Gadget for international travel: ipad vs netbook vs iphone4
Well it's as it sounds.
I currently have a 3gs and can get the $299 price for a 32gb iPhone 4 but....
We are going to the philippines with an unlocked global blackberry so don't need the iPhone 4 for that...
I'm also thinking the battery on the iphone4 is pretty bad vs ipad
So i don't know this rly is more ipad vs netbook actually in a way.
I have about $500 to spend and while i love apple products I know a MacBook is out of my price range unless I get a hot streak at work and get some good comissions.
The ipad is tempting due to the battery life and ease of use however we need to be able to transfer photos. Yes the ipad has a connector for that but it's max I'd what... 64gb? If that? And the last vacation was 58gigs of photos and videos...
Honestly, if this trip isn't for business, I don't see a reason why you can't just bring multiple memory cards for your camera and worry about all that until after the trip.
in all honesty, you should just get a netbook. for starters, the netbook is going to be more versatile than either the iPhone or iPad. wireless is fairly available, at least in more metropolitan parts of the PI, so that won't be a problem. and if you're looking for a place to back up your photos, i would NOT trust an iPad for that task.
something more practical to consider: an iPhone or an iPad in the Philippines will make you a much larger target for pickpockets and thieves. and i'm not stereotyping here, it just will.
Well when i go back home my wife stays so it's a communication device as well. Ipad has ease of use but that's about it. We aren't investing in more memory cards either and will offload the photos to a portable hdd. This time though I think netbook although it's more complex and not great battery may be better.
Good point re: crime. She went over with her blackberry 2 yrs ago before they were available there and had no problems. Were going to Davao which is a pretty safe place.
We live in Vegas now and she had her iPhone stolen in a departmen store yet she spend 2 months in RP with zero issues lol.
