Level design at least more interesting than the old games, and it isn't being made by Rare.
Colour me cautiously interested as a result.

Was it just me or was there a severe lack of Kremlins in that trailer?
Are the Kremlins and K.Rool property of Rare or something?

Also, why does Donkey Kong need a sissy life meter now?

Well, Kremlings trophy's and kremling related material popped up in SSBB, so I would be pretty sure that Nintendo owns the rights.

It's possible the Kremlings are actually more "challenging" enemies, instead of the goomba equivalents. That said, most of the basic enemies look like they belong to the DK Jungle Beat world.

Nintendo owns every single bit of DKC. Kremlings were the goal keepers in both Mario Soccer titles.

    Jungle Beat looked better.
Can't ask for a better graphics match than between EAD Tokyo and Retro though.

I will probably get this as long as it doesn't suck. Only a couple of months ago my girlfriend hooked her SNES up and we played through the original DKC together.

I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy they made it 2d.

Also that sunset stage looked awesome; as did the entire trailer.

This will be a day one purchase, no questions.

My only request is that they reuse the underwater theme from DKC.

Retro is 100% first party. Owned entirely by Nintendo.

2nd party is just an unofficial term that non-developers use, to distinguish developers owned by a company.

So usually, we talk about Nintendo R&D being 1st party, where Retro or GameFreak would be 2nd party.

Gamefreak is technically 3rd party, and the Pokemon Company is a joint venture with Nintendo owning a majority stake.

Media Molecule is a good example of another first party satellite company.

Granted it will fail, but I just won't enjoy myself as much.

I don't care about the co-op at all to be honest.

I actually enjoy NSMBW better alone than with others and while DKC is one of my favorite platformers of all time, I didn't care for the sequels at all even though people still tell me they were better.

You know, something's that has bugged me for over a decade...

Why didn't Donkey Kong Country 3 just do a team-up of Donkey Kong and Dixie Kong instead of creating that abomination known as Kiddy Kong? There really was no need to have Donkey Kong get kidnapped by the same guy for a second game in a row just so you could replace him with a character with an identical moveset except with added crying due to being an infant (and/or "special").
Donkey Kong's name is in the title, why is he playing second banana to some chump that doesn't even have the DK initials?

I dunno, but Kiddy wasn't the worst of DKC3's problems. That game just felt lazy and uninspired as hell, especially coming out from 2.

Really? I thought DK3 was one of the best. The bosses were fun (and not recycled, that I remember), the overworld with exploration had enough secrets to be fun, without being annoying, and the levels were WAY more varied than the previous 2 games (the high jump level, the lightning strike level, the race level). Sure Kiddy wasn't great, but the gameplay was ridiculously solid.
