Reasons to play non lightsaber wielding classes:

Trooper: See Hope Cinematic trailer. Nuff said.
Smuggler: Smugglers epitomize adventure, gunslinging, alternate semi illegal methods of combating the bad guys, and being the all round jack of all trades. Also, Han shot Greedo first so, roll that shit!

Bounty Hunter: See Boba Fett and jetpacks. Also rockets. And some badass Mandalorian looking armor sets. All the badassery of a trooper with none of the scruples.
Imperial Agent: I'm interested in rolling one of these after a Jedi for the story they have set up for these guys, as well as the allure of mixing illegal and covert tactics with high tech and sniper rifles. It takes balls to impersonate a crime lord so you can then wiretap a Hutt's palace for your equally threatening Imperial handler. Constant exterior danger and intrigue.

I'm not rolling a Jedi for the saber per se, but because I too enjoyed the old space wizard style of Jedi presentation and because the thought of righting wrongs across the galaxy as a robed female Twi'lek, while occasionally sticking my saber in some mans, just suits me fine. Robes and peaceful communion with the Force all the way.

Also, it seems like they're pushing the Jedi/Sith classes towards the tank/healing roles... so if you're going to have an absurd amount of two classes, it's nice if it's the tank/healing classes at least :)

Actually yah, it's kind of a master stroke. If you know a huge swath of your population is going to play Jedi and Sith, then put the Jedi/Sith in to roles a lot of people don't necessarily prefer in other games. SW:TOR may be the first MMO of all time that has an over abundance of tanks and healers.

My first character will likely be a Consular, because

    a) I like healers
    b) Force Slam
    c) Force Slam
    d) you can lift people up and slam them into the ground using the Force
    e) Force Slam

I think Agents also get little remote droids, like what Bao-Dur had, to assist them in their awesomeness. Separate from companions.

I remember from that Darth Hater video interview when the developer was talking about how the various non-jedi/sith classes and thier stories plays like.

I think he said something along the lines of that an Imperial Agent is something like a spy novel, Bounty hunter's a Western, Smuggler is a crazy, high-adventure thing (I'm hoping something like Crimson Skies/ 30s-40s Pulp novels) and I'm guessing Troopers will be a war movie.

I wonder how much of a good guy you can be on the Empire side.

Because I really don't want to just go around murdering children or anything. Killing evil guys? Sure. I'd be happy going to that guy whose raped someone and setting him on fire as punishment. But I don't want to be a complete dick just to be a complete dick.

If I can do that on the Sith side, I'd definitely be interested.

Sith don't really think of themselves as "Evil", per say.
They just happen to believe in "Might makes Right" and Survival of the Fittest.

That's a good thing to remember when you choose to RP an Imperial toon.

Yah, I hate that view of the empire. The empire, and Sith, aren't out raping babies every day. They believe in order, order by force if necessary. They also feel that "might makes right", as Bloodshed says. The strongest should lead, etc. etc.

One of my best friends was in prison for a couple of years for some non-violent drug offenses, and he tells horror stories about what happens to guys that go to prison for messing with kids. Even hardened criminals, for the most part, believe children are 100% off limits, and they don't take kindly at all to guys in the pen for touching or raping little kids.

I wonder if Mike is going to try and get all the penny arcade people on one server to face off against the player vs. player people again.

Honestly, I'm hoping republic, but I do plan to play through all the classes eventually because they all have different storylines.

Has he expressed interest in this game? He didn't seem too hyped up on Galaxies when it was set to come out. It was something about the MMO genre not being the proper pace and style for Star Wars. Which, it makes sense.

This is extremely off topic, but it always bothers when people applaud this shit, as if they should be lauded for raping somebody. I'm happy enough calling everyone involved a piece of shit and moving on.

    Those comics are ancient.

We have way more information compared to back then. Things are coming into focus. Back then it was abstract. It's easier to like the idea of something, but knowing more and more of what it is could change that.

As I recall in one of the podcasts they did a long time ago was that Mike loved the art style of Kotor and that it nailed the Star Wars universe. He's also a giant neckbeard for Star Wars in general, so I'm guessing we'll hear something about it from them around open beta.

Sith blow up planets and murder countless billions of innocent human beings. They are murderers and tyrants in the official films and in Knights of the Old Republic.

Back when I played WoW, PvP had about 2 guilds at most while we were fielding somewhere between 10-12 guilds, and I was in one of the primarily PvP ones. Given even numbers, they were pretty good, but we'd consistently beat them more than we lost.

I dunno if another webcomic MMO war is a good idea. After Mike, Jerry, Porkfry, and Kara left the game / server, the whole spirit of the damn thing was lost. Few people remembered that we had rules about the PvP Online guilds (don't camp them being the big thing), fewer wanted to enforce it, and a lot of people got fucking rabid about it when I brought it up, telling me to fuck off and such.

While I think there's going to be a lot of Jedi/Sith on day one, let's not underestimate the popularity of the Bounty Hunter just yet.

I think a number of the videos I've seen make a compelling reason to roll a trooper as well.

Then again if this game still does a healer/tank/dps type thing (the E3 demonstration leads me to believe that's what it is), it's probably a good thing that the Jedi anyway can do all three roles (not sure if this is confirmed).

Can't really blame people for taking this view, though. Look at the empire in the original trilogy - they're not even characterized beyond Vader and Palpatine. They're faceless, one-dimensional, intergalactic puppy-kickers.

I like the idea of adding a bit more complexity to both sides. I think if anyone can pull it off, Bioware can.

Weren't they even talking about all of the classes being able to fill each roll somewhat? I remember one video (maybe it was on G4) discussing Smugglers being able to toss out some heals, or Troopers doing a bit of crowd control.

And yea, after watching the E3 videos, I dropped any thought of playing a Jedi in favor of the Trooper. Looks fuckawesome.
