Also, don't forget kids, if Steam won't let you download those shiny new programs you just purchased, just go to
Steam > Settings > Downloads > Download Region > [Choose a new region]
Click ok, and Steam will restart. Usually try to pick something outside of the US, but where you'll still get a pretty good connection (I'm on the West Coast, so Japan gives me a solid 500kbps+)
Seems a little weird downloading a Russian game from a Japanese server though :P

Trine is definitely worth $4. Unless you are completely destitute and wondering where your next meal is coming from, grab that bad boy and bask in it's beautiful, dream-like [physics-based] embrace.
This 'The Guild' game keeps sounding more interesting the more ya'll talk about it. I see on a brief overview that you can be thief or robber (2 different jobs apparently) as well as money lender, which I imagine would be a fun empire to exploit
So who all picked up Killing Floor and is their a PA group for it?
I had Killing Floor since last year when my friend gifted it to me for the holidays. I still haven't actually played it (some rounds of the UT2K4 mod version aside).
There was an ancient-ass thread for it though.

Join the PA CSS group if you're interested in playing with PAers, 12 of us were playing today (10 at the same time in the same server!)
If it's your first one, go with World in Conflict. It's almost half action game, it's a great way to ease into the genre
Cool, thanks. Downloading the demo now.
World In Conflict ruined Company of Heroes for me. I went in expecting them to be more similar I guess, and while Company of Heroes was fun, World In Conflict was just so much funner. Maybe it was the awesome artillery and faster pace, I dunno. Loved WH40k DoW2 though.
Got around to trying Deus Ex, whoever posted that list of helpful hints thank you. Not going in the first level guns blazing and trying to be stealthy with the generally dumb ai has made the first level much more fun than I remembered so far.
As for Prey, it was one of the first games I bought in a steam sale, I played it and enjoyed it. Not amazing by any stretch, but a fun shooter with an interesting death mechanic, some cool Descent-style ship sections and cool settings. At least play the opening scene, which is pretty damn awesome.
I still hold that World in Conflict has some of the best presentation of any game ever. It's so pretty and slick.
It looks, and plays, beautifully.
Unfortunately, the online community is full of hateful people who are full of hate. But the single player alone is worth the purchase. I still managed to wring a lot of fun out of the online, as well...you just have to learn to roll with the punches, and ignore bitter eastern European people.
Oh, and for your next RTS I recommend either Homeworld 2 or Warcarft 3. Probably the former. It's fantastic, and for "easing into the genre" it's great because you can pause. It's a good way to keep it low key, while adding the whole "ZOMG RESOURCE GATHERING" aspect that World in Conflict (again, brilliantly) lacks.
That, and it's another beautifully presented game.

The first half hour of Prey (as in, the part that constitutes the free demo) is awesome. I dare you to find a better use of Don't Fear The Reaper in a video game.
The other 6 hours of it aren't really worth playing.

This is a game that deserves a sequel.
EDIT: Alec, not Adam, silly.
This is why I hope a lot of people buy WiC during the sale so we can get some games going. I want to play with nice people, or at least dicks that I sort of know

That makes two of then, then.
The in-game cinematics were far prettier and well-choreographed than a strategy game ever needs it to be.
Haha, it took me a few listens for me to get that Adam Baldwin was narrating the loading screens. I didn't believe it.

The cinematic for the New York mission is just so fucking awesome. I love it.
Is it true the disc versions can't play with the steam versions? Because I only have disc, and if so, that is really laaaaaaaaame Edit: Could've sworn we had a smiley for that other than :?
Also, choppers are lame (unless they tuned them down a little) I mean really, "oh look ground based AA vehicles! Eat a hellfire ahahahahaha". The MLRS heavy arty is the best. And infantry are fun, until your forest gets napalmed, bioweaponed, or daisy cuttered, or your building gets bunker buster'd.
I mean, I already have MW2, but having MW1 with dedicated server support, and World At War with Nazi Zombies........Wait, wasn't there a Star Wars mod for MW1?
Any of you guys tried Lead and Gold? Looks neat but I've heard it had issues early on. Worth it now with the sale?
I was trying to resist Dark Void Zero because of the DRM but at $3 and the fact that there is a way to revoke (launch options type /revoke) I had to bite. Its a really great NES style title and its actually pretty hard.
What games come with the Star Wars game pack? I thought I read something about one...

I'm very curious just what ya'll and this quote from the steampage mean
Attain full command of four different roles — Air, Armor, Infantry & Support — in the ultimate online team-based multiplayer.
There are four roles, as it says. When you pick a role, you get access to that role's special units (Heavy Tanks in Armor, for instance) and all of their units cheaper.
You can still buy units of other roles, but they are more expensive and you don't have access to all of them.

