Late last night/early this morning there was a fire here that spread quickly due to high winds. It ended up taking out nearly an entire city block, leaving 30 people homeless and a few businesses destroyed. Here's some pics that yah won't really see elsewhere:

I have to be honest. The idea of my house burning down is one that has always made me nervous. This new apartment has a fire extinguisher and decent smoke detectors, and oh god, it made me feel so much better about stuff.

Do you have fire safety ladders? Better get fire safety ladders!

I've always wondered how much home and contents insurance costs.

Next to nothing if my current renter's insurance is any indication.

No lies. The people on the other side of my duplex just this afternoon put ashes in the trash can and it burned down a big hedge! The bush was all woooooosh!
Inform me of this. I've considered it. Do they have crazy physical requirements like having two eyes?
Every state more then likely has different rules/standards for whats needed to get onto the job. Check your states department of personnel website, there should likely be some info there stating requirements and the hiring process.
And yeah, we just completed our 3rd of 26 weeks of training for the EFD. Most places only have training run half as long, so don't let the idea scare you off.

Yeah, something I've noticed is a lot of sites are pretty damn hard to navigate. Or they have little information available.
On the other hand, training and physical activity isn't something that I'm adverse to.

though I'm kinda lazy so you only get 1.
I choose that one
there was a homeless dude who started a huge one on the mountain by where i lived in utah. it took out a few houses and put a lot on waning track before they could stop it.
i wish i had a camera there cause it was rad looking.
Nothings been said about the cause yet to my knowledge. The winds have been high here since last night however, which led to this fire spreading extremely rapidly.

Edit: my little apartment was threatened by this one thankfully, I live down the highway a bit.
I wish I had been out of the academy and on the job for this one though.

On second thought, I don't think I wanna work on the rescue squad. Engine or ladder for me.

Maybe if we are talking firemen from Farenheit 451
