I couldnt find places anywhere - being new to Android I thought, since it was part of a "Google Maps" update, it would literally be IN Google Maps.
It's just a seperate app. Look at me, Im learning!
Also I really think Latitude is a very, very cool idea, but I know no one who uses it.
Actually, thats been my only upsetting thing with all of Android - so much cool shit that absolutely no one I know uses. Free Space, the parking app? Brilliant idea, Im the only one in my city who uses it, so its pointless. None of my friends use FourSquare or have any desire to. I know no one who uses Latitude. So much potential for cool stuff, I just need more tech saavy friends.

I've a few friends with whom I can use latitude with, but it's not as convenient. Say I'm meeting up someone and leaving by bike, I left latitude on so he could check up on progress but in standby it won't update GPS location so that doesn't work. Hence not using it.
I am utterly astonished that froyo for the incredible leaked and yet there is still no update for the original droid. If they pull another shitfest like what happened wikth 2.1 I am going to be so upset

So I made my way down to the local Verizon store in the mall to test out the X and the Incredible, and now I don't know what to do. Impressions from my toying in the spoiler.
My hands apparently aren't as big as I thought, as the X felt just a bit too big for one handed use. The Incredible was damn near perfect, though. As someone mentioned before, a 4" screen would probably be the sweet spot. The Inc felt like it had a bit of room to grow, but I wouldn't want it to get much bigger than it is now. X also felt a bit wider to my hands.
I preferred the display on the Inc, but it's entirely possible that the Inc on display was an older one with the AMOLED and not the SLCD that recent ones are apparently shipping with. I don't know enough about screen tech to know if the Inc will lose that vibrancy with the change, but I'm assuming it will. I liked the display of the X just fine, but preferred the more vibrant display on the Inc. I work nights and hibernate during the day, so the daylight thing isn't as big of an issue for me as it is for others. It is something I'm considering before making my decision, though.
Sense is pretty to look at, but I'm not sure how I feel about its usability. Perhaps trying the X first swayed my opinion (I've never played with either UI before, so both were brand new experiences for me), but overall I just liked the X's UI more. The Inc did feel a bit snappier, but the X felt plenty fast enough to me. And with Froyo arriving soon for the X (rumor has it that it's leaked for the X), this probably won't be an issue. I seemed to have more issues with the Inc in terms of it registering my choices, but I was having some issues with the X as well. I chalk it up to inexperience with the tech and the uncomfortableness of having a giant anti-theft mechanism attached to the center of the back of each phone (thus making both kind of a pain in the ass to work with).
I didn't really play around with the apps on either phone that much. The resizable widgets on the X were nice. I tried out Swype on the X, and OMFG. I will never, ever, EVER go back to a physical keyboard. If I do decide to go the Inc route, that is the first thing I'm getting for it. Apps I figure is kind of a moot point as I imagine there are better alternatives for pretty much every stock app on each phone. The whole "no custom" thing for X really has me trying to decide if it's going to be an issue, and the best I can come to is that I won't know until I actually spend a lot of time with my new phone. I simply don't have the knowledge to foresee whether it'll be an issue or not.
So, for the moment, I'm back to leaning more towards the Incredible. I do have a couple questions that, once answered, should finally lead to me making a decision.
1) X's stock suite of apps apparently ranges from decent to bleh. The brief bits of toying around with them seemed to confirm as much, but I got the same impression (though a bit less so) with the Inc. To those that have put some miles on them, how do the stock suites fare on the Inc and X?
2) I've seen that X is getting flash support with Froyo. Is this a feature of Froyo, or is it phone specific? I know the Inc has Flash Lite, but was wondering if it'll have full Flash like X come 2.2.
3) Both cameras seem to kind of blow in dark settings/at night, which is to be expected. I've seen photos taken with the X in such settings, but none with the Inc. Is it comparable to the X in such settings (lots of noise and artifacts)? When it comes to daylight photos, the X's camera seemed to fare a bit better than the Inc's (X seemed to have sharper detail), but I realize that photos have more to do with the person taking them than the hardware.
4) I know I won't get a definitive answer on this, but how essential is rooting and having custom ability? Is it another case like the PSP, or is it more of a situation where it's fun to play around with but ultimately not all that necessary?
Pretty sure that's it. Thanks in advance for the help. The help I've gotten so far has been excellent.
I'm now the proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy S.
Seems to be good so far, I'm not noticing any of the issues I've heared rumoured so far (e.g. poor GPS).
Time to start installing apps.