Seriously, thanks for posting this stuff for me today. Work is soooo slow today. I actually managed to run out of things to do when not busy. My boss for the day is just browsing her laptop and I am browsing the PA forums.

Games like HoI3 and EU3 always interest me but in the end I'm just too scared to press the buy button. Looks so fucking complicated
They're actually a lot less complicated than they seem. Even when I was first getting into them, I was surprised by how much simpler they were than I expected. And with a bunch of fellow pa'ers, who could help and team up with you, it would be even easier.
RE Guild II, its a sim. Basically. Family, Political, and Business. You go through the game managing your business, your place in 1400era society, your relationship with the other Dynasties in town, while making plays at the various political positions that are available.
You start out as a single guy with whatever skills and profession you've chosen, and go from there. Its really quite cool. Hard to describe, too :P Some high points I remember from the first one, carefully choosing what toys to give to my child, shaping the skillbonuses he receives. Ditto with his education, I want him to have the necessary skills (though, I'm not seeing the trade-specific skills yet in 2, so thats kinda nice) to take over my business(es), while also starting him on another path, allowing me to (once I die and take control of him) branch out, monopolizing everything in town.
Say you are a blacksmith. Not happy with the prices you have to pay for resources at the market? Take a longer cart trip and risk robbery for cheaper prices at the mine. Not good enough? Buy out the mine and lower the prices. But then, how will you get your investment back? Hard to say, the mine isn't hauling it in, and the prices of goods derived from resources sold at the mine has fallen as a consequence.
Trying to get into an office at town hall, but the people voting don't particularly like you? Hire some spies to keep tabs on them, maybe they will do something you can blackmail them will. Or take that evidence and turn them into the authorities. Of course, maybe the judge loves that guy. Well, time to bribe or blackmail him! Anyway, you don't find any dirt to blackmail the people who could vote you into office. Bribe them! Or intimidate them!
So, you got into office (it can be a real bitch), congrats. Any privileges? Of course! They vary by position, and get better the higher up the foodchain you are. Are you the treasurer? Then embezzle some gold. Or muddle with the tax rates. Dungeon master? Haul a rival off to the town dungeons. Mayor? You're more or less immune to political skulduggery! And can embezzle. Town priest? Excommunicate some guy. Town clerk? Change some laws! Deny a rival their application for higher title.
You've found your love! Courted her, and are now betrothed. Unfortunately, the two of you are good catholics and have created several children. Look through their born in stats, choose which one to mentor and send to the best schools. After all, you don't have the funds to send them all to university. Or maybe you do, but you can only posses one child to continue playing, and you don't want the siblings to compete against, those rival dynasties are enough! (Once, later in a game, my sister got to be mayor, and had it out for me. That was a real pain in the ass)
You're getting old and frail, your chosen son has returned from trade school. He is ready to take over. But, you have the opportunity to send him to university or more trade school. Can you live long enough to see his return, will you die when he is unavailable off in school, and be forced to pick a less groomed child? Maybe you miscalculated, and you won't make it. Time to head off to the neighborhood potion shop (maybe you own and/or run it!) and find someone willing to brew you up a faust's elixir to extend your life just long enough, at some dear cost both monetarily and to your soul/relations.
Also, hope you upgraded your house to have that wine cellar, in which you can stash gold to avoid inheritance tax. Though, because you spent so much on the wine cellar you decided against a water barrel for one of your smithies, or masonry shops, or any of the number of buildings you can build. The town has fallen on hard times, or the Town (I forget the name of the position) overseer has been skimping, and hasn't built as many wells as necessary. So, one of your rivals takes the chance to start a fire at your shop! Due to those unfortunate coincidences, your shop burns to the ground. With the goods and materials inside , maybe even a worker or two.
Now playing the son, you make it your first obligation to head to the smithy and grab a fresh forged sword, maybe hire a henchman or two. Then, using the spyglass in your study, you determine which rival is the arson. Time to challenge him to a duel! Once he is pushing up daisies, time to move in on his empire! Court and marry his widow, or buy their former mansion and throw her out into the street.
..Wow that is a lot of stuff. Anyway, it is a pretty awesome game. From the looks of it so far, 2 has been pared down or streamlined a bit. Not sure how I feel about that yet.
God damn. This is why I hate not playing every game ever. Because that sounds fucking incredible, and I had no idea it even existed. You just sold me a copy.

Hey now, I didn't play CS up until fairly recently (about the time Orange box came out, I think)
As for what CS is compared to CoD, its the Search and Destroy gametype, basically.
