I don't think it's a huge deal that the cracks disappear.
The moves themselves are so detailed and intricate, it would be difficult include instances where a skull that has already been cracked, gets punched again and cracked more or have the bone fragments rattle around a bit. And the X-ray itself is fairly brief, so in the middle of a fast paced fight, it wont be an issue.
The only time I think this will be a problem is if someone's liver comes back after having been frozen and shattered by Sub Zero.
My main problem is it completely destroys the realism of the game for me.
For a split second I was about to bite this, but then I realised you were probably kidding.

I was too grossed out by what I imagine to be broken cartlige flying out of the dude's nose to recognize the skull cracking issues.
Apropos of nothing, I really hope they bring Frost back.
actually I guess I see it now. it's just the big ones that stay, but not always the thinner ones.
is it only really noticeable on that particular xray?
Most of the other xrays that I've seen don't tend to have repeated blows to the same portion of anatomy, or at least not in a manner separated like this one. It's noticeable here because Kang's all "Boom! Headshot, then Boom! Headshot again". If the launching punch was an uppercut to the rib cage then Sub Zero came down into the face kick it'd be a lot less noticeable I think.
Still, I don't think this is going to ruin the game for me.
I just noticed that Sub Zero's breath comes out all frosty in that x-ray. That's pretty cool. Or I'm just tired after work and easily impressed.

From Kang's line, it does seem likely to be Cage. Also, the sunglasses. How many other characters have shades like that?
"This tournament is more then a chance for personal glory." Certainly seems like something the dedicated life long martial artist would say to some down on his luck actor looking to make a comeback.

Wow! Those oldschool MK1 Guardsmen are back.
For a second there I forgot half of what I knew about this game and thought they were an environmental hazard you could knock your opponent into, like the 3d games would've done.
It's gonna be weird when I get myself a PS3, just for this game.

I kinda like that second arena because A) It's entirely new and 2) reminds me of the first movie in a couple of ways.
I like Kano's knife-throw. IIRC he was the only playable in MK1 without a projectile attack.
Nope. He had a big, flashy, silvery knife throw in the original too. You could hardly tell it was a knife, but it was there.
Gotta say I'm digging all the little flourishes of personality they're giving the characters. For me, that adds to the experience quality of the game immeasurably.

I always just assumed that he throws some sort of short lightsabers, or maybe I'm thinking about MK3.

Looking at this makes me wonder what the hell every other 3D MK game was doing ...
This is Mortal Kombat. Finally.
Yeah, I get the same feeling looking at this game.
The characters, fast paced combat, x-ray moves and fatalities, Mortal Kombat 2 vibe . . . they are just doing everything so right with this one. About fucking time!

To be fair, I was almost as pumped for Deadly Alliance as I am for this one. Granted, MK4 did terrible terrible things to the series, so the follow-up was bound to look good, but for its time, DA did a lot of things very well, and managed to bring in a decent number of new ideas and characters that didn't jar too badly from what MK meant.
Deception was the letdown for me. Even with all the MORE added in, I couldn't help but notice there wasn't as much NEW in the game, and the death traps weren't handled particularly well. They could've expanded on the formats defined in DA, add in whole new things, but...no. Not really. Just a second course of the same recipe.
It remains to be seen how WB will handle Netherrealm after the first release, but I strongly suspect the good will they've shown so far should have no reason not to continue, going forward...
Deadly Alliance seemed to lack a lot of polish and creativity. (Tons of crappy/boring fatalties, and the movesets and new characters weren't that great.)
Deception improved on that a lot, IMO. It was basically Deadly Alliance done right.
Armageddon suffered from just having too many damn characters. I still think everyone should have gotten at least one signature fatality, but even that apparently would have been too much work.

I did enjoy the MK games I played on the PS2, but I remember thinking at the time that it looked more cartoony than MK should, especially with the big blobs of blood dribbling down the character models.
This just seems to have that darker, kind of oriental edge to it that MK2 definately had in spades, and what MK has been lacking ever since MK3 (in my opinion).
[EDIT] Infact I can remember the first time I ever saw MK3, it was on Gamesmaster on Channel 4, and someone pulled off Shang Tsung's spike fatality. And I remember seeing it and thinking "That looks ... really badly done"
I don't know if anyone has posted this, but Hastings is giving these shirts away as pre-order bonuses if you buy with them instead of going for one of the DLC packs the various other retailers are offering.

I think the first song is part of the official soundtrack ( it was in that Liu Kang video), but the second one is so boring that I hope it isn't used in the game.
"OK, back to work. Gotta go balance Onaga's parry move and BoRaiCho's friendship. So much to do !!!"
UGH! REALLY BOON!?!?!?
I don't care if Bo' Rai is in the game or not (well, that's a lie, I really really want him to be in) BUT I at least wouldn't be one of those dudes who through a huge bitch fit over it/refuse to buy the game. I would still hype the game, look forward to it, ect.
But this is fucking different. This is fucking trolling... screwing with my head! Getting my hopes up while somehow also crushing them.
On one hand this is the third time Boon hinted at Bo' Rai in his tweets. Friendships ARE most likely in the game (hinted at multiple and seemingly legit times), but I find it hard to believe Onaga is in the game.
Granted Bo' Rai has allot of haters, but he also has far more fans than Stryker/most of the post MK3 characters... so he's really fucking with those of us who want him in. DICK move Boon.
The man is a mad genius! ;-)
At least that Kano video is AWESOME! He's my go to character (after Bo' Rai and his students of course!)

Boon's been trolling pretty much since the original Mortal Kombat. It's just gotten worse with age. Ever see him in one of those online "Fight Night" chats after the release of a PS2-era game?

Dude, Boon is the original developer troll. Why do you think Friendships and Babalities even EXIST in the first place? Or why Rain originally existed? (He was seen for like a half-second in hte demo screen of the arcade UMK3, and wasn't actually in the game at all) I remember he would routinely show up in mIRC and just spout absolute nonsense.

Why would you have to balance a friendship...that kind of gives the post away.

I would guess because they're fun, funny, and unique ideas. Doesn't strike me so much as trolling as just have a good goofy time creating a game.
Yeah. Let's bring back the guy with the Fart Fatality. That'll really get this game back to its roots.
Ya, because the babalities and Jade hoppin around on a pogo stick are MUCH less goofy.
I got more laughs out of the first time I saw the fart fatality than any babality.
To each there own, but this idea that MK1-3 were somehow much darker and grittier than the following games irks me. The only MK game I can't remember anything off the wall ridiculous is the first one. I think nostalgia is screwin with people's heads.
Although, don't get me wrong, I can understand why people wouldn't want allot of over the top humor in the game, but humor has been extremely present in the series since its so called "roots".
ALTHOUGH, friendships/bablities were much more creative than a fartality.

Yeah...that's kind of my thing too.
MK has always been goofy past the first one.
The reason the 3D games are generally worse isn't because of comedy, it's because they're gimmicky and low-quality.
