Like no one is going to nag you for buying Gum in bulk, for not making your bed, or even better.... for buying expensive entertainment electrionics such as a 3ds.
If I ever have to justify myself to a woman for anything I want to buy or do I know this is not a relationship I want to be in.
Good luck being in a relationship with a sentient, biped humanoid.
The wife and I have completely seperate finances. As long as I take care of my half of the bills and whatnot, what I do with my money is my business. Guess what we never fight about? We have lived together for 12 years now and been married for 6 I would say it's working. Why people assume they need to have joint finances in a relationship is beyond me.

Because we aren't two single people living together; we're married. Ergo, we have joint finances which pay for all the together stuff (like houses, vacations, Christmas presents for family, medical bills, WoW accounts, etc.).
Of course, we both get a monthly amount of play money with which we can do whatever we want, but that's just good sense.

I would never share my finances with anyone else. My money is mine, her money is hers. If we do need something for the two of us we can pool together but apart from that we are totally independent financially.

My wife is super excited every time a new game system comes out, because that means that the next gift-giving holiday is taken care of. My wife bought me an N64, and I think I have purchased one system for myself since then.
Also, Nintendo has continued its trend of the two things it does best: releasing alien technology and making thing I didn't know I wanted.

I think it's funny Nintendo can get all this 3rd party awesomeness gushing out of their handhelds but the Wii is little more than a shovel-ware farm.

That still made them a ton of money, but regardless, I hope they learned enough to make things better for their console business.
Well Nintendo games have always been good. It's third party games that the wii sucks at. For high quality games on the Wii you basically have Nintendo, SquareEnix, and Capcom. I'm not sure what they can do about their 3rd party issues.
Edit: Wait, do they have SquareEnix? That might just be DS and I'm getting confused.

*highfives Ceno* No seriously my Wife is cool, but she curbs my instant gratification urge in a big way. And it's for my own good. Negotiating with her for stuff allows me to gauge how much I really want it.
so. . . have they described how the 3d works yet? If i have to look at the screen like its a magic eye then I'd rather shove an ice pick up my nose really far.
It's using a depth trick. No magic eye nonsense. The game generates a 'camera' in game using the hardware to give you the illusion of depth. As far as you see, it's 3D if you look at it dead on, blurry to the side, and if your eyes are tired it might give you a headache. Otherwise, it's gorgeous and easy to enjoy.

What're the dimensions of the 3DS, compared to the DSi XL? Every photo I've seen of the 3DS with hands present in some way make it seem really small. Handhelds that are too small are a pain to hold. Literally. My hands hurt after a short time.
Size (when closed):
Approximately 5.3 inches wide, 2.9 inches long, 0.8 inches tall.
Weight:
Approximately 8 ounces.
Look:
Final design is TBA.
Also I come bearing comparisons:
More accurate direct feed PSP for comparison:
It actually looks better graphically in person with the 3D and everything it really adds to it.

It might work for you, but 'totally independent financially' doesn't seem like much of a marriage to me. When you're sharing that many financial commitments it becomes much more effort sorting out who pays for what and making sure it's all equal and enough money is in the right places yadda yadda yadda, than just throwing all the money in one central place and simply trusting each other not to go buying things you can't afford.
No matter, we both want 3DSs so no issues of justification anywhere anyway!
If this thing hits around the holiday of next year, Nintendo better kick the assembly lines into super mega overtime months ahead of time. I would not be at all surprised to see a repeat of the Wii's first year. Here's hoping they learned from that ordeal.
I watched that hands on vid from earlier in the thread. I'm not sure if it's my mind seeing what I want it to see or if it's actually real, but I swore I could get a sense of the 3D in action. This seems odd considering that it's a video and that I'm blind in one eye.
Even with, from a power standpoint, 800 horizontal lines on the topscreen, there's still no optical drive hoovering power away from the battery like the PSP. I wouldn't be surprised if it has comparable battery life to existing DS models.
Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I can't help but wonder that if Nintendo has a magical screen that doesn't require glasses for you to see 3D images, then why the F are they putting it on a handheld? Do they not like money? What's the story?

Scaling it up (or at least with similar tech at CES) leads to resolution and cost problems. You also have to look at it from a relatively narrow angle. These aren't really problems with a handheld. The resolution doesn't need to be really high, cost is less of an issue due to the size, and the viewing angle isn't a problem like with a TV where you might watch it to the side.

She said that sounds like a fair deal...but she wants to play around with the 3DS too.
And yea, I know they won't all be launch games...but I'm sure one or two I want will be. :P

I have to stop my girlfriend from buying shit, as her game queue is longer than mine. Seriously.
And the purple 3DS made her very happy.

Some representative said that it was close to the DSi battery life.
That leaves too much room open to interpretation.
That's actually pretty good.

I hope they have display units up at the proper stores, to show it off to people.
