Free anit-virus Software?

As the topic suggests, I am looking for free antivirus software. If there are no reliable ones out there, what is a good commercial one?

    AVG Free or Avast!, really.

    Avira Antivir is also supposedly effective - I used it for a while and it seemed OK; I don't get enough viruses to say if it really is effective but OTOH I didn't get infected while using it...
    In another thread someone recommended the free, AOL-branded, version of Kaspersky Antivirus called "Active Virus Shield".
