On topic: I haven't had much to do with Nintendo since the 64, and their titles don't hold much sentimental value. But this is brilliant - by steering away from the 'casual' focus so heavily at their keynote, they've managed to make MS and Sony look like the lame friends who are always behind the trends (not to mention fucking retarded).
Man, Mario Dodgeball could be so sweet if they got the dudes who did the Kunio-Kun games for feedback and advice and shit. I wonder how good the Wii can do face demolotion physics.
okay, i know this is probably a really stupid question, given the name being so similar, but I couldn't find a confirmation about whether or not the 3DS is backwards compatible with DS games? This greatly effects my happiness and wallet, as I was going to buy a DSi tonight but didn't. Thanks!

I just got home RIGHT NOW from the first day of E3, got to play a bit of the Kinect and the 3DS, who wants to touch me?.. I said who wants to fucking touch me?!
So since I've been gone all day and haven't had a chance to read up on any of the announcements or the threads here, what have I been missing?

How long did you have to wait for it?
Not at all, press get set right to the front of the line.
@Xenogears of Bore
Well that's the thing, you guys were sitting at home getting all the announcements delivered right to you, on the show floor you have no idea what announcements are being made until you see it on the floor. So I'm sure I missed TONS of announcements.
You got the expected list of 3DS development? That's the highlight of the home crowd so far.
3DS is the highlight of the show for the home crowd? It really is for me so far, sometimes it takes your eyes a few moments to get used to the 3D, sometimes you have to tilt your head a TINY bit to line it up like a magic eye, but once it kicks in your good and it looks great. And if you are having trouble getting the 3D to sync and are seeing double images, you can adjust the depth slider until the images come together for you. The graphics are stunning, they look to be just a bit better than Wii level, though it could be the small screen. But I was seeing things like bump mapping and really crisp visuals. When watching the Metal Gear video which was interactive allowing you to pan the camera, at times it felt like I could reach into the screen and pull out a little action figure snake.

I think he meant the sheer number of third party titles being developed for it.
Kinda worried about the home and select buttons on the 3DS...they look like they're covered by a bubble of gel like plastic. I hate those type of buttons. Or are they actual buttons you push down like on all other Nintendo handhelds?

But yes, the wide spread opinion from the home crowd is that 3DS was easily the biggest thing at the show.
A lot of posts even from non nintendo fanboys are just waiting for the date and the price...with the date being the more important of the two.
You get a chance to see the RE video?
That video does not even do it the slightest amount of justice, and yes I saw the RE video, it was a bit hard to get the 3D to work right on that one though, but the graphics were pants crappingly good for a handheld.

So what is the deal with this 3D on the 3DS, anyway? Some sort of overlapping screens in conjunction with the camera to achieve the 3D optical illusion similar to the kind found in those weird posters but without having to squint your eyes juuuuust right? It may not matter to me much in terms of games, but the technique itself must be interesting to pull off without the use of 3D glasses.

Browsing some of the shit the blog sites have been posting, man Gizmodo has been really retarding about with comments regarding the graphical capabilities of the 3DS.
Most reports say it works really good with the problem that you have to keep your head still but that's actually not a big deal or something. Kinda confusing. Nothing like the 3D poster thingy.
The TWiT network coverage of E3 is really iffy. It's amazing they can even do their live thing but man they should just stay away from gaming.

When the new Medal of Honor was announced I was at first like =D when it said PC release. Then when I went to preorder it on steam and it said $60 I was like D=.
Now I have to wait two years for it to drop to $50.

Basically techtv reborn. Very good for technology stuff but gaming is not a real strong suit. For instance they were pretty harsh on the 3DS despite not being able to see it.

Anyway, I've seen, held, and played around with the 3DS and it is everything the rumors have said except it's Avatar style 3D, not flying at your face 3D. So whatever bullshit complaints shitty tech blogs that haven't even seen it or have but are being gooses about it can go to hell. Gizmodo said it looked better than the Wii but not as good as the PSP, in the same sentence. Then they bitched about jaggies. They are absolutely retarded, just look at the Metal Gear and Resident Evil screens/footage. The graphics are phenomenal, crisp, and they look even better in person with the 3D going.

Is the 3D similar to that one hidden picture 3D game?
I mean, with those graphics, I couldn't give a shit less even if the 3D sucks, that's a hell of a library they've got coming for it.

Yes, though I haven't tried every tech demo, some reports from the ones I haven't tried yet claimed that a few instances of things feeling like they pop out just a little bit, but I can't verify it. So far everything that I've seen is depth adding 3D like in Avatar, and when it works it feels like you could reach in and grab the characters.
Sorry to be a pain in the ass but I just got home from work and have spent the last 20 minutes drooling over DKC2.0 and looking for the Nintendo conference video (the whole thing) alternatively.
