Diagnose Me

Alright, Internet Doctor time.

I am ill. Not ill enough to bother my (horrible) doctor, but ill enough that I'd like to know what's wrong with me in case I can do anything to make myself feel a little better.

I'm a fit and otherwise healthy 23 year old male with a good diet and do lots of exercise. Symptoms: Swollen lymph nodes in the armpits that come and go and are very red and tender. Similar swelling in (one!) nipple. General malaise and lethargy. Regular stomach cramps.

Most of that could be written off as hypochondria or stress or whatever, but it's the swollen lymph nodes that make me think it's something actually real: they're tender to the point of hurting when I raise my arms above my head.

Any guesses?

I'm sorry, but this isn't a physician's forum. Go to a doctor. Especially if you have swollen lymph nodes! I could just as easily say you have a lymphoma that's going to metastasize to your brain and give you astrocytomas and it'd be just as valid as the next poster.

Is it possible for you to see a different doctor?

    Go to the hospital maybe?

Lymph node swelling is srs bsns.

I've gotten swollen things in my armpits from roll on deodorant. The aluminum can do it. My roommate was just having this problem when he changed to a new kind.

But the other stuff... go to the doctor, regardless. Or call a nurse hotline at least. We can't diagnose you because A.) We aren't doctors B.) We can't examine you.

This is really something you need to see a doctor on.

But some ideas of what it could be: lyme disease (ticks -- do you live in a wooded area?), cat-scratch fever (do you own cats?), lymphoma. Lymph diseases are few and far between, so they're usually pretty easy to pin down. Find a new doctor if your current doctor is horrible.

o_O According to? Cancer can progress and regress because your immune system is trying to fight it off. There are multiple stages of cancer growth all dealing with the immune system. The immune system is constantly trying to kill it and the size might even show a difference in size because of this fight. Also, it could be a lymphoma and an infection. My point still stands; don't rely on the internet to diagnose you.

True. But for someone who has a horrible doctor it puts their mind at ease that they won't end up on Mystery Diagnosis either. ;-)

I want to add that I'm not trying to be a dick, it's just that I think you'd rather pay the $$ to at least see a professional than rely on unlicensed people who can't see you to tell you what you have and then be wrong.

I'm going with, its just your second set of arms coming in.

But seriously, if your doctor is so horrible you don't want to go see him/her, switch doctors, don't ignore these kind of symptoms. Not to induce people to be hypochondriacs, but there are a lot of conditions where catching them early makes a huge difference. Like say, cancer.

On a more serious note, you should probably find a good Endocrinologist (go to your horrible doctor and ask for a referral).

Not to worry you, but my grandmother, a spry young thing even at 87, had similar symptoms and ended up having breast cancer and lymphoma. She felt fine, except for some minor pain and sensitivity, and it took a lot of convincing to get her to finally go and see a doctor. The treatments she underwent were rougher on her than the cancer was, at least by her account. She's fine now, cancer is gone after lots of treatment and several surgeries, and the doctors say she'll most likely make it another 10 years easily.

Good on you for deciding to go to a doctor. I hope you get good news. =)

yeah the best an internet forum can do for you is scare you out of your wits

without a good physical examination and asking the right questions, every single symptom is shared by trite and serious diseases alike, and with the variety of people that visit the internet, not even the rarest of diseases can be ruled out in good conscience.

But swollen lymph nodes? Pretty hard for a hypochondriac to fake. Have fun at the doctor's
