Um, no, guys, NSMBW isn't an easy game, unless you grew up on Mario games since age 3 or whatever.
NSMB is an easy game, aside from a few levels in the final world.
I know it's unfashionable to admit you find a game challenging, but really.
No it's not that it isn't challengeing. It's that compared to the hardest mario titles it's not that difficult.
Yes, but that's meaningless. Almost anything comes across as easy comapred to an exercise in designer sadism like Lost Levels.
By modern game standards, NSMBW is unusually difficult.
Actually, we did get our NES when I was 3. But aside from two levels in World 9, NSMBW wasn't very difficult overall. I did the whole game myself and got all the star coins in like two days.

there were certainly some levels that were hard, but it wasn't nearly as hard as you make it out to be imo. Certainly, it was much more of a challenge then the original DS version, but I still maxed out the lives. The challenge definitely increased if you went out of your way to get all of the star coins. I would say Galaxy 2 was much more of a challenge overall. Modern game standards, well, there is way way too much hand holding. Regening health, a checkpoint every 30 seconds, etc. Yes, games are not as hard as yesteryear most of the time (because games are longer in general, usually, instead of being super hard to increase game time), but NSMBW, had a nice middle-ground, leaning towards easy a little instead of hard.
In my opinion, if the game is difficult but really fun, then it you want to keep coming back for more. It wasn't until I got older (with improved reaction time) that I could beat Mario 3, I just couldn't do it when I was younger (although I somehow beat Mario1 when I was 4, still don't understand how I did that to this day), but that didn't mean I didn't play the shit out of it.

Are there any stand-out music tracks hemes like in DCK 1 & 2?
Kinda getting the hang of the enemy bouncing, but it's still not 100%. My theory (after unlocking and playing 1-K) is that the reason for it is that some obstacles are built around you bouncing off the enemy at the "normal" height. And if the game isn't "sure" that you're trying to do a super bounce, you don't do it. (Yes, this is the kind of shit that pops into my head when I have this much trouble with something that should be simple).
So yeah 1-K still eludes me after 30+ tries, but I'm getting better. Surprisingly, I unlocked 2-K and did it on my 3rd try. I got to the end and was just like "that's it?" That level was pretty awesome though. Not as good as 3-2, but awesome.
Also, speaking of obstacles, anyone else find it weird that the ceilings in this game are about 100x more treacherous than the floors or enemies?

You guys are making me want to play this now, but I don't get off till later.
I also have company coming over tonight, and my wife would get really mad at me if I ignored my guests and played this instead. :P

Weird. I blazed through Galaxy 2 (not on all 120 stars yet, but that's about patience), and I'm still stuck in world 5 or something of NSMBW.
I think it's lack of every-level saving. Leaving that out is idiot design.
Also, this game is incredible
The time trials are pretty brutal though. I can only manage a silver on the first level. It's mostly due to the shake around the controller to roll though.
Hit world 4 today and the game suddenly took a turn for the much, much harder. Before I'd only seen the Super Guide pig at levels 1-K and 2-K (3-K was cool but absurdly easy, beat the level with all five puzzle pieces on my very first try). Now I've died 10+ times on two out of the first three levels in the world alone.
Andross I guess? He was kind of annoying for a bit.
It was totally Bongo Bongo. Also if you thought he was annoying then just try doing the time trial. 2:23 to do the rocket stage and the boss. Good luck. It took me forever to finally do it with a shining gold.
Just got this earlier, and played through the first world solo. As it is, my wife and I are unsure if we should co-op; she likes to blaze ahead, I like to look around. Somehow, it wasn't so problematic in NSMBWii and Kirby's Epic Yarn (what we played of it, anyway).
Right now, I'm just using the Wii Remote, NES-style. Feels simpler that way, though I still wish rolling was mapped to the 1 button. The different jumping, grabbing, and rolling is taking some adjustment as well, but it's been little problem, save for a few rolling-jumps, or forgetting that you no longer roll further when you hit an enemy.
Which, really, is my only problem with the game: why mess with what worked so well? Holding Jump when landing on an enemy to jump higher, different rolling "physics," I guess you might call them...
The first boss annoyed me a little as well, with cheap hit detection. I was clearly not in the range of those spikes, yet I took damage anyway. At least you don't take collision damage from merely running into him, so that's a plus.
Oh well. Still fun overall.
Just a few questions: is there anything to smacking the crud out of a Tiki when you beat a boss? I wasn't sure whether I was in control or not, and I tried shaking the remote, but only got "1" hit in. Is there a benefit to smacking him around more? Any tips for that part to maximize results?
Also, what do the KONG letters do, since they're no longer about lives?

Count me among those who picked up the game today. Game is good, as everyone already knows. I've played through the first four areas, with things beginning to get hairy for me in area 4 - I was prompted for Super Kong a few times, but resisted. Good thing I have all those lives and over 200 coins for going forward...
found this for £29.99 on amazon (£37.99 everywhere else) so im all ready for its goddamn release date this friday grr, i thought we were past this different world release dates shit?
No way, there's so much text to translate into different languages for a European release. There's probably enough to keep a professional translator busy for a whole day. Every extra day is basically a one week delay.
I played this last night with my friend off a Gamefly rental. I had a lot of fun. Despite the controls being a little hard to get used to, I definitely found a lot of things that reminded me of the old DKC games on SNES. In short, I had a lot o' fun.
There were definitely a handful of those 'oh snap' moments, and we only did the first 'world' or so.
I hate how Classic Controller support gets thrown out the window because of some Nintendo mandated (I assume) waggle.
You're telling me
Playing it isn't nearly as bad as you might think but still
Nintendo you have an officially licensed Classic Controller right there, and it's in the exact shape and layout of the last system that had a DKC game!

The waggle is a serious issue with time trials. Normally yeah it isn't that bad. But time trials require constant rolling. You have to keep rolling and jumping, and the waggle screwing up will screw your run up. That's another problem with the times being so strict. They're too strict to rely on waggle so much, so I don't know what they were thinking.

It's a remix, but I'm fond of the music played in the silhouette levels.

This is mostly pretty good too:
You just beat me to posting about this. Is there a reason to do this, or is it just for completionists?
Just made it to World 8 though. Gonna go get some refreshments and play through it.
I'll worry about picking up all the collectibles after that.
Completionists and masochists, basically. It is not for the faint of heart. Haha. Hearts.
This game is absolutely, astonishingly awesome.
Also, beat the game.
Last boss is
No. Some people have speculated they might add something to the Gallery, but nothing confirmed.

Hmmm, I wonder whether you could do something similar and just map the 'waggle' to the A or B button with the wiimote only setup.
I've been avoiding updates because i have the homebrew channel and I thought they would uninstall it, but apparenlty not.
edit: oh nice they do have a code to map waggle to B already.
