Here's the extremely odd thing about the MK community.
The official MK forums are pretty damn friendly. Ya you got your self-entitled dicks, but for the most part everyone is actually quite cool and welcoming.
Then you got your fan MK forums (which tend to be as big, if not bigger then the official forum). The fan MK forums are NOT friendly. If you don't think MK1-3 were FANTASTIC or if you think MK4-Armageddon were good... you will get flamed.
However, even those forums aren't as crazy as some of the SF/MvC forums.

Dude, Boon is the original developer troll. Why do you think Friendships and Babalities even EXIST in the first place? Or why Rain originally existed? (He was seen for like a half-second in hte demo screen of the arcade UMK3, and wasn't actually in the game at all) I remember he would routinely show up in mIRC and just spout absolute nonsense.
I would guess because they're fun, funny, and unique ideas. Doesn't strike me so much as trolling as just have a good goofy time creating a game.
Sorry, I need to remember not everyone is a MK buff like I am.
Friendships and Babalities exist as a snarky reaction to all the critisism that the original Mortal Kombat got for being so violent (at the time at least.)
Rain, in the arcade version, DID NOT EXIST. He only showed up for a brief moment in the attract screen in the arcade version, and wasn't seen anywhere else: not as a playable character and not as a hidden fightable character. He literally only existed as a giant joke on players, who would keep pumping quarters into the game to try and find him. It wasn't until the home console version came out months later that they actually made him into a real character.

You know if MK9 does well and they decide to continue it, I hope they kind of tone down the new characters they introduce.
One of the main complaints I have about the later MKs is that the fatalities and moves started to run together after a while.

I don't know if that's awesome or terrible! Maybe a bit of both.

As far as I am concerned anyone can be in the game, just as long as they fit the themes we've already seen.
I don't really want any fart fatalities. Or kisses leading to bodies inflating and exploding, or anyone swallowing a bunch of thumtacks and spitting them out like a machine gun, with bulging cheeks or spout lips. I don't want anyone hopping around on a pogostick, I don't want anyone's head being inflated in a cartoony fasion, causing them to float into the air and explode off screen in a shower of bones that contain 5 legs and 8 arms. I don't want anyone using their body mass to belly flop onto someone, splattering them completely. Nobody should be spinning their heads around like helicopter blades and flying completely virtically up in the air and then somehow coming back down again to chop anyone into perfectly equal squares. Nobody should be taking their mask off to reveal a monster's face that scares their opponent so much that they die, and their ghost runs away.
I don't think I am asking too much.
I don't mind silly, campy humour but I think they should be kept in friendships as that's what they're for.
Aw, those Kabal fatalities were always some of my favorites.
Honestly, I'd rather MK kept that sense of "fuck it, it's a video game" camp, because the alternative is a game where you can kick someone so hard they puke on your leg trying to take itself seriously.

Ya... same here.
I love me some good gory ass kicking action, but MK9 is shaping up to be the goriest game I've ever seen... by a LONG SHOT. I need that to be balanced out by some good wacky humor and I think it should be. Not a ton of humor mind you, but enough to lighten the mood.
I don't want this to be a gore porno like Saw, I don't want it "to take itsself seriously."
Shaolin Monks was the PERFECT combination of humor and bloody action. It told a fun but serious story, but there were a good amount of LOL moments throughout the game. To me that's what MK has always been.
Side note- Christ this game's soundtrack is shaping up to suck! Every piece of the OST I hear is bland as hell or annoying as fuck. Which is frustrating, cause the Mortal Kombat I have on my cellphone has an awesome soundtrack...

This.
It got a little perfunctory at times. I wonder if motion-capture and being able to hot-swap movesets to different character models bit them in the ass a little. I mean, if you couldn't do that, would you want to try to make the same damn thing from scratch each time, or always try to make something different so it wouldn't be such a drag to do?

Yeah, some of the fatalities did feel kind of lazy...
All the fatalities in MK3 felt lazy too. It was as if they did all of the photography needed for the movements, all the fighting moves and the reaction moves but totally forgot to photograph any fatalities. So the result was characters frozen in the "Dazed" sprite, just digitially stretched, cut up or exploded. It was lame as hell.
[EDIT] I hate to keep bringing it up, but I was so godamn disappointed with MK3 .....
And animations definately got re-used in the 3D MKs.
So I've been lately getting all my fighting games/multiplayer-focused games on the 360, as most of PA tends to play there.
But with this one, I'm thinking of going PS3, both for the exclusive character (of which 360 still has yet to confirm, and/or probably doesn't have one) along with using the d-pad on either the PS3 controller of the wireless Madcatz one I also own.
MK always seems to work better with a D-pad, due to the specific input commands that are less DF, more BF.
I'm curious if most of PA is having that same mindset.

Even if I did - friends lists, also have the Madcatz SSF pad for 360, preference for Achievements, usual etceteras.
Sure would be nice to hear of some kinda 360-based inkentive though, would have thought a Kratos-style kharakter for the Kbok would have been announked by now...

So...what's the general opinion on the fan-made fatalities?
You know.
Some inventive souls out there with youtube and a sprite library, diligently making the ultimate Johnny Cage fatality where he punches the head high into the air, rips off the toso, and then kicks the head offscreen as it descends. Usually with the MK2 sprites, of course.
When the last Liu Kang vid came out, I stumbled into a series of fan fatalities for MK9. A game that is not even out yet. He'd somehow gained assets or reverse-engineered his own. It looked like a lot of work, I mean, a lot, but you could still tell it was the work of probably one guy. But why? Is it some way of
'playing' the game ahead of time? Or making your own Mortal Kombat, the way it should be (in your opinion, of course), at least in a youtube video for the world to see?

I gotta say, personally speaking, this PiranhaSoldier person really has the right idea when it comes to the blood. Just check out that spray in his Dragon morph. This is what I want.
i know we are dealing with all sorts of ridiculous premises, but the way that fatality blatantly taunts the laws of physics irks the living shit out of me.

Babalities and animalities took it too far
Again, MK2 was pretty much perfect in its balance

The games/movies/whatever the fuck that bought them into the series are the best...everything afterwards is just raping the franchise they love.
That being said...I mean 4-Armageddon were pretty meh.
