Check this thread for mods and such and try whatever tickles your fancy. I think going through a no mods playthrough first would be best, just my opinion.

This new model will be tons quieter, plus will increase my hd space from 20GB to 250GB, which will let me download/store a whole lot more stuff without having to scrounge for space all the time. Also, it will allow me to go to 1080p using the HDMI out.

but, some dudes are swapping in 120gb elites
it's a little wasteful
and as an industrial design student, my opinion on the exterior is:
If it came out like that I would have bought it instead of a PS3, it is that pretty.
It is much like my opinion on the Alfa Romeo 8c Spider
Its so god damn pretty that nothing else matters
it helps that it has supercar speed, with musclecar handling, sounds shitty, but it is actually perfect

It's not really that wasteful. Even the elite is loud and has red-ring issues. I bought an elite just after they released it and I'm worried that it'll die any day now. I'm planning to buy the new one after the rush dies down a bit. Also, the elites that get traded in will be resold and put back to use.

Well, pre-ordering for the next shipment at least.
Quieter in every aspect, from disc drive spinning to the power brick.
Supposed to run cooler, too I believe.
That and the new motherboard is named "Valhalla".
