If Activision was involved they'd sell you a cardboard box peripheral for about $70.

That is an hilarious idea, but then you'd lose all the special abilities that come with the different camouflages.

Speaking of which, Snake is starting with the sneaking suit in the demo. That's a bit weird, isn't it? It's out of sequence with the original game. Also, Snake has that Peace Walker-style circle around him when sneaking. Is this going to be MGS3 + MGSPW + 3D?

I should just take this to the MGS thread. Sorry for cluttering up this Nintendo thread.

But does anyone know anything about the 3DS microphone? I mean, whether it exists or not?

To me it looks like it has Wii-level graphics, but playing to different strengths. Some aspects are better than Wii and some are worse. It looks like shaders and more advanced effects are easier to pull off on it (self-shadowing on the SSF4 shots). This can be inferred because the screens from devs who have worked a lot with advanced rendering look so much nicer than the ones from Nintendo, who has only had the Wii to work with.

    ss4.png

    2z72w61.jpg

It's really dependent on the developer, Nintendo games look around Wii level while some third parties look a bit better.

This Week in Tech, their archived footage is on Youtube. Live stuff at live.twit.tv

Basically techtv reborn. Very good for technology stuff but gaming is not a real strong suit. For instance they were pretty harsh on the 3DS despite not being able to see it.

Umm, how the goose can you be harsh on something you haven't seen yet?

People do it all the time 'round these parts
Anyway, I've seen, held, and played around with the 3DS and it is everything the rumors have said except it's Avatar style 3D, not flying at your face 3D. So whatever bullshit complaints shitty tech blogs that haven't even seen it or have but are being gooses about it can go to hell. Gizmodo said it looked better than the Wii but not as good as the PSP, in the same sentence. Then they bitched about jaggies. They are absolutely retarded, just look at the Metal Gear and Resident Evil screens/footage. The graphics are phenomenal, crisp, and they look even better in person with the 3D going.

Man, you're awfully hostile toward a pair of articles that are extremely positive toward the 3DS. That being said, I've just read both of their write-ups and didn't see the PSP/Wii comparison in either, not to mention their criticisms fall in line with impressions from several other write ups too. Again, EXTREMELY positive with with some caveats. Damn, apparently ecstatic just isn't quite excited enough :?

They must have edited out the stupidity of the comment, but I read it myself and comments on the article were pointing out what they said. So pardon me for calling them idiots for saying "Better graphics than Wii, but not as good as PSP." If it wasn't so retarded then they would not have edited it after the fact.

I never understood this complaint. They don't sell GBA games new in stores anymore, why should they keep selling hardware that supports the games?

When the Gamecube rolled around I wasn't pissed that I couldn't play my N64 games on it, and when the N64 was released I wasn't pissed that I couldn't play my SNES titles on it...so what gives?

I think the problem with graphics is that a lot of what they are showing are 3d-ified versions of N64 and PS2 games right now. I have the feeling that for the most part, graphic fidelity was not as important as getting the 3d stuff right (especially for what all seem to essentially just be glorified tech demos right now - not that most of these won't turn into games, but right now a lot of what they are showing doesn't appear to be from "in development" titles and more stuff they slapped together quickly using existing assets).

I'm guessing it's something similar to GameCube quality, which is not bad. It sounds like the resolution is *really* sharp though due to the small screen, so it ends up looking perhaps a little nicer than it actually is (hardware-wise)

This is going to be the longest wait ever. I hope I'll have the cash to preorder because when I decided to get a Wii it was like Feb and waiting in lines in Maine in Feb is frickin cold.

Won't be trading in my Lite though - not because of GBA games but because mine's signed by Gabe/Tycho/Wil Wheaton from PaxE.

In all seriousness, this is absolute genius. If not for MGS, there's gotta be a clever use for even some basic colour sampling in a game.

Unless I'm completely behind and it's been done on the DSi already?

Yeah honestly, it seems to me that the best Kirby games tend to be when they are not interating on the same formula over and over.

Like, I really liked Kirby's Dreamland. Then they came out with Kirby's Adventure that added in the copy ability, and that was great. But then Kirby's Dreamland 2 came out and it seemed lackluster to me. Same with Dreamland 3 on SNES (I seriously think I hate the animal pals, I don't know why, but they ruin those games somehow for me). But I liked Superstar, which was more of a minigame collection. I kind of gave up on Kirby for awhile, but I picked up Canvas Curse and loved that too.

So I don't know, maybe that is just me (and I certainly haven't played all of them). It could just be that these "different" games are different because they have more heart put into them. You get kind of the impression that the developers are maybe excited about this cool idea they came up with and are trying to make the best game they can with it, vs. "Oh, we need to churn out another sequel." Again, I don't know. But yeah, I'm excited for this too.

I will be keeping my DS Lite as well. However, I still have my DS phat. If GameStop does a trade in deal and the values are equal then I will absolutely trade the phat in. I was in a similar situation when I got my Lite. I had a GBA SP and my phat DS, and the two had the same value when traded in towards a Lite during the promotion. Buh bye SP. I still have my GBC, so I can still play the 4 or 5 original GB games I have.

Geez, now that I think about it I really didn't get into handheld gaming until the GBA, and even then only slightly. I only have 2 GBC games. After getting my DS I became a handheld maniac.
