Hmmm EVE seems interesting. Its only 1.99... plus the descriptions says you can use in game earned currency to pay for game time. What's the catch?

HL1 remakes have been in development by various groups ever since the source engine came out. None will ever be finished. You might as well get it now.

The sad part is that they actually have a decent chunk finished, but they don't want to release it until it's complete.

The catch is that it takes hours of boring work to make enough much money in-game to buy a timecard, but once you figure it out I hear it's not too bad.

That EVE requires a LOT of time investment to be fun (yes I know all about how alliances can use new guys as tacklers and what not but the point remains).

I have tons of EVE cash, enough for years of game time (won a few of the lottery draws in my time playing) as well as a kitted out dude with 50 million+ SP and I still can't bring myself to activate or play it because you have to wade through large amounts of dull nothing to get to anything remotely fun and then you only get real fun in short intense bursts.

That said there are people for whom EVE is the perfect game, I enjoyed my time playing it, met some awesome people (attending the BoB barbaque remains a fond memory for me, as do alliance warfare in 0.0) but you really have to be a very specific kind of person to really get a lot out of EVE.

At that price, try it but yeah don't get your hopes up, it isn't remotely for everyone.

My favorite part was the alliance warfare metagame but as I learned that I didn't need to play to follow that my interest in actual gameplay fizzled out.

He means that he has discs for the original version of the game, so if he wants to install it, he has to install the game, then install the patches (which he needs to store somewhere) -- whereas with steam, he would just have to click install then everything gets worked out.

I've noticed that the 'Platinum' Enhanced Edition they're offering now is probably the best way to get The Witcher - it's heavily discounted in places, is patched to the latest version out of the box, obviously has hard copies of all the supplemental stuff and has the crucial difference from the Steam version in allowing multiple languages - so you can switch from Polish to English on the fly, for example. And of course is completely DRM-free, unlike the Steam version - unlimited installs, don't need the disk, and isn't tied to any account.

Well, BC2 was discounted the previous week in what I believe was EA's attempt to say "fuck you" to this sale.

Not extremely successful, at least for me.

Now Vampire, that's a game that hasn't been discounted since the beginning of time itself. I would get it for like $7.50 tops.

So I think I don't understand how expansions work. I bought the Civilization IV complete pack, so does that mean that I can just open up the main game after everything is installed (still waiting on Beyond the Sword) and have everything there in one nice, neat package, or do I have to take some other steps? Thanks!

I can't purchase anything on my debit card from anywhere. Everything I've bought since the Steam sale started is listed as pending on my checking account, and anything I've tried to use my debit card for since yesterday has been declined. I'm going to check with my bank tomorrow because I don't know if there's actually an issue with my account or if Steam just isn't processing any of those transactions and my card is suspended as a result.

You're going to want to play by clicking on Beyond the Sword. That one will have everything from the main game and Warlords in one neat package, as it was the last expansion. I've even since deleted Civ 4 and it still has everything in BtS.

Or Star Wolves 3, I guess.

I asked this, and so did another guy. Apparently nobody's played them? They sound like my cup of tea, but it looks like they have the potential to be not so good.
Late as all fuck because I just saw that Star Wolves is on sale and'm curious about them myself, but yeah, Space Rangers is one of those games with a neat premise and some reasonable base mechanics thats bogged down by a couple of stupid things that, if fixed, would really hike them up several entries on my list of favorite small dev games: stuff like the mission generator system eventually crapping out and leaving you with nothing to do, combat being nigh-unresolveable because every fucking non-Dominator ship will just head for the nearest planet, land and repair, and then come right back at you with full armor and shit, and late game spiriling into a nonstop ratrace to keep up enough funds to maintain your equipment since the prices increase like 100-fold from the beginning of the game.

I'll probably wind up taking the plunge on Star Wolves 2 or 3 depending on what I read about them though, I'll report back on it in a while.
