Once they made fears not make the boss pick a new agro target anymore you didn't need Fear Ward anyway. I tanked Nightbane plenty of times as a Paladin with no fear ward. I would usually bubble/cancelaura the first fear just because I could, but after that it would just mean I might get hit in the back once.

I always dropped a tremor near Nightbane and refreshed as needed. We had a War and a Druid MT's in our guild so our needs changed up week to week.

:-( my team run only killed Nightbane like 4 times as a result of MT's or MH's leaving randomly and having to gear up new people. Only ever saw the boots I wanted drop once, lost to the MT who then quit :-(

We have 2 priests so we always had fearward rotating through.

We had a warrior that was awesome at stancedancing, so Nightbane's fear wasn't a problem for the tank. Now, the rest of the raid...

Once they changed fear so it didn't drop aggro the only real concern there was Nightbane turning towards the raid (depending on which way you ran) because of his cleaves and breath. If you ran with a bunch of melee that could get exciting.

    Then there was Archimonde...

And huh, I did not know that about zerker rage. Good to know :P

Oh, and it also wasn't a good Nightbane kill unless one of our priests got feared into his cleave.

Him dying due to stupid shitty luck on every boss was our good luck charm. We gave him repair money in return!

Yeah, that was definitely still a problem.

And the tank being able to break out of fear isn't enough alone, because melee (or sometimes even non-melee!) can run into cleave just as much as she could change which direction she was facing.

At least the fear bosses do don't increase your run speed like other fears do.

I wish that someway, somehow, that I could save every one of us

I always thought that was the best. MT gets fearward so Nightbane stays facing them. 1/2 the raid gets feared in front and cleaved, other half gets feared behind and tail swiped... sigh

I can't count the number of times our raid got 'stuck' on Nightbane for just that reason...I run out of fingers and toes.

My old GM used to mess with new people during Chess. While clearing on the way he would ask people if they knew how to play chess. Most people would say no and he would start rushing through the rules and talking about how healers can only move diagonaly and how wolves had to check clerics etc etc. Really piling it on thick. Usualy by the time we started newbies would be terrified to mess something up. He would also randomly start yelling at someone during the event and tell them they were messing it up and we were going to wipe. I miss my old guild.

Fear Ward was supposedly balanced around Tremor Totem, IIRC.

Except Fear Ward was guaranteed to work at least once when it ate the fear. Tremor Totem had a range of like 3 cm, went off like once every 5 goddamned years and only worked in your party. Needless to say, as a Shaman, I was pretty much always invited for that and Mana Spring Totem.

One thing that kind of annoys me with Nightbane is Blizzard. And they do this shit all the time. I spent who knows how fucking long getting the stupid urn, and then they turn around and nerf it so that you don't need it to summon his large bony ass. It's sitting in my bank, and I'm not going to vendor it, but when they do stuff like that it kind of annoys me. At least you still need a key to get into Kara so far....

Oh reading about Nightbane brings back memories... We would drink everytime someone got feared into a cleave. We were light weights then and couldn't handle too many wipes...

I also remember being potion spec for Kara days. It was such a mana drain on my shadow priest since fearward was considered a holy spell... Thank god they changed that!

They made it so now it tracks how many times people kick and how many times they get kicked. If either or both those numbers are high-ish your votekick cd goes up. If they are low-ish it goes down. Blue posted about it a week or two ago.

I like how we're punished for trying to boot afk'ers, d/c'ers, slackers, etc.
In my experience, only one person has been unjustly booted, and that person is me, and that's because the tanked sucked and they took it out on me, but w/e.
And from these forums, it doesn't really sound like people are being booted for any bad reasons, at all.

So now it's easier to grief than not to. Log into tank, queue up, and then go afk. No one will boot me, because no one wants the bad marks on their records. Groups eventually disband. Repeat ad infinitum. And since it's a different group each time with people that I'll never encounter again, I'll never get punished! I love Blizzard!

I seldom votekick. Maybe one run in ten? And that's over the past six months. I haven't done it once this patch, and the couple times I've tried I've been told "29 minutes to go LOLZ!" Is the system counting a votekick attempt against you when it's still on cooldown? Sometimes I'd do a cathartic votekick on some awful player even when I knew it hadn't been 15 minutes yet.

The system is apparently tuned to be way too strict if it's fucking doubled my cooldown.

Edit: For specifics, in this past week I wasn't able to kick a 0/0/0 death knight nor a ret paladin doing 1k DPS in HoL (which is a favorable DPS meter heroic other than the Ionar fight). He had, among other problems, a level 74 blue sword, a green "of the Boar" ring, and some assorted tank pieces. And he was using Seal of Wisdom. The system is failing if it won't let me boot players like that.

L Ron Howard, you're under the assumption that the system would be so strict, that just one vote to kick suddenly fucks over your "record". They said it would monitor and adjust itself.

And forty, you're under the assumption that the system is smart enough to know when you're kicking somebody with zero talent points spent, and when you're just being a goose to avoid competition for a NES (note: I'm not saying you are, just using it as an example). It's just altering the timer for somebody who kicks regularly, it's not smart enough to know the reason.

Either way though, I think the whole problem is moot. I can't find definitive proof, but I've a feeling they never put said system in with the patch anyways, since it's not even in the patch notes. Plus, I have never started a vote kick in my life until the other day, and I had a 30m timer as well. I guess they just silently decided to go back on it or something.

    Hey, random heirloom question.

I no longer have any horde 80's on my horde server but I'm moving my old mage there sometime and am collecting heirloom stuff from my active alliance duders in case I ever want to level my hordes.

Anyway, I think it should be fine, but if I buy an Heirloom Cold Weather Flying manual, I can still give it to one of my horde guys even though I don't have an 80 on that server, if I transfer my mage to horde with the manual...right?

No. Did you not see the part where I said I kick infrequently? The system is fucking retarded if I can't boot one moron out of every 40.

And if the system isn't in place yet, then why the fuck did they double the cooldown to the point where it is basically now useless? The patch actually made votekicking less useful. Between that and the changes to the chat window, this patch is like WotLK's voice chat patch.

Yea, I'm not impressed with the new votekick changes.

    1) It appears to be character based, not account based - so all the "credit" I've worked up on my rogue main hasn't carried across to my alts.
    2) I've kicked a lot of retards lately (one guy stayed in dalaran for 15 minutes, a fully enhancement geared/speced shaman queued as healer and trying to heal)
    3) I still have to wait a significant period of time to kick these gooses.
