I say Max Payne 1 is still pretty fun to this day. I played it a little back when it first came out, and I grabbed MP 1+2 earlier in the year during some other Steam sale. I haven't gotten around to MP2 (Fallout 3, WoW, and Mount&Blade kept keeping me occupied), but the first Max Payne is still fun, even if it shows its age.

Max Payne 2 holds up exceedingly well. The first one, not so much. It's not that bad in the first half, but in the latter half everything two shots you, and the final level is so goddamn awful.
If you play them back to back the second game will seem like a HUGE improvement.

All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.
Well for $5 I took the chance on a good mindless shooter. Sometimes I just want to shoot things. Done and Done.
Edit:
I think all old games show flaws in their game play, because newer games have improved on them. This def. goes for Max Payne. When I first played through it, I never noticed how awful some of the game play is, but on a second play through I did. I also recommend using God Mode or some such to enjoy shooting things and getting the awesome story if you find yourself frustrated by and game play.

I think it is interesting that I could either take my wife out for dinner tonight, eat some steak, have some wine, share a desert, and maybe even rent a movie...
Or I could buy every one of the games on sale today. It would be cheaper...
I think Half-Life actually still holds up very well. Not a lot of games really used its style of gameplay, not even HL2 really captured the feeling of the first one.
Ah, never mind, I just went with the Max Payne bundle for the price of a draft beer. I've never played them, and I think I'll enjoy them thoroughly.

Speaking of holding up.. Man, what the hell is up with Alien vs. Predator 2000? The menus don't have mouse support and there is absolutely no direction or map.. I got totally confused at what the heck I was supposed to be doing when I hit the alien campaign button.
I spent $4 on a beer last night and I was thinking about what I could have got on Steam instead.
Ghostbusters was $4... It's actually kinda fun, although it has extremely long load times, and the controls are abysmal. I half wonder if the difficulty is due to the controls or the game itself.
I'm liking the guild II so far, though I haven't gotten in very deep. The presentation is nice, has a very 'Fable 1' look to it. I really like that pretty much anything in the interface can be right clicked to give you a tooltip saying wtf some of this stuff does.
Only complaint I have so far is some wonky animation, though more expensive games have done much worse
I wish Steam had an option to enable torrents to download games. It seems perfect for the times when there are tons of people on and downloading shit. Instead of clogging everything up, it would make everything better!
Damn, so that's three surprise price increases so far. I don't think I'm going to hold out for the last day anymore. This might have been Valve's intent all along.

You remember how Valve staffs an experimental psychologist now?

Yeah.
That actually makes a lot of sense.

Yeah.
Not so much experimental as much as, "I wonder what would happen if I jam an electrode here"
*Patients buy train sim and $200 of DLC
"and here"
*Pre-orders Two worlds and plays it on launch day.

Wait, they actually do? I thought it was just a joke.

The ragdoll physics really take the awesomeness to a whole 'nother level.
That first kill in the hospital where the guy falls backwards into the shelf blew my mind when I first saw it.

edit: as should be implied, he and/or I will pay the gifter for it.
Not to mention it and the first have some decent mods.

This is not my experience at all!
They are probably 2 of the best games to slap your own action music on, turn on god mode and infinite bullet time and just go nuts.
50% of this problem is now solved.
Still need to finish Episode 2 before I play it, though. Bass-ackwards as that sounds.

Alien World isn't as good as the rest of the game
But over all still a top notch game. Now if http://www.blackmesasource.com/ ever gets released, we'll be golden!

the tutorial and voice acting are quite good too
Anyone know if the 30 days for eve is from when you buy it, or when you create an account?
this holiday sale seems poorly organized compared to winter's sale.
And it's not even a holiday sale. It's just a "how much can we make people spend on Steam" sale as far as I can tell.
Also, anyone who's tempted by the thought of the Civ IV bundle better hop on it now in case it goes up in price.

"I'D BETTER HURRY UP AND BUY IT BEFORE THE PRICES GOES UP, HOLY FUCK"
Yeah.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
First was the Defense Grid DLC being %50 off, which was removed during the first day.
That actually makes a lot of sense.

Because I would have.
Totally.
