riptide, and was spamming LHW/CH. I've never seen a tank drop so fast.

I'm also worried that it will be a one-time thing, but someone brought up that if it is, their GM staff will probably be flooded with 10,000 reports a day of people who "accidentally ruined" an item. I also heard the point made that if you compare it to the current item modification systems (enchanting/gemming), none of those are permanent in that enchants/gems can be overwritten.
It would be nice if GC would have told us in that big reveal, but maybe they haven't decided yet.
GC said it can only be done once to an item, but he did not say whether or not it could be undone. I would venture to say they probably haven't decided on an answer to that question yet.
Not to lure Jubal back to the thread, but reforging, in addition to being awesome for customizing gear, seems like it has the potential to make resistance an actual interesting mechanic instead of a gear cockblock, because if you can reforge gear to swap AP or whatever out for resistance, then you'd actually be making a meaningful choice as to how much power you're willing to give up for survivability, and you could do it without having to spend an eternity farming bullshit to get special pieces of gear crafted.
Of course, only being able to reforge something once kinda takes the wind out of this idea, since you'd still have to get a second piece of gear for each slot you want resistance on, but going out and picking up "any chestpiece that's good for your class" and dumping the least-useful stat out for resistance is a hell of a lot less annoying than farming specific resist gear, and you could always just use an old piece from a tier down without losing too much item budget.
It'll be interesting to see if this possibility results in more resist fights, because it has the chance to actually be interesting, or fewer resist fights, because it's not a magic content extender anymore.
I also didn't think it worked like that in that you could change x amount of one stat for x amount of another. I thought it changed the stat by half into another stat. So your 100 crit rating would turn into 50 hit rating. Not 60 crit and 40 hit.

Especially the boots and gauntlets. My kingdom for new frigging armor models at the very least. Not the same sock/shoe/boot/gloves models for the sixth year in a row

Yeah, I'm not clear on this, exactly. I've heard you can swap a stat our for half as much of another stat, and I've also heard that you can swap it out at a 1 to 1 ratio, but only up to half the original amount of the stat you're changing, and I haven't seen it made clear whether it's the former, the latter, or both.
I would assume it's a 1 to 1 ratio with a limit on how big a portion you can change, though, because otherwise reforging an item is gimping its item budget, and you'd always be better off finding an item with stats you want than you would reforging another item to get those stats, and then reforging just becomes a way to make shitty gear less shitty until you can get the good piece to drop, rather than a means of customizing gear to your tastes, playstyle, and EJ recommendations

Seems like some people hate resist fights, but I always kind of liked Mother Shahraz in BT.
It was terrible sometimes if your raid really had no resist gear, but it was frantic as hell and that made it fun.

They were probably huffing compressed air. That explains their lack of presence.

Random high ilvl gear, getting you into heroics since LFD tool came out!!!
although why they haven't purchased the armor tanking trinket yet is beyond me.
I somehow missed the questline to get my rez spell for my paladin, finding out 5 levels late that I should have taken some quest back in Silvermoon.

Especially on Hydross.
I still remember gathering the gear for that fight, and we actually killed him maybe...twice?
Then we just skipped him after that.

There better be a bone pterodactyl mount too, just like in the IF museum.
I would pay $25 for a bone pterodactyl mount. Or a non-bone pterodactyl mount.
