HTC is a good company, and the N1 is a good phone.
I mean, HTC hasn't given me any guff about swapping out phones, what else should I do? Yell at some poor CSR who has nothign at all to do with the hardware issue I'm having? While my two replacements phones have been defective, HTC themselves have been nothing but helpful.
Samsung Captivate and other Galaxy S owners: How is your battery life? I've been able to hit two days between charges, and I'm a pretty big user. I'm surprised at some of the comments I've seen about the supposed horrible battery life. Anyone have thoughts on this?
Even on days I work and so can't use my phone too much, just the minimal amount of texting and wordfeuding and such that I do, by the time my phone has been unplugged 12-13 hours it goes to yellow and tells me I need to recharge my battery (at which point, I noticed, it won't play music anymore. that may be a setting i can change somewhere). It works out better for me if I remember to charge it every night.
According to the battery usage statistics 50-60% of my battery is being consumed by the display being on, and most of the time my screen is on the lowest brightness (I only turn the it up when I am outside and it is bright out) and that is a display on time of 2-3 hours.
So my contract with sprint is up in a few days. I was considering going with the Evo (though I know there were some issues at launch, but haven't paid much attention since)
But now I see there's another phone (Samsung Epic I guess) that is also coming out soon. Any suggestions?
I have a Samsung Rant currently, which I am very happy with, but I'm also interested in an Android phone. I really do like phones with slide-out keyboards, which makes the epic quite interesting for me.
I'm trying to combo ssh using Connectbot with Android-vnc to have full remote control of my home linux box from where ever I am. I'm so close. I just need to figure out the tunneling. I found a guide and followed it, but got an error in the port forwarding.

No you're totally right, I can only imagine how frustrating the whole thing must be.
Taking bets on whether your next one is LCD or OLED?

I would guess sLCD. And they can't even keep THOSE in stock.
Also, Verizon looks to continue its batshit crazy pace of Android phone releases....

did they eever even manufacture any with slcds? I mean, they aren't making any new ones anymore. I know that the incredibles and desires moved to SLCD, but I don't recall any confirmation that Nexus ever did.

I really, really want to like Shelves, but I haven't found an option for importing music libraries from iTunes on a Windows machine. I'm definitely not manually inputting all of the info for the hundreds of albums I have.
Did anyone get the OTA Froyo update for their Incredibles yet? How is it so far?

Just installed the OTA manally with Root. It appears to be very snappy and seems to run well - haven't had much time to torture test it yet though. I'm really interested to see what the battery life is like on this build, planning on running it down and doing a full charge.
Couple things of note:
-Looks like the fixed the signal bars = actual signal strength problem with the latest included baseband/radio update that comes with the OTA (2.15.00.07.28). We'll see if it improves the overall signal...
-The trackpad is way more responsive now.
-Flash appears to work reasonably well, better for video and simple animations/games - complex games and animations seem to chug pretty hard. Each flash window has a nice full-screen option when you long-press it, and you can set it to not download flash ads until you want them, to save on bandwidth and avoid flash ads.
-Can't wait to try all the cool new Google toys like ChromeToPhone and voice commands!

Okay, so I rooted my droid 2 and am completely unable to get its 3g wifi to work with my laptop. My laptop will recognize the wifi signal and even connect to it sometimes, but I can't use it to browse/download/etc. I've tried both Wireless Tether and Barnacle and neither seem to work, though my ipod can connect just fine.
anyone know why my touchscreen is suddenly shit on my evo?
This morning I woke up and double tapping would not zoom in on websites no matter what. A restart fixed that but now its incredibly inaccurate and sluggish. This sucks.

I have the Captivate and I could go two days without charge. That's with watching videos on my train ride to/from work, some wordfeud, texting, emailing and listening to music on lunch. I've never had a problem with battery life.
So on the X how does one get rid of the default apps or do you have to root it?
Not sure on the X, but I know on a lot of other phones you need root to get rid of the manufacturer's bloatware. They seem so dead-set on making you keep those stupid programs for some reason :P
Speaking of the Nexus One - apparently Vodafone NZ has just got a big stock in and will start selling it soon. Which is odd
Not really, actually. They're still manufactured, and Korea Telecom just jumped on board a couple months ago as a carrier. They're just no longer sold by Google in North America. Should be doing just fine in Asia, though.

It's great. Some nice improvements, but the Incredible was already buttery smooth.
So I'll soon be going from an old clamshell phone to a Galaxy/Captivate. What are the accessories I should make sure I have to avoid going insane at not being able to do neat things?

To my knowledge the manufacturing has been completely halted, there is still just existing stock.
I mean, there is zero point in manufacturing new units since the Desire exists.

accessories, or apps? As far as accessories, the only accessories I have so far are a micro usb car charger and an invisishied for the screen only.
It reminded me to buy the full version. Good thing it updates via the regular free market version considering the paid android market is still unavailable here.
Just washed my fucking Nexus One in the laundry like a god damn moron. Was only in there for a minute or two but it was completely soaked. Im assuming its broken.
What are my options here? I dont think I can even get a new one since they arent sold anymore, so whats my next best option?

seems pretty sweet. I'm deciding how long I want to keep my phone umm 'standard' for lack of abetter term. I sort of want to know how it works without adding anything big to it.
but then again this seems awesome, may just install it asap when I get the phone.
I put LauncherPro on after seeing the customization going on around these parts and haven't looked back, and that was about a week after getting my first smartphone (the X). 1 screen now as opposed to 7, it's a beauty of simplicity and functionality.
Yeah, no rice and the BX is closed. Drying it out next to a lamp, guess I'll try it tomorrow.
A marine buddy of mine said that the first thing you do with.electronics in water is take out the battery and put it in a toaster oven / regular oven at the lowest heat along with the phone. Something like 120 degrees fahrenheit for a few hours.

He saved my LG VX 8600 this way.
... what ovens do you have which warm to a glorious 50 degrees centigrade? Even on the lowest setting...
Anyway, I'd be leery of even that relatively low temperature, since heat promotes corrosion at the same time it promotes evaporation. Electronics that get hot are often designed to handle 50+ degrees, I suppose, but perhaps not 50 degrees when wet.
Rice is great, though, as are assorted dessicants you find in shoeboxes.

After my wife dropped her phone in the toilet (some random low end LG flip phone), I set the oven to the lowest setting (180 F perhaps), and left it in there for a few hours. Worked fine after that. I'd consider this a last resort and had intended to only leave it in there for 30-40 minutes, but I forgot about it.

Accessories. The screen protector is the kind of stuff I need to know about.
I also could use recommendations on stuff like earbuds and something to use for handsfree stuff. My current phone used proprietary stuff for the latter and I just used some generic earbuds that came with a game packin (NOLF2) from years back for the former.
Also, is there any benefit from picking up a USB to micro-USB cable if I already have a micro SD card reader? Like anything neat I get to do by actually having the phone hooked up to a computer?

I'd just like to point out that doesn't look nearly as awesome as the actual EVO's back:

e: apparently September. Never mind.
You should lamp it for a day, then buy some rice and put it in that for a couple of days. The worst thing you can do is turning it on too soon.