I've had my X for a week now. I have pretty small hands but found that I quickly became accustomed to the phones size. I love the size of the screen. It makes web browsing and reading (with Kindle) a breeze. My buddy has a Nexus One, which has the same screen size as the Incredible and it just seems tiny to me now.

2) It is Froyo that supports it. I have Flash running on my Droid with a 2.2 rom on it.
3) It could be the stock camera app. I use a 3rd party app for my camera and it works great on my Droid. It is not a handheld camera by any means but it is great for a phone camera. I would think there would be this option with the Inc and X.
Question about the stock Gmail application. Something that really annoys me is often when I open it, the app often starts with some random message open, rather than going to the inbox....
You can create a shortcut to Gmail Label = Inbox instead of a shortcut that simply launches the Gmail app.
Can someone remind me what features 2.2 should add?
I can remember:
Flash,
Installing apps from the browser,
Streaming music from your PC (when they release the PC side software),
Improved performance,
Integrated hotspot support,
Translation from twitter (Mark Moons is apparently HTC exec over the Benelux):
'We're starting from tomorrow with the Andoid 2.2 upgrades for Desire, other devices to follow later.
(Which means that not everyone is receiving the upgrade tomorrow, there is a bandwidth limit)'
So I'm not sure if that means the UK and other regions are included or not. Probably are
Plugged in a purchase for the Droid X. I found a 10% off promo code online that worked, which netted me a whopping $4 net savings (code took $20 off the order, but I had $16 in tax). Took the free 2 day shipping as I'm going to be waiting for the phone to ship for a few days regardless. Thanks for the feedback. Now I need to find me a case.

Endgadget says it's not 100% certain to happen tomorrow. I would at least take it as news that it'll happen any day now, though.
HTC Europe director Mark Moons caused quite a stir this morning when he tweeted that the company would begin rolling out Android Froyo updates to devices tomorrow, starting with the Desire, but we wouldn't get too excited yet -- HTC tells us that it's possible a rollout will begin tomorrow, but nothing's finalized yet pending some final testing. We've certainly got our fingers crossed -- and we're sure Desire owners the world over will be hitting that System Updates button nonstop for the next few days.
My Droid X was just delivered to me today. Gotta get some cleaning done before I can play so I'm charging it up at least.
I'm a newbie to smartphones any tips for first timers?
You got any first impressions? I'm still on the fence about the whole Droid X v. Incredible thing? My girlfriend wants the Incredible because she has tiny hands, but I think my meaty paws could handle a Droid X.

Oh sweet, my Desire just arrived despite only getting the email saying they shipped it the other day.
What's the deal with charging for the first time. Just leave it plugged in all day?
Usually I use new gear right out of the box until the battery is dead, and then leave it plugged in until the battery is fully charged + 1 hour (just to be sure). Although I don't think any of the new Li-Poly batteries have the "memory" problems like older batteries.
Edit: Also, put 2.2 on my Incredible yesterday. It's definitely faster, and the flash support is way better then what HTC had hacked into 2.1.

I also tried it out this morning... at first I thought "ok so this is a little weird" and then it just got creepy... like it's reading my mind. "Now how'd you know what word to pick out of the garbage line I just gave you??"
Swype is pretty awesome. The Ars Technica article on it made me seek it out on the Droid X when I test drove it yesterday. I noticed that it didn't bring up words that end with a double of the same letter (boss), but I was simply testing it out and not trying to form sentences. If I actually wrote a sentence like "I hate my boss" then perhaps it would have picked up on it. Even if it didn't, you can still use the Swype pad like a normal touch keyboard, or even activate speech to text with it. I can't ever see myself going back to a physical keyboard after using it, though. I never tried a traditional touch pad, but I don't see myself even trying it after having used Swype.
