You could do a Birthday Tournament where you have to play as the character with the closest birthday to your own.
ie. According to the Street Fighter wiki, Dan's birthday is November 25th, so if your birthday is closer to that than any other character, you have to play Dan. Some characters (like Akuma) don't have listed birthdays though, so I guess they wouldn't be playable (or maybe use them as filler if there are some huge gaps between character birthdays so you wouldn't end up with a bunch of people getting the same character).
Would need to put together a complete list of the character birthdays first, of course.

It just so happens that Vega's birthday is the same as mine...it was always meant to be.
Birthday tournament is definitely the weirdest one so far.
I am enamored of the ones where your opponent picks your character for you, with characters gradually getting used up. I'd like to set it up that you know ahead of time who you're going to play, though, to get some practice. The two are difficult to combine.
I had some spare time, so went ahead and found all the birthdays for anyone interested.
Strangely enough, Vega shares his birthday with another character. And July and November are both loaded with character birthdays.
January 1: Juri
Janaury 6: Cammy
January 27: Dudley AND Vega(Claw)
February 12: Blanka
February 14: Ken
March 1: Chun Li
March 12: Gen
March 15: Sakura
April 17: M.Bison(Dictator)
April 18: Cody
April 23: Fei Long
June 1: Zangief
July 1: Makoto
July 2: Sagat
July 3: Rose
July 18: Crimson Viper
July 21: Ryu AND T.Hawk
July 30: Rufus
September 4: Balrog(Boxer)
October 29: El Fuerte
October 31: Dee Jay
November 3: E. Honda
November 5: Abel
November 13: Hakan
November 22: Dhalsim
November 25: Dan
December 6: Ibuki
December 14: Gouken
December 23: Guile
Adon, Akuma, Guy, and Seth don't have listed birthdays, but there are no May or August birthdays so perhaps they could be randomly thrown in there to fill the gap some.

Another way to run that is the exception rule. Player gets to pick 4 people that you can't choose for him.
For instance my exceptions are: Hakan,Juri,Dan,Gen. That means you can make me pick any character except those. Mix in best of 3 games and not repeating any chars would be pretty fun.
I'm all for a Random Mirror Match tourney. The host uses a random number generator to determine the character and then both participants can decide what Ultra they want.

Yeah, this is what I was considering as well. I think it would be entertaining to see people try to figure out everyone's fourth or fifth alt to avoid.
I'll crunch some numbers for some permutations of this. I also like the random mirror match idea. And the "fight a terrible matchup" idea as well.

Oh man, my birthday is March the first. What are the odds?
Opposite of Sagat, the window for playing as Balrog(Boxer) is absolutely massive.
I would be Boxer!
Also, glad to have finally caught up with this thread...gone for two weeks for my honeymoon and I have like 100 pages to go through!
My wife watched the EVO SSF4 finals with me and she got REALLY into it despite not knowing any of the players, so that was awesome. She wanted Mike Ross to go all the way.

Like...1 in 365? :P
I'd like to see the math behind that.
1 in 365 is wrong. Doesn't take into account the possibility of a leap year. Or the occasional leap seconds for that matter. Or maybe a massive earthquake that pushes the Earth into a slightly different orbit, changing the length of a year. Or about a billion other things that can gum it up.
G4 is airing something they're calling "Xplay vs Capcom" on July 20th. Which would explain Sessler's presence. This is good news, as even a normal person can watch fighting games and get interested. Attack of the show even had a blurb about Daigo winning and showed him looking stoned/stoic next to Ricky O during play.
Although they'll edit out "I could totally have taken a leak".

Okay, 1 in 366 then according to how a year exists at this moment in time.
Happy?

does coalescing from the dark thoughts in men's minds count as being born?
He's gone through some bodies (right?) but wasn't he born with like the gypsy-like people Rose is from?
And I like the birthday thing. Make us try a random character even if they don't want to?
It's good for their game, and the rest of us (since we'll be playing them).
Unless you're one of those terrible people who had their birthday land on or near your character.
I like the opponent chooses your character with you deciding on 4 you wont play a little better.
What if your opponent picks someone you play/played before?
Same problem.
If your character falls on your birthday just move to the next appropriate birthday.
The whole point is to play a different character.
If your opponent is picking your character they'll pick someone they know how to fight anyway.
We're looking for some more randomness. To learn and see more characters amongst ourselves.
I guess the best way to do it is base it off faith and go on a straight "play a character(s) you don't play" tourney. That way I couldn't play Guile, Mak, or Dan and I'd also not play Blanka because I played him a bit in Vanilla.

True, I mean, that's what we were looking for with all these.
And if I can trust any board on faith systems its you PA gents.
So on the stream they kept saying around 37 different countries were at EVO.
Anyone know which?
I played a BEASTLY Sakura in pools. He had crazy link combos, hit confirmed into c.mk xx fierce shoryu every time, and he did his resets with walking cross unders instead of dashing ones. Her reset game is awesome when they can do that. I really only won because he dropped an ultra combo.. it came down to the point one combo would kill me, but one hit would kill him.. last round last game. Sakura is almost impossible to anti-air from the ground as Abel, and I finally went air-to-air with jump back short which is an awesome move for that purpose... SO INTENSE
Best part is, he actually mains Makoto but couldn't use her because of pad troubles. If his alt is this beast, I can only imagine his main.. his name is makotomuffins and he plays on PSN :winky: TMNTemps referral

Counterpicked with who?
Even random has an infinite on T Hawk.
Some sakura lost to Sabre's cody.

Honda. What's odd is that he was Balrog at first which seems just as fine a counterpick but meh... whatever.

It is amazing how easy it is to abuse his walldives and charge moves online. People just dont get simple counters.
(I know. This just in, people on XBL suck at fighters. !!!!)

no, tuesdays are events significant for everyone else, but not significant for him

Everywhere. If you're missing, you need to do the ultra faster. Like, the moment your backdash ends.
